This guest is awesome. We need more people who are faithful Catholics in Academia. So many Catholics think that social teaching means the woke social Justice activism. In the secular world it is VERY difficult to be a Catholic and be in the workplace. Thanks for this episode it gives me hope.

When I was at the Vatican I approach a Swiss guard to see if I can take picture with him, he held his hand up to tell me stop then pointed at a kid, then he let the kid take a picture with him.

I read Andreas' book a couple of years ago, and it made a huge impact on me. But hearing him speak about Pope John Paul II is amazing!

Thank you for your show, I wish you had actually divided this episode into two as I noticed that both topics merit their own time. For instance, what sort of spiritual formation the Swiss Guard do receive? Do they have certain code of conduct when off duty as any public servant should? Swiss guards are required to receive any continued intellectual progress? Where do they lodge, train, etc?

I watched a few of the more recent episodes, then started at the beginning and have watched every episode to this point over the recent weeks. This is the most interesting, the most motivating, the most spiritual one that I have watched to this point. I LOVE this episode! What an interesting man, and how beautifully he conveys the essence of St. John Paul II. This is an episode that I will revisit.

At one point in history, the swiss pikemen were the most feared infantry on earth. Extra long spears, tightly packed, like trying to charge a giant metal porcupine. Or even worse, having them charge you. It was the perfect counter to many richer surrounding kingdoms who employed massive amounts of cavalry. So alot like he said, if you're a pope looking for the baddest men around to guard you, you look for the guys that have repelled numerous invasions. As for the business stuff, all thats over my head. All I know is that going either pure capitalist or pure communist is going to lead to abuse and death. Power corrupts, and that's why nobody can be allowed to have too much of it. Anyway, good talk. Seems like a cool guy👍

Free market is not the least worst economic system, it is the most natural and the best. The only thing the government needs to do is to prevent a monopoly of goods or services. That is it. Simply loved the interview. So cool when Mr Widmer described his exchanges with St John Paul II. The story of the sergeant nicknamed "Christmas Tree" because of all the medals was great too.

This is what we Catholics Worldwide are horrified by, not just US "RadTrads" pushing back against their mainly compromised USCCB. This from a staunch erstwhile francis supporter.
