Most people either do not understand the power of compound interest, or are just impatient. For the average Joe, however. I think it is just best to invest in the S&P 500, and just wait, which is reliable, albeit extremely long-lots of years. Or just use a professional analyst and speed up wealth creation. Most people underestimate the power of the latter

Correction, the RR on show is the Phantom Coupe, not the Drophead. Plus that wasn't his car it was commissioned for his film Johnny English (x2 identical cars) Rowan Atkinson did have a Phantom Coupe in his own colour Black Adder Blue.

His first Mercedes 500E may have been a very expensive car when new, and when he sold it, but he bought it lightly used for around £12K! In the early nineties it was under-appreciated, also car insurance rocketed and left hand drive cars depreciate badly in the UK.

He didn't lose money on an investment, he spent money on a hobby. This is what's wrong with the car hobby right now. Too many people think they deserve to make money just by touching a car & don't really care about the car, the history, or the mechanics. I do not want to be a gatekeeper, but that is exactly what these money enthusiasts are to the hobby. Value are getting inflated to beyond what real car enthusiasts can afford.

You are so right, and now at a time when I can afford to buy and drive some wonderful cars, speculators have pushed prices up to the point where I’m no longer even interested in trying to own and enjoy. Such a shame but sadly those who ‘are’ prepared to add their name to the log book are simply pushing them out of reach … I’ve also observed a number of cars popping up regularly on auction sites seemingly with no mileage or maintenance changes …

@paulfinch5417 The "delivery miles" cars make my skin crawl. The first of the Ford GT's that came to the market after the contracted waiting period were pretty frustrating. Ford claimed that they wanted the cars to end up in the hands of true Ford Fans and High Performance car enthusiasts, and not "flippers". That all became a very apparent marketing ploy right off the bat. For one, old school, true Blue (oval) Ford customers were getting denied because they didn't have "a strong enough online or public presence" yet KZfaq'rs that had never said a good word about Ford, ever were getting invited to "apply". Then, after the year, those Luxury Enthusiasts ... I mean, "car enthusiasts" were pumping them into auction as fast as they could with "delivery miles" all Ford sitting there doing nothing at minimum.
