Very informative. i can confirm your positive aspects. I ordered my mx-30 yesterday.

How is it going? I 'm an MX 30 owner since 2 years, now, in Italy. My overall avg consumption is 11.9 kWh/100 km, driving with care and of course no highway. Despite it's tiny range, I do love this crazy car...

I love Mazda and had 3 of them, one of which still with me, CX5 2018, love it. However, this was nerve-wracking to watch, I felt cold, anxiety, unsafe time strain. I would keep my 33 MPG fun, reliable CX 5 till I am the last man standing.

Andrei, what is your battery settings on ? You may need to enable battery pre heating in the settings in order to heat the battery to charge it faster.

Test drove one yesterday, a very pleasant car, great spec. But came to KZfaq to confirm my suspicion about range! Thanks for posting

Wonder what would be the range in cold. Like -20 degrees Celsius, all heating on, driving something like 90 km/h.
@updlate47563 жыл бұрын
The vehicle clearly wasn't built with long trips in mind, unless you buy the one with the range extender. As a second or third household car, used entirely for commuting, it'll be fine the majority of the time. Bit pricey, but depends on factory/dealer incentives and government subsidies. This is 85 miles in the winter at 2C / 35F with the heat running, whereas the average European round trip commute is 25 miles and average US commute is 32 miles. I don't think most owners would ever want to charge it to 100% or drive it down under 5%, so 80% - 5% would be 64 miles. Still plenty for commuting and errands. Throw in supermarket / workplace charging, and the range can be expanded. I like these cold tests with the HVAC set to at least 65 F, but why do IEVs reviewers always insist on doing cold tests without coats / gloves / boots? I guess he's operating the camera, but living in a cold climate, everyone I know drives with at least a coat and gloves. Boots... maybe not everyone... but once you realize how much warmer your feet stay, it's worth it. Pre-heat the car so the air, seats, and steering wheel are warmed up when you get inside and you don't develop an initial chill, and wear warm gear to retain your body heat. Drive with the heated seat on instead of allowing your body to get cold, requiring you to turn the HVAC on.

Well done Andrei! I enjoyed your video very much. I ve been wondering how far it would go when you are down to 0% SOC. Any chance of you testing that until it actually dies??? YES its lovable but not great for road trips. Sadly road trips are not frequent in our family anyways. 7320 miles with the MX-30.
@OneTireFire3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Based on other MX-30 range tests that i have watched or read about, it had maybe another 3-5 km in it before it stopped completely. Even during my test, for the last 1-2 km i almost had to keep the go pedal all the way down to maintain the pace. Glad you enjoyed the video!

I'm willing to bet the reason the battery pack is so small is because of financial reasons. Not the excuses they've given. Like how much the battery costs them (low economy of scale due to relatively small order from supplier) and how much profit they can make while selling at a price people might be willing to pay.

A range extender here in Norway? ....as from 2025 pure EV's only! Mazda are going to continue developing their combustion engine according to their email to me. Not sure who they will sell their petrol cars to. I call them the Benjamin Button of the car industry. I.o.w going backwards.
@robburcham62893 жыл бұрын
I like Mazda but I think they failed on their first EV. Not enough range, impractical rear doors, it should have 200hp and 200 miles of range minimum. A car like the mx30 should be considerably cheaper for the limitations it has.
@rich86693 жыл бұрын
Why Mazda? If this was 60kwh, looked exactly like the CX-5, and charged at 150kw, this would be my number one choice. Even over the new Ioniq 5.
@cloudbase41403 жыл бұрын
Great presentation. Thanks. 83 miles from 100% to zero ! Most people want to just jump in an EV and use it, so 80% to 20% is the comfort zone. For this car thats nowhere near enough mind miles.

The car has a heat pump, which is very positive. Then you don't have to have full heat in the car. 17 degrees is enough and then it draws much less electricity than at 24 degrees. They recommend that you use seat and steering wheel heating before the air conditioning if possible. Then you certainly save some range on it. You get to test yourself.

I drive an old 2008 Prius in the UK. It’s taught me about energy conservation - it uses more petrol in winter for heating! I keep the heater at 17c max and on fan speed one (what I term minimal life support). I don’t even have heated seats or steering wheel but I get by via dressing warm in winter and wearing gloves if I need them - at 16c on board, I usually don’t. I suspect there would have been more range at 17c heater setting and blower at minimum - and speed at 60 to 65 mph - I’d have gone with 60 mph for the journey - and also utilised freewheeling wherever possible - regenerative braking too! However, thank you for a good real life experiment with your settings in the MX-30. Great video for the MX-30 enthusiast or prospective buyers.

135km?? I just feel sad for all the Mazda PR people doing backflips trying to defend the anti-EV choises made with this car. "Its our first ground up EV! That will be offered with a range extender. And an ICE only version.."

No-one at Mazda ever said it's a "ground up" EV. It's based on the CX30 platform.

this thing with battery degradation after a few years will go maybe 50km in hot or cold weather lol, no amount of nice words you said can save it from its demise. It's priced a couple thousand more than a Bolt EUV which goes 4 times longer range (from 100km to 400km), so how do you think it's going to do ? This car shows why california compliance is a waste of time and materials

Thanks for your report on MX30, wich is absolutely true. I share with you my experience after 3 months driving a MX30, which is indeed a very gorgeous car, inside-out with outstanding finishing quality and very comfortable and pleasant to drive. BUT WHAT A SHAME!!! Technically as an EV, MX30 is useless! When the temperature drops to freezing point or even near, driving range on the highway drops to 110KM (140KM off highway) and worst is the charging time, it takes over 3 hours (in cold weather) to recharge the battery on a CCS 50KW/h charging station and not 45 minutes as announced by Mazda! You need to stop 3 hrs at a fast DC charger or 10hrs on a AC charger, to drive only one hour! Imagine, if occasionally you have to go just over 100km away from home! Totally useless! Why Mazda did such a terrible mistake???
@snoopy1783 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jimmy. how fast does the MX30 charge on CCS in warm weather? Hopefully better than 3 hours! :->
@Dolikhani3 жыл бұрын
@@snoopy178 if the temperature is above 20c, it would take 70 minutes to charge the batteries fully, from 10% to 100%. As the range is so short, you have to always charge the MX30 to 100%, to be able to reach your destination.
