This week we install the “ stealth, hideaway, hidden tailgate latches. Tools explanation and concerns for install. These universal latches could easily be installed into finished project. Or other types and models. DIY. No welding required.

I have had these stealth tailgate latches for a while meant for my 1946 Chevy Pickup restomod. I was holding off as I regularly have trouble setting blind holes. 95% of the time I WILL screw it up. Your vid reminded me of the proper way to transfer those blind holes giving yourself the best shot at getting it right . Thanks so much for reminding me of the compass/scribe technique I kinda knew. But I only do this sort of fab a few times per year. I forgot how to get those blind holes drilled.

Turns out my bed sides on the 46 Chevy have spread a tad and there is a tailgate tube recess so spring loaded bolts don’t go far enough out to latch. I’ll fab something up, but any ideas?

Yes that’s the tricky part with having something to hold it open. They do make some options for hiding the straps or arms. Worth taking a look

I did the same latches on my 1948 Chevy 3100 show truck ,you made that look simpler than it is. I used Chevy full size blazer rear tail gate cables to hold the tail gate.

That’s a great idea. I have some nylon limit straps made for that. I’d love to see how you mounted them.
