@@Ja.KooLit i had followed another guide previously where someone said installing linux+linux-lts was fine, so i just added both. Then i didn't add headers for both or something, so initcpio couldn't use the nvidia modules. I ended up just removing linux-lts with pacman and rebooting, which is fine. But i didn't know I had to grub-mkconfig before the reboot, so something in my (dual boot) grub entry was still pointing at lts so I couldn't boot anymore. I thought I'd have to reinstall which seemed a bit painful, but after a while i figured out i could just chroot from the live iso and run grub-mkconfig to make the boot work again. I also initially couldn't see my cursor on the desktop so i looked up some tweak that made it work again. Nothing was wrong with your guide I don't think and it was all a learning experience. The one thing I would've liked is more clarity in exactly what is contained in your github install scripts. I didn't know if all the nvidia configuration was done by then so I could do a plain hyprland install, or if something in your scripts is what made it work.

@@lmao4982 Thank you for detailed and honest critics About kernel, any kernel should theoritically work even with nvidia, provided that headers should be present. Downside of lts-kernel is performance, there are some benchmarks done by phoronix and for daily and gaming, zen comes on top with the hardened being the least in terms of perfornance. Id say that if for nvidia, 20 series card and older, lts kernel is ok and 30 series and most recent, should have the latest kernel to gain that small performance uplift. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m9ddpKWInqrXYp8.html start at 09:50, I have explained briefly regarding nvidia stuff. However, I will keep in mind that next time, I will discuss in detail or more explanation

What's the difference between Nvidia-dmks and Nvidia-all, and does it replace Nvidia-dmks? I'm just curious because, I always just use dmks. Good video still don't think I'll be running Wayland on Nvidia tho but it's getting better every day so maybe!

@@SuperTort0ise difference is nvidia-all is being maintained by frogging-family or TKG and with added patches. nvidia-dkms is maintained by Arch, and it ensures that nvidia modules are modprobed into kernel for drm. I observed that nvidia-all got more up to date on some occassion than nvidia-dkms Main reason being that I used nvidia-all is just ease of use and peace of mind. I noticed before that other nvidia stuff (egl-wayland, nvidia-settings nvidia-utils) get updated later on so it comes a time that nvidia-settings is not launching, sometimes black screen etc etc.. I have been using wayland on my laptop since I bought more than 2 yrs ago and I have to say, its better than before. Im still curious about desktop nvidia though. I plan to purchase a rtx 2060 in the near future if not, Ill just get 4080 but still very expensive in my country atm

I have a 2070S on KDE from what I've tried of Wayland it's good but there's a lot of little things that add up, but it's not perfect on X either stuff like HW video dec on FF(LibreWolf) is wired sometimes if I suspend it just brakes, Wayland is like that, lots of things that just don't work well enough for me, that's why I plan on getting AMD sometime.

@@SuperTort0ise yeah nvidia-linux is actually a hit and miss but I believe its getting better. Amd on the other hand is just works better in linux either x or wayland and hassle free since it is using like a universal driver. where are you located? maybe I could buy your 2070s :). I do have extra gpu (amd rx 6500xt but of course these are like comparable to 1060 based on reviews)

Hi, thx for helpful information. But what about Hyprland and switching from dgpu to integrated(only) or integrated with dgpu(on demand)? At the moment, I use only integrated_amd_GPU but some time i i want to connect to an external monitor.

it depends on your laptop. My laptop is on demand. But try to check your laptop as well. On my laptop, usb-c output is wired directly to nvidia gpu. And hdmi is at igpu. Thats why with supergfxctl (part of asusctl), by default, its on hybrid mode. Like on demand. But if I connect directly to usb-c, nvidia will take over.

