The first Inside Out was fine, not the best of Pixar films, but also not the worst. Since it’s about growing up, obviously there’s easy sequel material, needed or not. Im actually shocked it didn’t get Disney’s normal social messaging (I was fully expecting Riley to get a girlfriend - at minimum - in this). Weird that a movie not sexualizing a teen protagonist or making some LGBTQ+ statement feels like a win in this day and age.

the "moral" of the story is that you should avoid "ignoring things you don't like", and embrace yourself, for all of who you are. you are not a good person, if you just choose to forget all the bad things you did. you are not a subset of what you have done, you are everything, put together (for better or worse).

I get that hockey practice is low stakes, but I’d say that’s part of what made Anxiety such a great antagonist. She’s blowing every little thing out of proportion because that’s what anxiety does to you. When it takes control, it makes everything bigger and more significant than it actually is. Whether or not Riley makes a hockey team at a specific time isn’t a big deal, but anxiety makes life feel like a set of dominoes where the slightest error ruins everything. And by feeling it so strongly…….it becomes real to her, hence the panic attack.

I grew up on Disney, both live action and animated. I used to watch The Wonderful World of Disney every Sunday night. The issue is they just stopped making good films. They focused on inclusion. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m a black man I never saw any characters that “looked like me” in the old days. Did they need to have more inclusion? Sure but they don’t have to force it. I wasn’t the market for The Little Mermaid but even I know that they shouldn’t have made Ariel black! They should have made a new mermaid and left Ariel be. I haven’t given up yet but I don’t think they can survive without doing things better.

I do think Disney and Pixar (among others) could benefit from knowing when to leave good things be. It's sad that we've gotten to the point where I see something of genuine quality and often actually dread the idea of it becoming a franchise. If there's one film I STRONGLY wish had been left alone, it's The Incredibles. Leaving the future of that universe up to the imagination, in my opinion, was better than any story Pixar could follow up with (in video games or movies). Obviously, nothing can take away the first film. But, like it or not, the existence of subsequent media does affect a property's pop cultural identity in ways that can't be taken back. The moment you add to the original, you inevitably change at least some people's relationship with it. There's no escaping that, especially when it's a new canonical work. The original may remain beloved and additional media can be written off. But whatever effect it had (however brief & remote) is forever a part of that series' history even if you de-canonize it later. Even if Incredibles 2 had top tier talent at the helm (It didn't), I just fundamentally didn't see any benefit from a creative POV to continuing that mythology. I get that businesses want to make money. I also understand that a lot of people loved the 2004 original and desired for years to see more of those characters. It's human nature. I've never claimed to be above that and would NEVER shame someone for resonating with something. It should go without saying that fans are allowed to like the sequel. But society could benefit from learning that sometimes, the best way to show appreciation for something we love is knowing when to let it go out on top. Believing there's a point to continuing a story and having a plan for it is one thing. But literally everything about Incredibles 2 (plot, characters, themes, etc.) felt redundant to me and ultimately left an inferior impact. Sometimes, a cliffhanger ending is okay. Not every IP needs to answer everything before saying farewell.
@Rotom0479

But if there's potential for a sequel, they'd be a fool not to capitalize on it. (Provided the sequel is good, of course.)
@Justmyhandle
@Justmyhandle 21 күн бұрын
@@Rotom0479 If the idea is of high enough quality to be worth doing and benefits the property creatively, then sure. But in my anecdotal experience, that's proving to be the case more and more rarely. And Incredibles 2 was in NO way worth doing in my opinion. Again, people are free to like it. I won't insult someone for enjoying it. But everything about that particular sequel struck me as either being an inferior/blatant rehash of the original or an inferior/frustrating attempt to be as impacting while trying to establish itself on its own merits. The only redeeming credit I can give it is, the animation was beautiful and displayed the technological leap from 2004-2018. But that's expected. That's nothing special. I won't praise a sequel simply for doing the bare minimum that literally anyone with common sense would anticipate. People talked for years about ideas for where The Incredibles' story beyond the first film could go, and I never found any of them compelling or creative enough to put money into. I think one of media's biggest problems today is, we're so spoiled with more content than we could ever hope to watch in one lifetime. We're used to getting more of pretty much everything, especially when it's profitable. Hence, our society is losing the value of respecting when to let a quality story end. To me, THAT is more foolish because it's not a creatively or economically sustainable pattern in the long run. It will inevitably lead to more harm than good.

