I've studied this for a long time, and yet I am torn as to whether or not the Nachash in Genesis 3 is the same as Lucifer (Satan, The Adversary, who rebelled, etc.) who tempted Eve. Is it that Lucifer, HIMSELF, is a Nachash class of being or was it he, HIMSELF, who did the tempting/smooth-talking of Eve in the Garden, or is it that the Adversary/Lucifer/whatever "possessed" or somehow "coaxed" this "Serpent" (nachash) into tempting Eve. So, in essence, is it literally Satan who's doing the tempting, or is it a conspirator of Satan's who did the tempting FOR Satan? And if it's the latter, why would Lucifer do it that way, and not just do it himself? Your thoughts?

There is a reference to the snake crawling on the earth and eating the dust of the earth. Over the years this has made me ponder what this meant;well a few years ago I found out that snakes tastes small particles of dust in the air every time they flick their tongues;they take these dust particles into your body to help them identify threats food surroundings and more they store the dust like a map for future reference. So they literally eat dust.

Moschiach & nachash the hebrew words contain a numeral value of 358, messiah & serpent from these hebrew words both mean the exact same thing in gematria, messiah also means christos, what do you think you been worshipping the entire time when you we're always getting defensive over the baal sun worship christian theology made by man over nothing? The creator & our savior never associated themselves to christianity for a reason because of how it symbolized baal, the sun & the serpent, historians & bible scholars have been lying to us about everything. You're no better than satan & the evil within him if you attempt to conceal the truth about original christianity's pagan roots. You can't win against the creator with satan's christian religion you think you can by lying to everyone but you can't, you can't conceal the truth from the world with darkness. He'll judge you for your actions when you leave this world Michael. False prophets will never enter into the kingdom of the creator.

What is your view of the Nephilim? Do you agree with Heiser as well on this?
@bens7686
@bens7686 6 жыл бұрын
I have plans to tackle that subject in queue. I think the evidence for the supernaturalist interpretation is overwhelming, especially after reading Amar Annus' paper. I also found Heiser's argument compelling in Unseen Realm.
@InspiringPhilosophy
@InspiringPhilosophy 6 жыл бұрын
See, I read both his books on the issue and I was thoroughly unconvinced it is referring to supernatural beings. I take John Walton's view that they are just human rulers. Heiser never addressed my specific objections to his view or the reasons I think nothing supernatural is happening in Genesis 6:1-4. I don't think we can thrust a supernatural interpretation onto this small text unless we read it through the lens of the book of Enoch, which I believe to be a much later attempt to re-interpret this small passage. I can't see any reason to interpret Nephilim to mean anything else than 'men or renown.'
@bens7686
@bens7686 6 жыл бұрын
It's been a couple years, and my recollection of the arguments are clouded, so I will have to reassess the literature if I do a video on it. Annus discovered uncatalogued Mesopotamian inscriptions that point-blank call the Apkallu "Watchers." This is significant because Daniel 4 refers to the heavenly Watchers as קדשין--a title for the heavenly sons of God in Israelite and Ugaritic religion. Since Genesis 6 is full of Mesopotamianisms, these inscriptions would seem to therefore give us direct cultural interface. I agree that those who interpret the Old Testament with Enoch are using poor methodology, however, I think there are good arguments that the *New Testament* authors make allusions to Enoch in manners that imply *they* took the same supernaturalist interpretation of Genesis 6. For example, the Greek word translated “hell” in II Peter 2:4 is not the expected Hades but the anomalous tartarus. Bremmer notes, “Virtually all passages in which the verb (kata)tartaroo occurs refers to Greek myths which have giants contained to chains in an event similar to the Watcher interpretation of Gen. 6,” and we know first century Jews were drawing that connection (E.g. Josephus Ant. 1.73) Jan N. Bremmer, “Remember the Titans,” in The Fall of the Angels, (Netherlands: Brill, 2004), 58. I'm anticipating, however, that these arguments are old news to you, so I offer them merely as examples of why I currently land where I do on the issue.

Given that the Genesis narrative is closely tied to Mesopotamian mythology, it's not a stretch to connect the serpent of Eden (Nāḥāš - נחש‎) with the Sumerian deity Ningishzida whose symbol was that of a snake. A ruler of the underworld (the dust), he was also known as the "Lord of the Good Tree".

I really dont think so.There is little similiarity between Ningishzida and Nachas aside from the fact that they are both serpentine and associated with earthen elements;their roles could not be more different.(Lord of the good tree in Ningishzida's case is more of the fact that he was associated with vegetation) It is more reasonable to infer that both near east cultures venerated serpents as divine or semi-divine beings

Phenomenal video. I have really been enjoying your intense treatment of the Hebrew and the Ancient Culture. I'm currently a Biblical Studies student in Seminary and you're driving me in the direction of an Old Testament Studies Ph.D. I do have a question for you though, how do you treat the beginning of Job then if the rebellion of Lucifer was in the Garden (if that is indeed what you are arguing)? In Job, the Accuser is still allowed access to the throne room with the Sons of God, yet Job, though written earlier than Genesis, came Chronologically later than Adam (barring a pre-adamic creation and humanity).

the dust thing is really interesting. I had been kicking around this idea, i had been listening to the bible project and some stuff like this came up, and i had in my head the thought that maybe he wasn't cast to his belly because he lost his feet, but if he was angelic than maybe he lost his wings. but this idea that the dust is attatched to the idea of the underworld is actually way more illuminating. this makes alot of sense, really fascinating.

