How to clean range hood filters... How about using the products you probably have at home in the cupboard to easily clean the range hood filters, but which to use?
Cleaning the grease from the stove hood filters is a job we all tend to forget about, and after months or years of fats, grease, steam and smoke build up we are going to need something pretty special to remove that grimey stuff.
I try 3 different cleaning methods and show you the results. You can judge for yourself and chose the one you prefer. I hope this video helps you out with this cleaning chore.
If you want to run your fridge on less power, and keep it cooler during summer - check out this quick hack that saves $$ • An easy maintenance cl...
For this I used;
1. Dishwasher powder or crumbled up dishwasher tablet
2. Baking Soda and Dish detergent
3.Spray oven cleaner
these all took 20-30 mins to work, during this time I made a baking soda and water paste and cleaned the stainless steel extractor fan housing.

I was hunting around the house for something to clean my filter with. Thought about dishwasher, then saw your vid. I smashed up a dishwasher tablet in the packet, then ripped it open and put it into the water. Then placed the filter in the water and it instantly started working. Then pored a jug of boiling water in there tub and presto, it went crazy.. My filter hadn’t been cleaned for more than 20 yrs, so it was pretty bad. Thankyou so much for your help :)

Oven cleaner method was a success! I allowed the oven cleaner to sit on mine for 2 full hours. I rinsed with water, but some grease was a little stubborn so I had to use a scrub brush and dish soap as well. They looked great! But to be extra clean I popped them into the dish washer with Cascade detergent, and turned it onto the sanitize cycle. They look practically brand new! I think now I should be able to do weekly cleaning/maintenance with the dishwasher. I feel like as long as you do a weekly clean, then there won't be a need for oven cleaner again.

To clean off a sticky residue left on my filters from a previous botched clean, I soaked them in your 1 cup of Bi-Carb in boiling water mix (omitting the dishwashing detergent) for a few hours and with minimum light scrubbing and hot water rinse, they came out sparkling clean and all sticky residue gone 😊. Thankyou 🎉. That Easy Off Oven Cleaner has gone up in price from $3.50 to $5.75 now with Inflation- a horrible product to use inside a confined space like the Oven- can burn your skin, and damage lungs- not worth the risk.

My filter is made from aluminium, it’s discoloured from using a dissolved dishwashing tablet. Since mine is inserted into a cover no one really sees it, but something for others to keep in mind if they want them to stay looking shiny and new to avoid oxidising agents. Hot water and dish liquid on a more frequent basis might be better

What a great advise, thanks! I ended up using soda and washing up liquid, but I didn’t have big enough tray so I put it in the sink, the fat was literally melting away in front of my eyes, I used two full kettles of boiling water per each filter, didn’t need to wait, didn’t need to scrub and soda helps with odour in the sink so it kills two birds with one stone!

Thanks! My home came with great appliances, but the area under the microwave with built-in vents (above the range) has little globs of grease from the previous owner. Yuck. The dishwasher tablet did an easy, no-mess job for the filters, but the underside that I can't remove was another story. I got most of it with a thick paste of baking soda, dish soap, hot water and a grout brush, but some plastic areas just won't come clean at all.

Thank you. So...I decorated, putting antique glass jars and stuff ontop my cabinets, everything had a film of grease. I have not cleaned them in about eight years. I’ve been using hot water and Dawn, but they are not squeaky clean. I heard oven cleaner is the best, but do not had gloves. I will get them. I need to now clean my cupboards, they are greasy, too.

Hey. Yes this is the filter, and you are right you can add a charcoal filter. Add it above the metal ones otherwise they clog up too fast👍 Kent

I used lots hot water straight from the Rinnai hot water unit into the laundry (used lots so it would maintain a hot temperature) and sprinkled in some magic Finish "dust." Let sit for 5 minutes then gently scrubbed with a long handled nylon brush so I would get my fingies burned. There was about 10 years of gunk built up on this so they were chocka full of oily residue but 5 minutes was plenty. I did do a second full wash but that was totally unnecessary. The down side was my OCD then compelled me to clean the oven hood due to it being a oh so obvious yellow colour compared to the filters. For the last 6+ years I have been trying to get charcol filters for this rubbish hood but even the manufacturer can't get them made to fit the hood so I guess they (and the Good Guys) aren't getting my money for the new filters I was going to replace the old dirty/now clean shiney ones with. *Thank You* for this. Never occurred to this grumpy old bastard that they could be cleaned so easily. Much appreciated. 👍👍👍 (one for each filter)

@@InspireDIY you very welcome,my pleasure, you can also use that mix of vinager and dish soap equal parts for the showers, works very well, Put it on spray bottle, let it set up for 10 minutes, use the squeeze sponge map and Walla. I use that mix 🤣 for many things, I take always a bottle with the mix before heading to the car wash, I sprayed on the front bumper to take care of the bugs.

I'd use 2 tbs (~30g) each washing soda and clear detergent instead of the baking soda for 15 minutes. No scrubbing required. Washing soda is sodium carbonate, the same primary ingredient as dishwasher tablets, but is more convenient and versatile.

OxiClean. Instantaneous release of 100% of the grease. Get a large enough shallow tray or sink and mix OxiClean with very hot water, drop in the filter and bang, it's grease-free.

If you use oven cleaner spray, check the ingredients for sodium hydroxide, the chemical name for lye. If your filter is made of aluminum, the lye will dissolve it.

My filter got clean with a soak in baking soda/dishwashing liquid. Problem is though that there's what looks like aluminum shreds caught in between the two layers of mesh in the filter. It's clean shreds now, but the shreds are still there, and they fall out of the filter on to the stovetop. Any suggestions as to how to get them out of there? I can't find a place where the mesh can be taken apart. My filter isn't flat, it's sort of bowed? Like a third of a circle?? IDK how else to describe it. Designed that way, it's not due to age or anything like that.

When you use easy off, place the parts inside plastic bag ( trash bag) spray the product inside de bag and close the bag and let it set up overnight, the product doesn't dry and works very good, also you get less of the fumes, always use a face mask and gloves, easy off is very strong.