Just sharing this if someone else comes across the same issue. In the config files, wlr/workspaces needs to be changed to hyprland/workspaces. otherwise it wont show up in waybar

hey.. quick question, is there a need to add that grub noveauo stuff? I noticed from other ytber, they didnt need to. However, it works though. It wont boot but adding noveau fixed some things

thanks for watching. Yeah well call it like an experience. Had issues before and blacklisting noveau just helps me alot in many ways. If you need to use the open source drivers though, probably not a good idea to black list noveau

As the op said it can't hurt to Blacklist it i also had problems without Blacklist on Nvidia hardware so I always just blacklist noveau just in case

Is Arch your daily OS? I've been 5 ~ 6 years in Debias base linux, I can do almost everything, from work to gaming. Arch is interesting.. wanna try it 😀

Previously, I have Arch as my daily and now its gentoo. For work and gaming. But I still keep my Arch as a fallback. If you browse my channel, I upload some tips for Arch and Gentoo. As well as some games that I sometimes play on both distros. I tried debian before but Ive had a kernel panic. But will try again sometime this year once they released their new version. I have issues with firefox and chromium not moving to specific workspaces when they are reopened after closing in Hyprland. I think this is an issue on my side since others don't have it. I have 21 firefox windows open and each of them are spread across 20 workspaces in BSPWM. I made 20 workspaces for Hyprland yet the issue still remains the same. There's also times that some software crashes like MATLAB and hyprland cannot open new GUI software or even ROFI. Not sure if it is my setup or nvidia itself on my optimus laptop. Have you ever faced this issue?

I think you should approach and report to Hyprland github regarding these issues in firefox and chromium. for rofi, make sure to install rofi-wayland. I dont know about matlab

perhaps have a look in your bios settings? to boot in hard drive and not usb? check in bios settings.. look for like boot priorities or boot menu...

hey, i get "module not found: nvidia nvidia_modeset, nvidia_uvm, nvidia_drm" errors at 10:15 linux-headers and everything is installed properly although i installed arch manually without the archinstall script anyone knows the solution? i've tried with both nvidia and nvidia-dkms modules, neither of the worked

you can edit the file in ~/.config/hypr/configs/exec.conf or middle click mouse the clock on waybar.. clicking the clock is only temporary. Thank for watching.

for root fs, btrfs, and game drive / storage drive ext4. Cant go wrong with btrfs snapshot functionality. There are also lots of btrfs utilities that ext4 cant match

Can u make a video on how to implement this? root as btrfs, separate home partition as ext4. And what to do to preserve the home partition when we need to re-install Arch? Will the new install create another set of home directories?

@@TangDynasty1983 I can but with a manual instalation. However, it is much better if you just need to assign a home subvolume and have a separate "data" partition for a documents, games, etc. Its what I did on my systems. Because for reinstalling, it is much better to have a clear home as there lots of configs in home folder which, it can either conflict with some apps. There are also lots of junks in home folder.

basically none... they all act as boot loader. I am just used with grub because I know where to find the settings, I know how I insert kernel parameters, pls I can "decorate" grub :)

@@Ja.KooLit ah, i tried to find the settings for systemd, thought i found them, but when i launch hyprland it's just a bunch of horizontal lines, so i probably messed something up (idk grub just doesn't work for me in dual boot and i couldn't figure out why)

@@Ja.KooLit thing is, when i install with grub, it first doesn't boot into grub, then when I launch the efi file it just reboots a few seconds after getting into the os

@NotANut have you tried changing the boot settings from bios? To boot first from Arch instead? yeah on my experience, it doesnt always boot into grub. But changing the bios settings boot priority should fix that... and then you can add windows into the grub

Please help, stuck here since 2 days. I am trying to do the archinstall in qemu kvm, and mkinitcpio always throws an error with cannot write block : No space left on device even though partitioning looks alright.

your boot partition might be full. If you have two kernels installed, remove the other kernel first. If you did not install 2 kernels, check your /boot partition. You might have some other files in there which shouldnt be there.. Let me know

@@Ja.KooLit I am trying to use either linux or linux-lts for the headers and also the kernel itself. As I saw, the module not found problem comes from the header and the kernel misalignment. I fixed that issue but still. on archinstall /boot is 200mb partitioned but when we try to add modules to it, there is no space left inside the /boot.

I installed the nvidia driver before then I used your script and when I logged in I didn't see any option for gnome x wayland or hyprland I think it's because of the nvidia driver

hello thank you for watching... you can edit the hyprland.conf file located in ~/.config/hypr/ it should be in line 21.... kb_layout=us change us to es? or better just add es finally should look like this kb_layout=us,es Im working on improving my script to address the change of keyboard layout during installation. thanks. Because my laptop has no mux switch and I cant disable igpu in bios. and its like on demand. And set to to ran in Hybrid mode means, in high demanding times like gaming, nvidia will take over
