Thanks for watching. This generator was sitting for a long time and of course it had gas in the tank and now it won't start. The fix is usually servicing the carburetor and removing all of the old gas.

I want to say THANK YOU ,, THANK YOU for your video. A friend of mine has this exact Powermate and it hadn't run in 5 years. He told me if I could get it to run he would give me $100. I watched your video and did the cleaning of the carburetor and drained the tank of Yellow fuel. I messed with it for about 3 hours,, draining the tank and putting fresh fuel in and draining.. I did that twice, the inside of the tank was clean... I fired it up and it started and ran just fine. The only thing that was different on the one I worked on was at 1:20 of your video you put the power switch on the "O" and tried starting it... "O" is actually the OFF position on the one I am tinkering with. Other than that,, you saved the day... I'm sure I won't take my buddy's $100... we help each other out,, and besides if I ever need to borrow it... I will have it....

Well there you go. My main mistake was not running it for over a year. Now the power is out and I can't get the darn thing to start, and I'm definitely not at the level of fixing carburetors. Fortunately it's not too cold here.

I keep mine in the garage. 2 1/2 years ago, I put nonethanol treated gas in it and ran it. I turned the fuel valve off and let it run till it died, then drained the bowl completely of gas. I checked the carb 6 months ago and it looked brand new. I then started it on the old gas and it ran just fine. I did the same shutdown procedure and put it back in my garage. I will be draining the tank, changing the oil, putting fresh fuel in before run it again.

I keep mine in the garage. I use 93 octane with the appropriate amount of Seafoam in my gas can. I run it for about 30 minutes every other month and use an electric heater and some power tools as a load just to exercise it. I have a couple coworkers that huff and puff about how they’re not spending the money on higher octane fuel, Seafoam and exercising the generator. They’re also the ones that call me when their power is out and ask me to look at their generator because it’s not starting 😂. It’s only a couple of bucks extra for 10 gallons and easy insurance.

The last time I ran my generator was three years ago. I closed the fuel shut off valve and let the generator use up the fuel that was in the line, but I left the old fuel in the tank. Does this tank need to be rinsed out with fresh gas before I get it ready for hurricane season?
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE
@INSIDEHOUSEGARAGE 4 жыл бұрын
It depends, did you use any ethanol gas or was it 100% gas? Either way you may want to rinse it out with some fresh gas.

3 years ago, yeah I would not hesitate. Even if you were able to get it to run today it could be degraded to the point that if/when you need it it won't start. Great question.
