It was always known dragons could be killed (Meraxes and Dorne) Moreover Meleys was killed by Vhagar not by some mere human. Storming of dragonpit was due to KL folk being fed up with the war’s effect on them which resulted with them believing in the Shepherd’s BS tales. Knowing dragons are chained and more vulnerable gave them courage as well. The show tries to give reasonings but they are not doing it well, Meleys being beloved when she belowed up the pit and killed many doesnt make sense.

@@bade1398 Yeah, Meleys being beloved does make fully sense, but the reaction of the folks still makes sense to me. Before it was a disagreement between the Targaryens, which seemed to escalate, but now it`s realy a war of dragons and the sense of safety they had is completely gone. And the believe of dragons as gods makes sense to for me. They had peace for a very long time and most of them got no education and are religious. Why wouldn`t they feel that way?

The parallels of Daemon and Aemond ruling with their coldness to the common people. Love it. It’s the exact characters you want to see get fucked up by the power of the people. Viserys made many mistakes. but one thing he got 101% correct imo is that Daemon (and people like Daemon like Aemond) on or near the power of the throne are a disaster waiting to happen for the kingdom. And we're beginning to see glimpses of that this episode.
@uriu3193
@uriu3193 8 күн бұрын
Daemon is a fucking asshole and and someone I definitely never ever want to go be lording ever me (but again I don't think anyone wants any other person to order them around). But he should have been around the throne, and Vis should have listened to Daemon. Cuz even though he is a mostly heartless more than a bit sadistic and psychotic bitch, he is loyal to his family and that Targ name and legacy, and I do think that he loves, probably, some people, very selectively, or at the very least, he is loyal to his House. And if Otto was removed as Daemon suggested (he might have removed Otto permanently himself if dude wasn't tha Hand, i think) none of this, almost none anyway, would have quite happened. So, he's kinda effective, but definitely needs someone with a much better moral compass and responsibility to have power over him, kinda like a wild pet, tbh.

Im sensing a little lack of subtlety lately, clearly one of the themes of the show is women’s relation to power in a patriarchy, but when a character actually says “BUT YOU ARE A WOMAN” it really goes into that heavy handed “telling, not showing” territoy, specially when the female characters are not given meaningful actions to illustrate why they would actually be fit to rule. I also sense a difference between this and george rr martin’s approach to writing female characters in the sense that his female characters are allowed to be flawed, have desires, ambitions, anger, and negative traits that ultimately makes them humans, while in the show the women feel softened and/or misunderstood, and none are actually evil or bad, which feels ironically sexist and demeaning… I do love the show though, but i feel the first season had a sophistication that is yet to be recaptured.
@simonbouhadana6333
@simonbouhadana6333 Ай бұрын
Agreed! The show is hammering the concept that woman are disadvantaged and are misunderstood too hard that at times it feels like that is its main focus. Not the throne and the power it wields. Ambitious woman exist and they can be prone to violent path as well. I dislike the constant push of Alicent. Otto should be present at kings landing assisting with the war council. He was essentially put aside and replaced with Alicent when he was the mastermind of the war. Alicent is not the queen, yet she sits in the council and demands to be named regent. Its laughable. She knows nothing of war.

I love it. GRRM works are great because of how grounded they are in real historical politics and all that...but its still a fantasy world. GoT's beyond the wall/whitewalker storyline complemented the more immediate and realistic stuff nicely. HotD is very politic heavy and without moments like this its just throne room drama with dragons who are essentially just military props.

Cole parading Meleys' head through Kings Landing is truly the start of the end of the Targaryen reign. He showed the smallfolk that the Targaryen's are not all-powerful, that they can be defeated, in a way that only Dorne had previously known in Westeros. As they continue to lose dragons throughout this period, the Targaryen's will never be as powerful in Westeros as they were before this moment.

My biggest complaint with this season is them fucking with aemond and daemons characters. Aemond was not some shady fuck trying to steal his brother throne he was solid in that way. His downfall is being too young and headstrong believing too much in his and vaegar strength over anything else. Daemon also is solid in that regard. I don't think the writers fully grasp Daemons character. They treat him like he's some two faced power hungry bumbling idiot that can't manage any simple task. That's not him. Daemon during peace time is chaotic as is his restless nature. As most warriors are. He's never wanted to be king or the responsibility of it. He only ever wanted to be valued above other houses. As is his station and valyarian blood. It's his family he wants on top but he knows he's not the guy for it. Which is why he's fiercely loyal to Raeynera and Viscerys. His approach to all of this is by far better in the books and I'm starting to get annoyed with the constant missteps the writers keep making. This is George's fav Targaryen. You would think that would come with some responsibility to do his character justice. Even last season adding in him killing his wife? Why? Lol what purpose did that serve. Stupid and pointless. Book daemon is a grey character restless in peace time but the guy you want next to you in times of war. Who loves his family. Show daemon is an evil treacherous fuck with no loyalty to anyone and a bumbling idiot that can't manage the simplest task on his own. What the fuck happened!? He also easily subdues the riverlands and is completely unaffected by Alys rivers and harrenhal magic. Which i always thought was bad ass. Wish we got that and they expanded on that. Not write a bunch of bullshit out they ass to stretch shit out...

This is my favorite episode despite the controversial scene. Daemon and Aemond are mirror images of each other. The "scene" of his dream is simply a rendering of his great and terrible need for validation and the fact his mother played the lead role reinforces my opinion. Aemond is remorseless as is Daemon. They will both undo their respective causes. Lord Velaryon is growing on me. I always liked him. Self-made men are easy to admire but those devoted to their partners. I idolize. I feel for him, and I am eager for him to take vengeance.

So many people in the comments are taking the “Meleys is a beloved dragon” hilariously out of context. The rest of the sentence makes it clear that he’s referring to how Meleys was a symbol of the perceived invincibility of the dragons to the KL population, that is the point he is trying to make. Rhaenys’s bursting through the floor in season 1 does not contradict this. And the episode itself does not show people mourning Meleys, it just shows shock, which fits. This isn’t at all a “Dany kinda forgot” moment, actually listen to what he says and stop trying to make it one.
