On the dawn of the launch of the Mizuno Pro 241/243/245 irons, Director of R&D David Llewellyn takes us closer than ever to Mizuno's renowned Grain Flow Forging plant - to discover how far the process has evolved in recent years. Mizuno has produced its forged irons in Hiroshima, Japan, since 1968. The Mizuno Pro irons are now available for fitting. Find your local Mizuno fitter at MizunoGolf.com

Love the fact that Mizuno put out these videos over time about the background, design, process of making clubs, not many manufacturers do. Used to have a set of 919 HM and will certainly keen to try out another set in the future after watching this.

I don’t believe the other manufacturers have anything at this level to show. There are other quality irons available, but none rival Mizuno.

Been playing Callaway Epic Forged for a number of years now. Been hunting what my next set of irons will be. I think I’ve found them!! Those 245’s are going in the bag!! Thanks for such a cool video! It’s rare to see such an in depth look behind the curtain!

When a company has something worth showing, they’ll show it. Mizuno crafts the finest irons in the game…now you know why. My first set of Mizuno irons were the MX-25, I have two sets, one with stiff shafts, the other with regular shafts. They are awesome! I’ve added to my arsenal, a set of JPX-923 Hot Metal, JPX-900 Forged, and I just bought a set of Mizuno GRAD irons that I’m going to restore. My wife has a set of Mizuno Sora. We absolutely love Mizuno. I think my favorites are my MX-25 stuff shafts…there is no doubt you can “feel” the difference in a Mizuno. The feedback is instantaneous. The JPX-923 Hot Metals being a game improvement club are more forgiving, but don’t feel quite as good when you have great contact. These clubs don’t just perform amazing, they inspire confidence when you address the ball, and that helps the mental aspect of your game.

I played MP-58’s for nearly 7 years than moved into JPX 900 forged for one year. Haven’t played mizuno irons since 2017. after watching this video I can truly appreciate all their work. If I wasn’t recently (late 2022) custom fit for 2021 Titleist T100S irons I would go for the 243’s

I bought a set of MP-63's muscle back (diamond back) irons from a man who had them sitting in his garage for 11 years. He only hit them a few times at the range, so the clubs are in like new condition. Beautiful clubs! I like the thought of hitting the ball with a solid piece of metal. There is something primitive about it. Hitting the sweet spot is an indescribable feeling. I want the best, that's why I have four sets of Mizuno clubs. MP-63, MX-32, MP-60 Cut Muscle (bought used) and JPX-921 Hot Metal (bought new when I first started to learn golf).

I still have my MP-57’s. Love the feel of them…it’s like butter when you hit the sweet spot and good feed back on the miss hits. I’m older now and will probably never buy another iron set again. Then again I have mizuno irons so no need for “new”. They are Irons to last a lifetime.

Legendary irons!! Have played many variations throughout the years like the mp-32, mp-37, mp-64. I had a set of 695mb's and then switch them out for a new set of mp-64's and immediately sold the 695's. The Mizunos felt just slightly softer but the Mizunos were just more stable and consistent as well as less offset. Mp-64's are the GOAT and the offset pofile is damn near perfect, never go over 0.122 offset period ever. Couple things mizuno should bring back is the classic fonts of the mp-64 on the back of the iron and the sole as well as the original grain flow forged font. Mizuno's wear very well from use. Great products.

What did you go for? I'm guessing you decided the easier to hit irons were a more usable option as you become eligible for senior golf. The 245 have a similar look to the 24@,243 but so mich easier to strike. Especially after a few weeks on holiday. Plus so much easier to flight than a compatible tm or cway

When you see what goes into making these irons, and how it's done by hand not with robots, $1300-1500 for a set doesn't seem unreasonable at all. I am still gaming MP-33's, if you amortize the cost over the years, it's a bargain.

Copper plating is another process after the heads leave the forging factory. The face and neck of the 245 are its forged component, with a stainless steel back section.

I have played Mizuno since 1990. Every club in the bag from driver to putter. I have never owned a single club from anyone else since 1990. I'm probably your most loyal customer on the planet. Would love to see a new MX23. Large, forgiving, confidence inspiring, traditional lofts. A mild steel forging anybody can play. Feel, sound, looks all perfect. Not keen on the feel and sound of the chromoly at all. I'm not sure I could buy any new Mizuno irons right now. I don't feel there is anything in the range for me. Shame really. I'm retiring soon and it would be my last chance to buy new irons. Currently MP18MMC.

tough one to answer - the 923 Forged is the direct lineage to MX23. The change in feel is more down to the thinner face. Upside is more stability and ball speed….but it will have a slightly different feel to the MX23s. Thanks for being such a loyal Mizuno player. Afraid things do move on - it’s hard for us to go backwards, but we hear you.

@@mizunogolf1906 Thankyou so much for your reply. Still sporting the Domino putter from 1990, wouldn't change it for the world. I'm 59 in a couple of months and I'm finding it a little harder to hold onto a 5 handicap. Would love a little extra head length. You could always sponsor my youtube channel with a set of irons........ 🤣🤣🤣

There’s plenty to lament about the disappearance of American craftsmanship, but this isn’t an example of that. The best forging has always been done in Japan all the way back to the days of the samurai sword.

8:11 I'm not buying that for a minute. Im a Mizuno player but this guy is laying it on a bit thick. Blocking some of the excess material that is coming out of the sides of the press so more material is captured inside the head shape? This is physics; if the metal squeezes out the sides, that's because the useable area is completely full of material.
@mizunogolf1906

It’s a genuine thing. Grains within the steel are tighter if less material escapes.

Miura tend to weld their irons. Create the head and then spin weld on the hosel. Not sure which models but they have that reputation. Years ago Mizuno posted some photos of iron heads they had cut open to show the welding.
