The true teaching of the Bible is very rare these days. God has used technology and the internet and KZfaq to bolster his preaching. Anyone can learn from the comfort of their own home or if they're old and rather disabled like me. It is quite a blessing to be able to learn like this even in old age. Thanks so much.

Something to keep in mind, Moses (the author of Genesis) was Egyptian. Raised as a prince of Egypt, he'd have been educated in all Egyptian beliefs and taught hieroglyphics, etc. The Hebrew people he was writing to, were also Egyptian and had incorporated many of their beliefs into their own and worshiped their gods. They likely would have understood references to Egyptian ideologies and symbolisms. It would make sense that the connection between Genesis iconography and Egyptian culture would be very strong and would have been a common frame of reference when Moses wrote to the Hebrews to explain complicated topics, theologies and beings.

It however has to be remembered that according to the Supplementative hypothesis (the most plausible one for Christians), some parts of the Pentateuch were probably added after Moses. There were also originally two Mosaic writings: the general writings written during his life, and the Book of Law, uncompleted by his death, which contained the core of Deuteronomy and some later writings from the time of Joshua.

There is no (extra-Biblical, archeological) evidence to support any of this. There is no evidence of Moses in Egypt, no evidence he was raised as a prince, etc.

@@theboi553 The gospel of Jesus Christ is trans-cultural; Christ is Lord of all the earth and commissioned his disciples to make disciples of all nations. Thus, culturally appropriate depictions of Jesus are perfectly fine and healthy. Why some feel they need to make a big deal about it and think there must be some kind of magic ju-ju in how his name is pronounced, I have no idea. Sure, his name was pronounced _Yeshua_ by his contemporaries while walked the earth, but the God-breathed scriptures written in Greek have his name as Ιησους, so it just doesn't matter.

Ezekiel 28:12-19 KJV Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyre, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee. Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee. All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more.

@disguisedcentennial835 For an excellent apologetic documentary providing evidence for Moses as the writer of Genesis view The Patterns of Evidence film "The Moses Controversy". I do think that Moses drew from a pre-existing oral tradition about Genesis. But given his education in the Egyptian court he would have (under the influence of the Holy Spirit) been able to put it into a written form for the Hebrews. The invention of writing is only around 5000 years old.

@@mexican-americanmale3035 if the fruit actually gives us knowledge of good and evil and hence discernment, then the serpent is not bad but if the forbidden fruit refers to meat (animal flesh) then the serpent is an enemy. The reason I think its meat is because in Gen 1:29, the diet God gave humans did not include meat. If both creation stories are consistent, then the forbidden fruit is meat. When Eve (women) feed Adam (men) food that has meat, the resultant is the punishment that 'men' shall rule over 'women'. This dominion of men over women would totally come to an end when women stop feeding their husbands meat (forbidden fruit). That's one way I look at the Adam and Eve allegory.

Nice way to dismiss people not everybody has the time to sit around and make a video but they do have the time to notice when things that they see are not exactly correct dr. John Walton has been criticized by many a scholar, [Dr. Noel Weeks, Dr. Richard Averbeck, etc.] to name just a few and yet inspiringphilosophy continues to quote him without quoting and referring to those that take to task Walton's interpretations of scripture. Dr. Noel Weeks, once Senior Lecturer of Ancient History at the University of Sydney, critiquing Dr. Walton’s take on Ancient Near Eastern texts: “In summary I am not impressed by the whole approach…. There is no recognition of the difficulty of discerning a uniform mind of the ANE. Individual extra-biblical texts are turned into representations of the whole huge chronological and cultural span. Even more striking are claims that are simply false.”[7] Dr. Richard Averbeck, professor of Old Testament at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, “The point is that material creation was of great concern in the ANE as well as in ancient Israel.”[8]

Gonna wanna go back to the books on EM ... which is the coaxial longitudinal pulse perturbation that is light ...the magnetodielectric governs all and all is light (ie. Illumination) A black hole is neither black nor is it a hole. It’s a sink into counterspace... ie. Inertial centripetal convergence (inertia in acceleration) Magnetism is the opposite via force in motion vector ...centrifugal divergence The two are necessitated and they form the hypertrochoid (inverse throw of a sphere/torus is the hyperboloid counterspatial vector...it’s necessitatively so and it’s all a geometrical as above so below illusion of polarity)

