Usually what I do when I adjust the steady rest on our WFL is mounting 2 Indicators on the Head, one in X-direction, one in Y. Then setting zero close to the jaws (after confirming the runout), measuring the diameter near the jaws and again near the steady rest and adjusting both directions at the same time. so you don't have to re-check over and over again, like you show in the video. Because after you tightening these big bolts it will move on you again.

Video idea: Because you love to tell us sometimes, that the indicator is not affected by gravity and is really stable, how about a test. Test 1: Zero the indicator on a part, move the indicator away, turn the spindle on, (The spindle of where the indicator is in and only about 50rpm, don't know what a good number is, but nothing crazy) and move to indicator again to the same location. Would be interesting, if the indicator moved a bit on the reading. Test 2: Make the arm of the indicator long and zero it under the part. Leaf it for maybe 20 Minutes and see, how much it changed. And if Test 1 and Test 2 didn't changed anything, you can make the arm long and turn the spindle on for the final test. I would love to see this test. Sidenote: I was in machining for 7 years, but currently doing something different.

@@EdgePrecision for the center of the c axis of rotation for programming 4 axis, multiple sides of a pallet from one origin point would really speed up a lot of our setup time
@EdgePrecision
@EdgePrecision Жыл бұрын
@@coltonmenconi396 Every horizontal mill I have run. The Y axis is the vertical axis. The X goes side to side parallel to the pallet and the Z is toward the pallet. The rotary axis is a B axis. To find the center of rotation of the B axis in the Z direction. Clamp something roughly centered on the pallet. Take a face mill and skim a cut at B zero. Move the cutter in the X or Y axis out of the way. NOT moving the Z axis. Now rotate the B axis to 180.0. Take a skim cut with the face mill on that side. No mic the thickness and divide that in half. Now add the machine location and the tools length offset to that. That is the center of rotation in the Z axis from zero return. If you already have a tombstone on the pallet you can use it to determine your center of rotation in a similar way by measuring it’s width. It’s even easer if you have a spindle probe. With it you don’t have to cut anything. First probe the tombstone in the X axis At B zero. Then at B 180.0 to determine if it’s on center. Then probe the appropriate face once you have determined it’s distance from the center of rotation. The add that to the distance you determined for the face. That’s the center of rotation of the B axis in Z.

Hi Peter! Do you inspect your measuring tools after certain time intervals, or do you do it when you feel like something is wrong with a tool? Thank you so much for your videos! Edit: spelling
@Juxtaposed1Nmotion

Unless you just took the tool out of the box, you better be checking your tooling EVERY SINGLE TIME before it touches any material or tool probe *and after running. Just do it. It won't hurt, and it will hurt, your wallet, or your bosses, every time you; "forgot to check the tool" aka "neglected to do my job as the operator at the machine". edit: *

@EdgePrecision

Having no experience with that camera or really any 360 cameras except this one, a little, I cant say. I originally purchased this to take with me to Mexico. This is where I really intended to use this camera. But after I got it and saw the way it works. I could see a few applications for my videos on the machines. I did watch a few videos on the 360 fly 4K camera. To begin (This is not a criticism of the camera because I don't know how it is.) just on the difference that these videos showed. It doesn't take full 360 video. For my original intended use it's form factor is not as good. But all that aside it's the combination of the Insta360 camera and their phone and computer software applications way outweigh, at least for me the choice between these two cameras.

One of the important things to be careful with when using a double-sided 360 camera like this is where you have the mid plane sandwiched by the two cameras with respect to what is being filmed because of where the computational "stitching" occurs in the overlap of the two camera systems. Avoid having this plane coincide with where you do NOT want these visible stitching artifacts to occur.
@johncarey9149
@johncarey9149 Жыл бұрын
When you say "artefacts", were you meaning the distortions when the camera moved? If so they were a little distracting, so I hope they are something that can be avoided with a bit of experimentation ... 🙂

@@johncarey9149 Beginning @ 1:01 , behind his head on the wall, notice the white roll hanging on a red handle of a circuit box along with something posted on the grey door. By time it gets to 1:18 , there is a vertical ghosting the imagery on either side of his head where his ears are. You do not see that above or below that level in the video because that is where the image processing algorithm stitches the two camera video streams together.
@EdgePrecision
@EdgePrecision Жыл бұрын
It is possible with their software to pick a frame and have the stitching recalculated to improve it (I haven't tried this yet). Also you may have noticed if you or the subject are close to the camera the stitching fails. You can see this in the first sequence in the tool changer. The camera was close to the tool it was mounted on. So it squashed it out of round. It kind of looks football shaped. When the tool gets into the machine the exposure is different for the lens facing the lights. So you can see the stitch line there as well. Also in the video the collet chucks nut is distorted and has ghosting around it. Things like that. It works better if the subject is farther away and not in the overlap of the two cameras (If possible. That said it still does an amazing job. I have just started with this and the software. It wont be good for everything but it's just another tool. I really purchased this camera to take to Mexico this October. But after I thought about how it could be used for these videos.
@phialsquiz
@phialsquiz Жыл бұрын
@@EdgePrecision He do mean a minimum 2 Feet safety distance for X3 camera to film close up objects. When objects too close to the stitch line, the dual Len would have a stitching errors at the seam line. Effects like you point a finger at the middle of you two eyes, when your fingers getting too close. You get the cross eye effect blur...😅
@EdgePrecision
@EdgePrecision Жыл бұрын
@@phialsquiz The two cameras actually take more than 180 degree view. So the software has to kind of interpret what is there. but the lenses are the thickness of the camera apart. So a little away it can make a good picture. But up close it has a little difficulty. This is why it can hide the selfy stick because it is around the width of the camera. But if you notice in peoples videos it distorts there hand holding it. In their software there are stitch setting for different things. Like the underwater case or lens protectors. I think you could get closer than two feet and be reasonably good. I haven't experimented with it yet. But on KZfaq some of the videos show what happens when you get close to the stitch line.

They use a process called gun drilling. I actually have some videos on this. I do gun drilling (Or use gun drills) quite a bit on my machines. I have one video that shows how I sharpen them.
