Thanks for this video, and how to get around this issue which has been doing my head in for a while now not being able to use garageband on the older Mac I’ve had to go back to resort to using through hard times!! For these issues I have just ended up using GB on my iPhone which has its limitations but I’m happy with the results I manage to achieve, having used GB, Logic & Cubase since the early 1990’s so have a wealth of experience which helps me to navigate problems you sometimes think aren’t possible using iPhone but more often than not I find a way to achieve the result I’m looking for. This also makes you a better music producer in my opinion. Cheers appreciate your knowledge and help. Thanks Steve

Hi,can someone help me?I need to know,if there is some way how to do midi sync between garageband and some hardware drum machine (Akai MPC One).I need to have Garageband as a master or a slave.Many thanks😉.

We have family sharing activated and I found garageband under my brothers profile who runs a newer Mac OS and had no problem installing it.

I guess this is a good work around but do you think they are making it more difficult in order to force you into logic? I’m still in GarageBand simply because it’s free but I may have to go to logic at some point.

Market incentive by Apple for users to upgrade or think they need to upgrade instead of using the tips you’ve provided to d/l and use GB and other apps on their older Macs. I’ve been using a 2015 MacBook Air without problems and still have no need to upgrade to a newer Mac.

I have a MacBook Pro from 2009 and wanted a newer version of GarageBand. Latest OS version that is supported voor my Mac was 10.10 (Yosemite). I've managed to install Catalina using Dosdudes Catalinapatcher, but I didn't had my Apple Id connected with GarageBand, so I couldn't download GarageBand. Then I used the OpenCore Legacy Patcher to install Ventura. The are some major issues installing Ventura on a 2009 Macbook, since USB1 was no longer supported but with the use of a USB Hub, I could connect Mouse and keyboard and was able to download GarageBand. After that I've reinstalled Catalina and was able to download Garagaband again. It works pretty well, but when I want to playback sound via my audio interface, after a while, there's a sort of chopping noise coming through. I can workaround it, but I do consider buying a newer Macbook.

I’ve used OCLP on a few mid 2012 mbp and GarageBand won’t run due to graphic acceleration from the os being emulated

I had a Mac back in 2010-2012(ish) and I LOVED the old version of Garage Band (it had a pre-set of ‘live performance’) when singing, when I’ve used mums new Mac, I have found the updated version to be way more technical than my head enjoys. So my query is, if I get a new Mac, can I somehow download a VERY VERY old version?

Is there a way to delete an old project from GB , every time I open GB it brings up the last project , I deleted GB and installed a new GB ,but an old project still comes up , cheers

I have an older IPad and tried to install Garageband from the app store. I was of course told I needed the newest OS but I never saw the dialogue box that asks if I want an older version of Garageband. Maybe Apple has found another way to screw us.

No, unless you can find a really old version of the iLife install CD.

Unfortunately I'm still rocking a 2011 MBP, running Big Sur with OCLP but I doubt it can handle Ventura, was hoping there might have been another way :p