There is more Babylonian influence in Genesis than Egyptian, which suggests that maybe Moses didn't write the version of the book of Genesis we have in the bible, but that it was written during Israel's exile to Babylon. Either way, that doesn't remove the fact that it is the inspired word of God.
@ravissary79
@ravissary79 5 жыл бұрын
@@danxmontiel777 that's backwards. The Israelites are descendants of who? Abraham. Where was Abraham from? Mesopotamia, North or sumer. Abraham and Babylon were both inheritors of the same traditions. Babylon didn't invent much of their own culture, but they updated the culture they inherited from ancient Sumeria by way of the Akadians. So Israelites culture was monotheistically reinterpreted Mesopotamian culture, imported into cannan for a few generations, but then moved to Egypt for nearly 400 years. So the Torah should be expected to reflect aspects of ancient Mesopotamian culture, Egyptian culture, and novelties defined in terms of backslashes against both. To a less obvious extent there's a lot if cannanite culture there as well, as Michael Heiser points out, in reactions to the Ba'al cycle myths in Cannan. The later writings incorporate aspects of Persian culture as well, then later, in the intertestamental period and the first century: aspects of hellenisation on one hand, and rejection of hellenisatiom on the other hand.

@UCMoYVjFH7JIlphcgjzGritQ @actuary1776 ...other than the clear editorial parentheticals (often attributed to ezra or one of his scribes) there's no evidence he didn't write it. The advent of the documentary hypothesis got going because of the early 19th century ivory tower belief Moses couldn't have written the Torah since he was undoubtedly illiterate. They unanimously believed this because at the time it was popularly assumed the Egyptians didn't have an actual written language because no one had discovered the Rosetta Stone yet. And since there were no ancient examples of Hebrew, the cynics just declared Moses illiterate. Thus they had to rationalize how the stories came together from multiple sources much later, so they looked for clues to discover this and they fixated of the use of different names for God and assumed they come from different authors. With modern scholarship exploding all of the mental gymnastics that made the JEPD documentary hypothesis seem plausible, there's now no reason not to attribute the Torah to Moses, or a scribe in his service. In Jewish tradition they're called the books of Moses.

I've studied this for a long time, and yet I am torn as to whether or not the Nachash in Genesis 3 is the same as Lucifer (Satan, The Adversary, who rebelled, etc.) who tempted Eve. Is it that Lucifer, HIMSELF, is a Nachash class of being or was it he, HIMSELF, who did the tempting/smooth-talking of Eve in the Garden, or is it that the Adversary/Lucifer/whatever "possessed" or somehow "coaxed" this "Serpent" (nachash) into tempting Eve. So, in essence, is it literally Satan who's doing the tempting, or is it a conspirator of Satan's who did the tempting FOR Satan? And if it's the latter, why would Lucifer do it that way, and not just do it himself? Your thoughts?

A thing to add to things related to snakes and the Genesis account is that snakes, according to their DNA, are supposed to have legs, but the DNA of snakes is "broken" to a strange degree where the snake functions without facing issues of the "broken" DNA, and this "broken" DNA is passed down to the offspring without issue or change. In my opinion, the curse given to the serpent in the Bible might be more than spiritual.

wonderful video! seriously. some things that I might disagree with you on: you often reason that, since Genesis 3 is following tropes from Egyptian myth about serpent gods, the Genesis 3 author likely meant "seraphim" instead of "serpent" or used "serpent" as a metaphor for "seraphim"/rebel angel. I wonder though if a simpler and more convincing explanation would be that, like most oral traditions put to writing, Genesis 3 is a version of an older Egyptian myth in which the author "misunderstands" or interprets the serpent god to be a literal serpent, who happens to rebel against god's order also I'm not sure I buy your argument that "beast of the field" doesnt apply to the serpent, since it is implicitly given the title again when it is being punished

There is a lot of confusion nowadays regarding Satan, and who he is, and what his name is in the Scriptures. Just as the Lord Himself has many names, from the Tree That Preserves Life in the Garden, to the Savior Riding the White Horse in Revelation, the Devil has many names, is called several different things, is characterized in numerous ways, and there are a lot of terms, names, and titles used to identify him. The many names, titles, and terms the Devil is called in the Scriptures: the Serpent/Snake; Satan; the Crooked Serpent/Snake; that Old Serpent/Snake Who Was in the Garden; the Hireling; the Bad Tree That Produces Bad Fruit; the Tree That Produces Knowledge That is both Good and Evil; the Punisher; the Seducer; the First Liar; the First Murderer; the Enemy; the Tempter; the God Who Rules Over This Age; the Accuser; The Angel Ruling Over the Bottomless Abyss; Apollyon (the Destroy er); the Devil; the Evil One; the Wicked One; Beelzebub (the God Who Rules Over the Flies); Lucifer (Light Bearing Son of the Morning); Belial (the Worthless One); the Fake One Who Presents Himself as a Messenger of Light; the Adversary; the Ruler Over Darkness; the Ruler Over the Atmosphere; the Ruler Over the Demons; the Anointed Guardian Kherubim; the Father of Lies; the Great Snake/Serpent (transliterated “Dragon” by the early translators: Huge Snake); the Lawless One; the Imposter; the Deceiver of all the Adamic Races; the Deceiver of the Entire Civilized World; the King of Tyre (as a type); the King of Babylon (as a type); a Fallen Star; the Thief, as the Sheep Stealer; the King Over the Lowest Level of the Pit-the Bottomless Part; the Tree filled with Thorns, the Second Beast in Revelation 13; a Roaring Lion; the False Prophet; the Deranged Serpent/Snake, Leviathan; the Son Who Brings Destruction; the Man Who Brings Sin; Murderer; the Devil who Moves about Like a Raging Lion; all synonymous names for the Serpent in the Garden and all terms and names the Devil is called in the Scriptures. Note: Some of the above were in the genitive construction, all of which require some work to bring into English so readers can appreciate their true meaning. I have fully translated them instead of using the English word, “of” (as the early translators did and that most every translator since has done), for which there is no equivalent in either Hebrew or Hellenistic Greek. The closest would be “ek,” which has the core meaning, “out of,” in Greek. Lilly Bloom

