7 жыл бұрын

Acclaimed guitarist Amyt Datta provides unique insights into the parallels in life and music. He further explains how finding a balance between surprise and variety is important for harmony, both in the musical sphere as well as our day-to-day lives.
Amyt Datta is a guitarist, composer, and producer from Kolkata. He is also a session musician, teacher, and mentor. Datta, who commands a sort of demigod status with guitar fans across the country, is widely acknowledged to be one of the most innovative guitarists around today. By the age of 20, he was playing all over India, primarily with one of the most notable rock acts of that era called Shiva. He's been called the true living guitar god of India by Rolling Stones.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

I think it is the same everywhere, non musicians only focus on the singer because they dont play instruments themselves so they cant really relate to instrumentalists

Everything changes when you move to classical guitar. You have none of the crutches that other guitar players rely on. You have to do it all by yourself. No Marshall stack is gonna cover for you lack of ability. Why do you think classical guitar players never use steel strings ? Most ordinary guitar players are so clueless about the instrument that they cant even answer that question. And if you cant answer that question you know nothing about the guitars greatest strength.

An interesting view on music, as one note being in the company of another, or an harmonious friend. Got me thinking about the unharmonious, or dissonant relationships in life, as well. The tension and release section made a lot of sense. I'm definitely of the belief that Seeing music like this can allow you to bring more to your instrument, and your musical expression.

Singers are born and Musicians are made. And rightly said that in India, Musicians are always hidden behind the curtains. Whereas in western world every member of the band is equally appreciated. Thats because of lack of understanding of music. And sadly legends like Amyt Datta are wasted talents in India..

Camera work needs improvement. Taking the camera away every time the guitarist would position his fingers on the fretboard was hard to see his finger positioning, making it hard to enjoy what he was illustrating. In this kind of illustration, it is easier to keep the camera focus right in front of the guitarist, to be able to enjoy and fully understand his expression, therefore, helping to connect in a smoother way with the guitarist. However, I understand the camera work was intended to make it more interesting by positioning the camera at different angles, obviously. I am not a camera expert. I was an audience that while observing and listening brought out this feeling in me. Nevertheless, interesting and learning was great from this amazing guitarists. Thank you to the guitarist and thank you Tedx for this wonderful opportunity.
