It’s very different interviewing artists and bands now as opposed to 30 years ago. What I mean is that what you saw in the spectacular film, Almost Famous where Cameron Crowe tells his story of interviewing rock gods doesn’t really exist anymore and before all of the keyboard quarterbacks come after me for being negative let me clarify. What I mean is that the ROCK STAR LIFESTYLE and ATTITUDE of yesteryear has for the most part, disappeared.
Times change and the excess rock and roll is done the party is over. Well almost. I have experienced a small inkling of some of that wildness in interviews.. I remember there was a frontman who a few years back was one of the biggest in the world who asked me if I wanted to do some blow with him. I politely declined.
I once did an interview, where i felt like i’d been transported to the heyday of rock and roll. with a group that is one of the last true rock bands that represent the old guard…I’m not talking about the excess as much as I’m talking about the feeling, the attitude and the spirit. I’m talking about the brothers Hawkins. Justin and Dan of the Darkness. These guys were hilarious. When they first came out, they blew up our radio.