Incredibles 2 could have benefited from Inside Out 2's approach. Set it in the future, make it roughly similar stakes, and just let it simmer. Sadly, feminist deconstruction prevailed.
@Justmyhandle
@Justmyhandle 7 күн бұрын
@@fictiontheorizer4253 Absolutely, it could have gone that direction. The difference is, there was a benefit and long term purpose to furthering Inside Out's story about Riley's life as it entered new stages. The dynamic is different. Their structural templates as stories are different. I just never saw the point of that with The Incredibles. Countles successful stories have potential for quality continuations. Ex- People have spent decades begging for a Shaun of the Dead sequel. Almost any successful IP can become a quality franchise with proper execution + talent. But the reality many people are resistant to accept is that not every universe NEEDS to continue or benefits from continuing in the long run. Just because one can doesn't always mean one should. I'm not arrogant enough to believe there were literally no quality ideas for an Incredibles sequel out there just because I never saw, heard, or read any in my anecdotal experience. It's definitely possible. But there needs to be more to it than that for me. If you enter any project on continuing/expanding an existing mythos and can't give a compelling answer right off the bat to the question "Why does this story NEED to continue, beyond the incentives of money or fan demand?", that in itself should be telling. And I haven't heard any substantive justification for why The Incredibles needed more. However good of an idea its sequel may have had to run with, I still think it would have been better off just letting that first film be a well-done standalone story. Its ending was close enough to a perfect "one and done" wrap-up.

Did you forget the fact Riley was on the brink of losing her friends? That can leave an emotionally devastating hole in one's psyche, fundamentally altering who they see themselves as, especially in one's early teen years. I'd say that raises the stakes a bit. Also, when you think about what Riley was doing during the climax of each film, the first one had her getting on a bus, whereas the second saw her experiencing a full blown anxiety attack. The reason for her actions in the first may have been more extreme, but the sequel's visual intensity showcased both inside and out (heh) made for a far more emotionally resonant climax overall. I never had to move far away from home, but I know all too well what it's like to have a panic attack, and they hit it dead-on! It's a relatable situation that's more likely to affect more people. So, I'm going to have to disagree with you, man. Inside Out was excellent, but the sequel, in my honest opinion, outdid it in a lot of different ways.

Saw this one last night. Yes the plot was very similar to the original. But overall I found it a cute movie and a fun time. No woke messaging whatsoever.

I've seen the good reviews, but this summarizes exactly why I don't want to see it. I liked the first movie, but it didn't need a sequel because any sequel is just going to repeat the first one.

So Disney had to start make money somehow . This is a big win for normality ,This is a family movie about a young girl reaching puberty. This movie is not woke . So what it had a couple of woke elements like a girl wearing a rainbow sweater. The main character also had two sets of black and asian check mark friends . What it did not have is child grooming . When the main character reached puberty , she did not wont to change her pronouns; she did not all -over- a- sudden have feelings for the same sex ; she did not run to her parents saying that she wants to transition into a dude ; also no gays swapping spit . This is the second of two movies in a row without the woke agenda. The first was " Bad boys" , a movie that was just an old fashioned action movie with two straight black men full of testosterone , what Hollywood hates , and calls it toxic Masculinity. So the Anti -Woke -crowd won two big battles but not the war , Plus the media can now stop lieing about movies bombing because of streaming ; the strikes; movie tickets ; the price of Popcorn ; covid ; or the weather . if Hollywood puts out movies with a decent story and no wierdo agenda .... " If they dont Go Woke then they wont Go Broke

I liked it man. As a brown person that grew up playing hockey the only thing i didnt like was the forced diversity hockey team. I played for 15 years and only met one other brown person and he was adopted by two white people. But other than that it was even better than the first one.

Pixar is a "brain off" movie. They do need a decent story but the majority of the time is waiting for the characters to be funny. The story can't really be more mature than the target audience.

Bro was js shirt talking the movie. I feel like everyone is glazing the first inside out too much. The only sad thing that happened was bingbong. And Riley running away in the first movie was unrealistic and weird

@@redram6080so it’s similar but not the same? What? My head hurts. I’ve heard someone say it’s the same but it does enough to not be identical and I’ve seen some people say it’s exactly the same as the first one. I really don’t know if I should watch the sequel then.
