MacOS version 12.3 is Monterey.
Download an older version of GarageBand?
The current version requires macOS 12.3 or later, but you can download the last compatible version.
In this video I will show you how to download the top free app on the Apple store GarageBand on an old mac using macOS High Sierra.
GarageBand 10.3.5 is compatible with my 2010 MacBook using macOS High Sierra 10.13.6
The newest version is GarageBand 10.4.7
The newest macOS is Ventura 13.0.1 (22A400)

Perfect for me. You definitely earned my sub with this one. I have an old iMac running MacOS High Sierra and I want to use it for recording. previous to this I was told I would have to upgrade to the newer OS by using a patcher and then possibly losing Wifi and some functionality. Did you uninstall the old GB version from your white Macbook before you downloaded the newer version? My problem is I had GB on my 2012 Macbook and recently upgraded to Carolina and now my GB doesn't work and when I try to "update" GB via apple store I get the error you are talking about. Thanks!

Unfortunately this work-around won't solve the issue for me as I never purchased/downloaded GarageBand from the App Store via MacOS. It was preinstalled on my 2011 computer when I bought it. I only purchased a later iOS version for my iPad - however, the iOS purchases don't show up when I log into my App store account from a desktop computer. It says "No purchases", so I do not get any download version at all. Is there any way I can still download a working older version somehow?

Your workaround is finding a friend with a newer OS, download GB to theirs and then have them go to previously purchased, put in their PW on your computer, download and their you go

This is FANTASTIC. THANK YOU. I subscribed and liked….. i used the same process on an IPAD that used to have garage band on it but when I handed the ipad to my wife it said it cannot download gb as it needed an iPad version no 17 although the latest iPad versions just reached 16….. all stupid methods used by apple. No wonder they have to have so many so called bug fixes

Garageband requires macOS Version 12.3 or newer. That means at least monterey. You can Check which macbook generation can run Monterey or ventura (ventura is the newest)

This works to install the older version of Garageband, but at least on my system Garageband won't work. It starts, but it won't open any .band files nor will it give me the project window.

Not the latest, Monterrey should do it, ask a friend to let you sign in, download the software and that's it.

Hey Einstein you don't need to buy a new one, just login to a newer one with your Apple ID, if you don't like this solution you can always donate your old mac to The Salvation Army.

Apple quiere q te compres una nueva mac por eso a las mac viejas ya no les da soporte, lo que muestro en el video es un truco que sirve si es q tienes acceso a otra mac con un macOS mas nuevo, si no lo puedes hacer no hay mas nada que hacer, lo q no te haz dado cuenta es de la cantidad de gente que ne agradece por hacer el video, en cambio tu lo que haces es quejarte. Hacer estos videos toma tiempo y esfuerzo. Piensa en eso antes de hacer un comentario negativo.

@@SuAmigoAlex No me malinterprete pero estaba buscando una solución sin tener que hacer precisamente eso, y hay miles sino millones de videos explicando lo mismo y muy pocos con la solución sin pasar por disponer de un mac de nueva generación, creo que antes de hacer un video que ya han hecho miles de personas antes habría que pensarlo.