I also dug around and found that serpent had the different meanings in Hebrew, one being divination. Definition of divination can mean "teacher of forbidden knowledge". And thats why I concluded it was used as serpent. I also did some studying and it seems to me that all men and women from beginning to end of time was as one in Adam. before God placed Adam in the Garden he told him to be fruitful and multiply, and it was so. This was before the seperation of eve as well. Meaning we all made the decision together as mankind to learn the knowledge of good and evil, Adam being all men and Eve all women together as one. Giving us all full accountability for our knowledge and punishment in this life. (Dying). Ive never heard this preached by anyone either. I read Genesis so many times b4 without understanding it the way I began to during that study in a camper that day alone. Tell me what u think about that.

Jesse Clinton God told the sixth day creation to be fruitful and multiply. That’s all the races. Seventh day God rests. Eighth day He makes Adam. Then , later Eve. He does not tell them to be fruitful. He tests them. If they would of passed the test, God would have overshadowed Eve with His Spirit and Christ would of come through her and then eventually go be the savior to the sixth day creation. But Eve had sex with Satan, for he wanted to taint the seed, knowing Christ was to come through the genealogy of Adam. So, Gods backup plan was to follow the seed of Adam ( the tribe of Judah) and when an obedient couple came, overshadow her.( Mary and Joseph) they both are from the tribe of Judah. Hope this helped. Reread Genesis one and two. Peace be with you

Well done! I also made some studies on the subject, except that I don't have any book written. First: lucifer it is not the name of anything like what we know as being Lucifer (the archangel, or cereb/Cherubim). Heilel ben Shahar (in short - the morning star), in the literal context of Isaiah, it refers to the king of Babylon. But lucifer is just a word, a calling (I think you should have make it clear), a Latin translation of the word heilel. Heilel ben Shahar can be translated in a few ways (we exclude the meaning of the word lucifer - light bringer). "Heilel" can be "helel" and "shahar" cand be "saharon". Heilel - refers to a bright/shining star. Helel - to shine, also to boast. Shahar - dawn, morning, east (can refer to the crescent moon). Saharon - moon or crescent moon. So, "Heilel ben Shahar" - Shining star son of Dawn or simply a shining star and the crescent moon (removing the word "son"/ben). Now. If you read "The Epics of Baal", you will find that it can very well be what it's written in Isaiah (Heilel ben Shahar is Baal)(star and crescent being the symbol of Ba'al). The other thing that I have find about "Cherubim"(kerubhim) or singular Cherub(kerubh): Caleb/Kaleb (used as a name) or keleb The Bible's common word for dog. Also, insn't it "keleb" the same with Cerberus/Kerberos? (this may very well be far-fetched)

One of the subjects I love to study is ancient religion/mythology....I appreciate your research... this was very informative....I would like to add that we must understand that way before the scroll of Genesis was written,God in feminine form and the serpent were very popular symbols of religious belief....in some cultures,these ideas were also connected....I believe that the author of Genesis was directly trying to discredit these older beliefs...some of which originated in Egypt and other African cultures..

The Serpent was a Pharaoh... his mythological form was a wink at the Uraeus (rearing serpent) on the Pharaonic crown. Seraphim is an anagramn for Ph-r-s of Am(un). I believe that approximately translates to "The highest house of Amun". "House" = royal heiress

The Bible says he is the evil one. Why the world is like it is - this present evil age - with the knowledge of good and evil. I long for the new heavens and new earth - or the renewed earth. The new earth the home of righteousness. No more sin, rebellion and corruption. To have glorified bodies putting on incorruption. The earth covered with God’s glory.

the egyptian word srf you have in 2:36 is actually warmth, inflamation, fever (Faulkner: Middle Egyptian Concise Dictionary). Serpent can be written in different other ways: hfAw, naw, Ddft, fnT, rkrk, sA-tA (son of the soil).

feathers and scales are just different modifications of the same anatomical feature ..hood of a cobra was also referred to as wings. serpent vs seraphim is comparable to naga vs Garuda

Great video although I believe Gen 3:15 says "He will 'crush' your head", not "bruise" it.

Excellent. I was reading the vision of the creatures Ezekiel saw around GOD’s throne. In my SPIRIT I could see these creatures were some sort of divine, powerful, serpent like beings, but I was too afraid to verbalize it. Thank you for this video.

Ezekiel 28 and Isaiah 14 are talking about Adam and the Seraph who tempted him simultaneously. They’re both guilty of the same sin, it just manifested differently. They both have to participate in the rehabilitation process. It’s like a parent catching two sons in the act while they’re doing something they shouldn’t, and you as the parent have to devise a method for them both to atone.

Almost right. My guess is the serpent could both walk and maybe fly and then was cursed to it's belly... but it's a guess.

I missed the connection with the day star from 1 Enoch to the serpent in Genesis 3:1… Most scholars do not connect these two entities.

The word you explain in egyptian at 2:33 is srf, it means, according to Faulkner dictionary: Warmth, temperature, fever, imflamation or mood. I can't find it meaning serpent, for which are other words like Djedefet, Hefaw, Aker, Sa-Ta...

I agree with basically everything in this video. But I also believe that all of the Beast of the Field created in Genesis 2 as potential mates for Adam are similar Sapient Angelic beings and that only Genesis 1 described the creation of normal Animals. And this this ancient understanding of Genesis 2 and 3 is where the Lilith mythology originally came from.
