My man, I’m a Realtor and I feel I got more information on photography in this FREE video than I did in 7 days of real estate classes. Real Estate school is more about laws and buying and selling state laws. Not about taking pics of a house. Videos like this help RE Agents a lot if they don’t plan to hire a pro to take the pics and use the drone and all that. But I guess it depends on what kind of market you are in. Great video. I've started out doing real estate photography, and whilst I'm pretty decent behind the camera, I have learnt quite a bit from this video. I'm now more confident capturing interiors. As an added bonus, I really pleased to see the tutorial on the use of creating HDR images using lightroom. I always use photoshop and it takes me an absolute age to create HDR files... so this video has be perfect. Thank you!

Vinny S. Costa thanks! You certainly could use RAWs if you wanted to but for HDR There’s not much benefit there I think personally. And when you’re doing 5-6 shoots a day those large RAW file sizes start to add up!

I love your approach. I have shyed away from real estate photography because so many other tutorial videos have been over the top, complicated. Since you have had a thriving business for 10 years, I'm going with your simplified methods and obviously I can always add lighting and such as needed. regarding the focus delay when using the remote, I find that using back button focusing while composing the image to be more efficient. That way the camera doesn't try to hunt for focus at all when pressing the remote prior to firing.

I set focus to manual. I push auto focus on touch display, look at my peaking and fire off some brackets.

Shoot hand-held. Stick a speed light on the camera and point it to ceiling above and behind camera Set camera to manual and shoot RAW f6.3, 1/80th to 1/200th sec, and ISO320. Set flash to TTL+1.3. Even out exposure in Lightroom. That’s it, fast, easy, and great quality for MLS.

I agree with everything in this video, except that you always...Always should shoot RAW, not JPG. There is much more data in RAW files that you can adjust it much more than a jpeg file.

I literally stopped the video I was gunna move on bc shooting jpeg over raw is an unforgivable sin you loose all the sensor data but im happy this was the first comment

@@Jandodev not so in real estate. jpeg is much quicker to process as it’s a considerably smaller file. If you pay attention to keep the white balance correct by using kelvin, the images nearly perfect out of camera. For my personal work, yes, raw always.

As a long time wedding photographer who has loved architecture and is slowly dabbling into real estate, this video was incredibly helpful! While I'm a Canon + PC shooter, your instructions were still concise, detailed, and easily translatable between workflows and systems. Extra kudos since you also own a Slik Pro 700DX! Owned mine for over 12 years so far and it's taken work like a champ! I'll definitely look into the head swap part you mentioned for leveling. Great video!

I’ve been photographing real estate for years now, so honestly I was just “video stalking” to see what you have to say. I’m impressed by the amount of information you shared in such a short video. I’ve found RE photography to be mostly about problem solving, and your video addresses many of those things - how to shoot in a cramped area, for example. If I can add one thing: I used to use those remotes like you do, but got tired of scrambling for a battery, or trying to find the darned thing! I bought a wired shutter trigger for my camera (FUJIFILM XT-4), so that it’s attached to the camera the whole time, and I don’t have to worry about accidentally losing it. I also photograph pets, especially for rescues, and the wired trigger allows me to interact with the pets, and still get a great shot!

This is a great primer. Thumbs up. Subscribed. I've been shooting RE for only a couple of years and I really think you did a great job of giving the beginner everything they need to get started. The only thing I do different than you is focus. I do not use autofocus. I've tried it, but I shoot a lot of empty rooms in new houses and AF sometimes does not work against a blank wall (and if I don't catch it right away, I end up having to drive back to the house tp re-shoot). So I just set it to manual focus and set the lens to infinite focus. It works great for me.

Thanks! Yes exactly, those are the situations where auto focus doesn’t work. I can tell when it’s happening and just switch to manual for those shots.

Thank you so much for this informative video. My wife is a RE agent and sometimes a property may not worth spending the money for a professional to come out (fixer upper) but she still wants quality photos vs something taken with a phone. I have been doing automotive photography for many years and this gave me the info I needed for camera settings, tripod height, etc. You have earned my subscription.
