Good review! I am in the market for a new car in the next two years and I wanted to hold off on getting a Model Y in favor of competing small suv ev's that have more features and better designs. The Ariya is just what I am looking for. Of course I will wait for a test drive video from many sources before deciding but videos like these are super helpful.

I’m based in the UK, but this is the first hands-on review on the Ariya outside the launch videos. I am seriously looking to order the long range AWD version. I have looked at the VW ID4 and the Tesla model Y, but I absolutely hate the large Ipad type displays on both vehicles. The interior of the Ariya (which is where the driver spends all the time, rather than looking at the outside) really hits the spot for me. I love the two similar sized side-by-side displays that look as if there were designed to be there, rather than afterthoughts. Plus, the Ariya has a HUD which is another item on the wish list. It isn’t available in the UK until late 2021, but I have booked a test drive for the first demos to arrive. I will be extremely interested in your reviews when you get to drive a production ready model.

Thanks for the preview, this is a contender for my next vehicle. I’m also looking at the VW ID4 and the Audi Q4 E-Tron. I love the price point on the ID4 , great value and a lot safety features. The dash layout is something that will have to grow on me. The Nissan is checking off a lot boxes in terms of tech, safety, styling both inside and out. Waiting to see what the price points are. Living in the Midwest and having all wheel drive is the way to go. I also do a lot of hi-way driving, so I have not decided on which battery pack is best. Looking forward to seeing more in depth reviews on all 3 vehicles.

Good thorough review. I'm a Nissan Lifer! I prefer their Sport variants. I'm an old-head and getting kinda stubborn, so I'm not with the whole "E" game yet. I love the appearance of this one, has the Euro Sportback look. Just wish they would offer a petrol variant with the VQ engine or their new 2.0T or 3.0 with at least 250 hp. I've bean shopping a Sportback hot-cross for about two years, and was considering Audi, but of course they're not bringing us the Q3SB. But infiniti of about to bless us with it's new QX55! So I'll wait to see if Nissan will answer my Prayer and do this Ariya with gas power, otherwise come on QX55! Again, good review! 👏 👌

We've put about 25k miles on our 2nd gen Leaf and are anxious to spend time with the Ariya. Love the open floor, moveable armrest and backseat legroom is insane! Hoping they 1) figure out how to add a sunroof to an EV, and 2) work out the suspension. The Leaf is horrible for any spirited driving, especially if the road has quick dips or hills - the car's just too heavy for the struts and suspension tuning so it (comically) wallows a lot.

From the side it looks like this car is jacked-up at least 2” to accommodate the battery underneath to keep the car plugged to 12 V source; if, however, this is the regular stance of the car, not nice. Also, the back of car, the distance between the rear bumper and the back light is a huge empty vertical space (suboptimal).

I would love to get the small battery with e4orce. The problem is with the maintaing the car - the closest Nissan dealership and service center (60km away) is quite bad. @CyberVeg Thank you for the polite comment. For me, Patrol is old world's car: too big and heavy gas-guzzling monstrosity. GTR, while admittedly nice sports car when it was launched in 2007, carries now a little bit of boy racer image and is not the comfortable family car which I need. Both are also too expensive and more importantly, use fossil fuel. Nissan Leaf was a pioneer in EV market, but boy was it ugly. The current Leaf is somewhat easier on the eyes but still has mostly 10 year old tech (#rapidgate) with super uncomfortable driving position. For me, Nissan has been one of least desirable Japanese car brands, but now Ariya might change that.

Or it should be like my OnePlus 8, set a time for use so the car will charge to 80 percent then idle charge until the last hour or two before your scheduled time. That way you save your battery from unneeded stress AND you have 100% charge first thing in the morning

The only negative I see about this so far is the lack of a frunk. I don’t need a frunk to hold a golf bag, but given that SUVs don’t have a separate non-glass locked area like the trunk of a car, a small frunk is really useful for occasionally securing purses, laptops, tablets, etc.
@Antiguan_Dart
@Antiguan_Dart 2 жыл бұрын
Really good point. Although once in the cabin any frunk can readily be opened. But certainly that’s less opportunistic than a smash and grab! On that point maybe frunks should be separately lockable for added security.

Chademo is the only protocol allowing bidirectional power flow. I bought a used 30KWh LEAF specifically because I can plug a 3kw inverter into the Chademo port to help power things around my house when the grid goes down. For me this is a big drawback of the Ariya. The built in 240v inverter in the Tesla Cybertruck is an important selling point for me.
