Welcome to Black Opal Direct!
This tiny opal was almost too small for me to hold on to; can I cut it into a thousand-dollar gem?
We ended up with an absolute stunner but it wasn't what I had planned!

The thing about the smaller stone though, is that it has purple as the dominant color, which makes it much more rare. I think people would pay much more for that little guy, based on the color alone. I love it--I think it's absolutely stunning.

Nevertheless, I am sure we will be seeing Justin wooping it up flossin and celebrating a huge beautiful win in a stone soon. Once again many many thanks for another great video, chin up Justin, a big bright stone is on its way for you, I just feel it.

Really skilled work Justin. Such as excellent craftsman and the camera work is very professional. Was specking around lightning ridge in July and found a very small similar sized broken nobby on a fresh mine dump. Had a very dark base with intense bluish green flash. Unfortunately had a potch crater through one half of the face of the stone. Started cleaning it up with 1200grit wet and dry Emery paper and water but not much of it left now. Will just have to admire as is. Thanks for sharing 👍

Thanks for sharing a small "rock" cutting. That's what I have to practice with right now, so good to see it can be done. I might have to buy some ACME stickum though to keep from dropping...or use a dop stick! Always fun to see the reveal. Kinda like fishing. Sometimes you think it's a big one on the other end then when it comes to the surface and see it's a little one, it's a letdown. But at least the opal can't swallow the hook and add insult to injury! Looks like there is a bidding war a few posts down with the small opal!

I agree whole-heartedly with your assessment Justin. Stones that have hybrid pattern ought to consider that in the brightness scoring, if not for eye appeal then for the fact that lapses in flash on the face of the opal in any viewing angle will result in less light transfer/visibility of color. Under no circumstance will a customer ever be dissapointed by an inclusion, scar, or streak of 5/5 color, but if it's just a little part of the stone then it only contributes, not defines. Spot on call with the 3.5/5
