How do you mount the rough-in valve below the subfloor?
@eltonnoway7864
@eltonnoway7864 10 ай бұрын
The valve shown in this video is designed to be mounted on a platform that gets installed below the subfloor The platform (usually a piece of wood mounted between two floor joists ) When mounted and on the secured platform, the top edge of the valve assembly needs to be flush with the top edge of the finished floor. Make sure you account for the thickness of your tile as well as the thinset, any underlayment and or waterproofing membrane. The valve shown in this video is not designed nor intended for installation directly on a slab. Granted, you could cut out a section of the slab to recess the valve but unless you have access to waterlines in or below the slab you're out of luck. FYI: Although not the same make or model valve shown in this video you can get an idea of how it gets installed by checking out this other youtube video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/erlgareW3tqwn4k.html

More importantly, there is no way to catch leaks from inside without looking up from bottom.

Sure, but how do you get the water connected to the brass fitting without having pipes sticking up out of the floor?

Was wondering the same thing and the video does not show the water line connections or how the concealed box plate is installed and secured to flooring. After looking at box plate for floor water connections further, my guess is the concealed box plate is secured to a reinforced piece of wood, which is installed between your joists, under the subfloor, which may require removing part of the sub floor for access. So, I would then guess you position the reinforced piece at proper distance from top of projected finished floor. This would allow water suppy to run under floor and not on top of floor. You would have to make sure that only the top of the concealed box plate is showing and even with the top of your finished floor. I don't think the provided box is secured to top of finished floor but to the reinforced piece of wood underneath, making sure that screw on water supply connections extend over the sides of the board, so you would be able to get a wrench on your connections. This shouldn't be too difficult if done before laying tile but if floor is already finished, would require quite a bit of retro work. Hope that box plate is tall enough to clear the necessary distance that would be required to do this. Landon Bath should have included video instructions for the box plate install, to avoid confusion.

@@TwoTracksOutdoors I agree. What's shown in the video is pretty, but not nearly as useful as a dimensioned diagram showing how far below the finished floor the mounting plate needs to be positioned, and recommendations on constructing the framing the mounting plate will attach to. The long filler standpipe acts as a terrific multiplier to a lateral force applied to the faucet controls and will generate large vertical forces on the mounting screws on the opposite side (think 3' pry bar).

@@TwoTracksOutdoors that's my question, wish they had time to reply :-/ .... It appears that you are correct in stating "After looking at box plate for floor water connections further, my guess is the concealed box plate is secured to a reinforced" etc. etc. I'm thinking the Brass Tub Filler Valve goes under the flooring, in the crawl space being you can buy a dust cover for same. From the video, there is no way to connect the water lines above the subflooring aka plywood.

thanks for your comment, yes, our rough-in valve should be installed under the ground, it needs to be installed before tile fixing.

@@TwoTracksOutdoors Hi Mike, thanks for your comment, yes, your description is very clear, we will update the video to show how to install it completely. This rough-in valve was designed to install under the ground, it needs to be installed before tile fixing. Appreciate for your advice again!

This is a great tub filler and video but this video DOES NOT really show how to install it. More accurately stated the title of this video should have been: How to Assemble the freestanding tub filler. The trickiest part of the entire installation of this tub filler is the installation of the "valve body" (i.e., valve floor anchor with leveler bubble )shown at 1:28. This particular tub filler design is not intended for installation directly on the floor or on a concrete slab but is actually designed to be mounted "below" the surface of the floor. NOTE: This becomes more evident at 3:02 in the video when the demonstrator slides the escutcheon plate down and it “does not” go down flush to the table top. This is because the overall height of the valve body is taller the escutcheon plate . NET: To be exact, to install the valve body, you either need access from below or will need to remove a section of floor from above. At a minimum the installer needs to drill a 2-9/16" (65mm) dia. in the floor so the top surface of the valve with the bubble level, can protrude thru the floor and be made flush with your floor surface. This is accomplished by securing the valve body to a mounting platform that is installed / mounted 2.3" (58MM) below top surface of your floor. The platform (not supplied as part of the kit) needs to be mocked up on site (usually from scrap lumber) by the installer. Depending on your subfloor and the framing and/or spacing of your floor joists, the mounting platform is typically installed between two joists. Once properly installed, from the surface of the platform to floor top edge of the valve body needs to be 2.3 inches (58MM). FYI: As an alternative to installing the valve from below the installer can elect to simply remove a section of floor, and do the entire installation from above i.e. building the platform, run the water lines etc… then close up the removed section of floor with the exception of leaving a 2-9/16" (65mm) dia hole for the valve to protrude. TIP: Although not the same make or model of tub filler valve you can get a good idea of the platform mounting process by searching youtube for the video titled: KOHLER- Multi faucet mounting block 97339 - NA

Great, but that doesn't explain how to mount the rough-in fixture to a concrete floor.

The rough in valve shown in this video is for installation below a sub floor, ideally with access from below. Although not the same brand or model, to get an idea of how it would be mounted check out this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/erlgareW3tqwn4k.html Mounting a tub filler on concrete can be more of a challenge since you would have to trench the concrete for the water lines. In any event this other video gives an idea of how they get installed on a slab - kzfaq.infoyaL2UwtEvWA