Also, snakes have been proven to have lost their legs, so it could be he truly was made to slither. Either way, I do think there being a massive war in Heaven hints that his fall came before Eden. I love this channel! And I think this interpretation is spot on. But I also think you might be too narrowly defining some of the story's key elements. For instance, while I think you've made a great case for the serpent being more than a beast of the field, it's clearly connected to the beasts of the field in Genesis 3, as you pointed out. So I don’t think we should dismiss that, especially when there appears to be a good narrative reason for it. In Genesis 1, God creates man in his own image to have dominion over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky and the creatures that move on the ground. Man, as the image of God, is intended to rule over all other creatures and yet in the fall, he fails to have dominion over a representative of the beasts, the serpent, and finds himself cursed to endless cycle of subjugation. The serpent is cursed to eat the dust and war with woman. The woman to war with serpent (via her offspring) and to war with man. And man to war with the ground until he returns to the dust in death, to be eaten by the dust-eating serpent. Round and round it goes. Instead of creation being rightly ordered by the dominion of God's image, everyone is eating and being eaten by each other. The beasts also appear to represent more than just animals. The dominion over the animals in Genesis 1, as you’ve rightly pointed out, has the connotation of enslavement of other human beings. In Daniel 2 and 7, we find Daniel playing with the themes of images of Genesis 1-3. In Daniel 2, Nebuchadnezzar dreams of an idol (image of God) made of four different metals which represent four different Gentile kingdoms which are in turn destroyed by a rock cut from a mountain and growing into a mountain, representing the kingdom of God. And in Daniel 7, Daniel has a vision of four beasts representing the same Gentile kingdoms which are in turn destroyed by "one like the son of man" (the image of Man/God contrasted with these four beasts) who represents the kingdom of God. It seems to me that Genesis 1-3 also has this same idea within it. The beasts aren't simply beasts but are representative of the Gentile nations over which God had called Israel to have dominion. Genesis 1-3 isn't a history lesson about human origins; It’s a metaphorical/mythological summary depicting for us the Bibles main themes. In the Beginning God creates Man (male and female) as the image (idol) of his temple, gives them a law and a land but Man disobeys the law and is ejected from the land. That's the story of Israel. Eden is the rightly ordered davidic kingdom. The fall isn’t just history; it’s a warning to Israel about the dangers of religious and cultural assimilation.

Two year later.... I think your understanding of the word "beast" in English is imposing over the hebrew "hayyah" a meaning that is not natural in it's own context. The most adecuate english equivalent is "creature", because "hayyah" literally means living being, and implies created living existence. Conceptually, anything that is alive is a hayyah, including humans and angels, because it is a broader term even than nephesh. But, in practice, it is by a very large margin used to name zoological beings (animals). It doesn't directly imply savage or wild animals, though.

Awesome! Been getting some downloads about this as well... And do believe that these dragons/seraphs/jinn are a race of beings created before us humans as the 'keepers of earth' with free will and the ability the replicate, but are made of 'fire'/spirit/qi and hence non-physical. Dust, sheol etc. Also refer to 'the desert' which is a metaphysical place in the underworld which is characterized as a place without the presence of God... Death, dryness (no water of life) etc. You will see this place referenced many times as the 'desert' or 'wilderness' and where demons go and where Jesus was tempted after his fast...

We are made from the dust and to dust we will return. The serpent was cursed to eat dust. It would explain why the adversary is described as seeking someone to devour (1 Peter 5). It would also explain why the dragon waits in front of the woman who is about to give birth in order to eat her child (Revelation 12). Just something thats been on my mind. Im sure the serpent eating dust has much more meaning than simply falling.

Minute 13:55 onward to say the fall of humaniy and Lucifer at the same time is an oxymoron, the serpent was clearly in a fallen stage already when tempted Eve (it lie, deceive and was rebelious when it said to be "like God",) the nice graphics in this video does not support the Bible hermeneutics.

@borneandayak6725
@borneandayak6725 4 жыл бұрын
@Raymond Palmer Heylel in Hebrew means : morning star/day star. The Latin for Lucifer means "light-bearer". The word Lucifer never be the name of Devil in Hebrew, since there is no devil or satan who named "Heylel" in Jewish religious tradition. There is many people who have a name Lucifer in early Christian church, for example St. Lucifer of Cagliari, the defender of the deity of Christ with St. Athanasius. During the Easter Vigil liturgy, the Catholic Church use the word Lucifer as a reference to Jesus : "May this flame be found still burning by the *Morning Star: (Latin:Lucifer)* the one *Morning Star (Latin:Lucifer)* who never sets, Christ your Son, who, coming back from death's domain, has shed his peaceful light on humanity, and lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen." Scripture itself calls Jesus the morning star: Revelation 22:16 "I, Jesus, have sent Mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star *(Latin:Lucifer)"* If you red the verses in context, the passage never referring "Heylel" as the for the Devil, but explicitly refers to the king of Babylon as a man (Heb., ’ish) who conquered kingdom : Is. 14:12, 16-17 How you are fallen from heaven, *O Day Star,* son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low! “Is this *the man* who made the earth tremble, who shook kingdoms, who made the world like a desert and overthrew its cities, who did not let his prisoners go home?” It also refers multiple times to his decay after death and how he will not lie in his own tomb : Is. 14:11 Your pomp is brought down to Sheol, the sound of your harps; *maggots are the bed beneath you, and worms are your covering”* Is. 14:18-19 All the kings of the nations lie in glory, each in his own tomb; but *you are cast out,* away *from your sepulcher,* like a loathed untimely birth.
@borneandayak6725
@borneandayak6725 4 жыл бұрын
@Raymond Palmer both Catholic and early Protestant Fathers never interpret "Heylel" as the name of the Devil. Both Luther and Calvin refer Heylel as the King of Babylon : Luther wrote: 12. How you are fallen from heaven, Lucifer! *This is not said of the angel who once was thrown out of heaven but of the king of Babylon,* and it is figurative language. Isaiah becomes a disciple of Calliope and in like manner laughs at the king. Heylel [the Hebrew word used in the text] denotes the morning star, called Lucifer and the son of Dawn. “Heaven” is where we are with our heads, and that is obviously above the ground, just as that most powerful and extremely magnificent king was once above, but now his lamp is extinguished (Luther’s Works 16:140; Preface to the Prophet Isaiah, ch. 14). Calvin was quite hostile to the application of this passage to the devil, writing: 12. How art thou fallen from heaven! Isaiah proceeds with the discourse which he had formerly begun as personating the dead, and concludes that the tyrant differs in no respect from other men, though his object was to lead men to believe that he was some god. He employs an elegant metaphor, by comparing him to Lucifer, and calls him the Son of the Dawn; and that on account of his splendor and brightness with which he shone above others. *The exposition of this passage, which some have given, as if it referred to Satan, has arisen from ignorance; for the context plainly shows that these statements must be understood in reference to the king of the Babylonians.* But when passages of Scripture are taken up at random, and no attention is paid to the context, we need not wonder that mistakes of this kind frequently arise. Yet it was an instance of very gross ignorance, to imagine that Lucifer was the king of devils, and that the Prophet gave him this name. But as these inventions have no probability whatever, let us pass by them as useless fables (Commentary on Isaiah at 14:12).

I guess the universe is supposed to be as some kind of organism. Some beings have specific duties. But when an eye cell believes it's a... neuron, that's call cancer... If everyone keeps his assigned duty everything will be perfect, but you know, things are not as easy as they may seem. Just as in Tolkien's Ainulindalë: Let's say some "discord" must be played out so some deep songs with spiritual meaning can be played. This way we all will be able to defeat our biggest enemy: Ourselves. As Tolkien said about his unfinished new book called "The new shadow": "It is inevitable that we should be concerned about the most regrettable feature of Men's nature: Their quick saciety with good"

Why do artists often portray the Forbidden Fruit as an apple? Even as a kid, I noticed that nowhere in the Bible did it say it was an apple--it just described it as a fruit from a tree and apples aren't the only fruit that grow on trees and don't have a rind to peel off. I like to imagine it as a unique combination of some fruits, like a guava that tasted like a peach mixed with pomegranate, or something like that.
