Nice Garage! I'm building a 40x50x12 and I'm thinking about getting the same 2 Mr.Cool units like you have, so this is a great video. Thank you, Sir 4 posting it. Can I ask what kind of fans those are where you got them from and how Efficient are they pushing air around you shop?

@pucegtr thanks ! They are Hampton bay industrial 60" from homedepot. They move air really well . With them on low you can feel a gentle breeze all over the shop with them on high They are like a gust of wind moving dust and anything light weight around. And they are very quiet, I really like them and would definitely buy them again. Here's a link to them if it will work ... www.homedepot.com/p/Hampton-Bay-Industrial-60-in-Indoor-Outdoor-White-Ceiling-Fan-with-Wall-Control-Downrod-and-Powerful-Reversible-Motor-52860/204507386

Can you give an update video of how well the units are working? Electricity bill impact and anything else you wanna speak of. My dad is telling me they won’t work for my 30 by 60 shop

I might do another video in a few months on them , but they have been working great for me so far in my 40x60x16 . In the coldest months with the Temps in the teens and 20s at night and highs in the upper 30s I left both units set around 68-70 for the whole month and the bill was around 430 that month but we were also doing a lot of welding and grinding that month also . In the warmer months I have kept them at 72 and the highest bill it was like 280 . I will say when it was below freezing they would randomly frost up but quickly defrost on their own but otherwise they have been doing great. I know that's not the most accurate info but hope that helps a little. Also just to give you an idea of weather in my area I'm virginia halfway between DC an Richmond

If your shop is very well insulated, you can cool with a window air conditioner and a space heater. There are formulas and calculations to determine the appropriate size unit you would need. If the unit is too small it will consume a lot of power trying to do its job. It is better to spend more on insulation than spending a ton of money on an oversized or undersized system. I have seen homes that need very little to maintain temperature. Every one of those homes has been very well insulated and or had a lot of thermal density.

@hillbilly4christ638 very true! My shop is insulated with r19 and r13 but very far from well insulated especially because it's smashed flat at every wall girt and roof perli so the r-value in those areas is very low

Did you consider a dual zone mini split? Im wondering if a 36K dual zone be better or worse?

I actually had considered it at one point with doing one or two 2 zone units like 2 heads on the side wall where my 2 units are now and doing another on the back wall with a big head downstairs and a small one upstairs in the office but just wasn't sure exactly how I was finishing out everything and also didn't want to spend the extra that the multi zone cost plus I would have needed longer lineset extension for them so even more cost so I settled for these but so far I have been happy with them and they do good heating and cooling the shop .

pro tip: leave the fans on auto and do us all a favor and remove those cheap plastic pads. get you a 3x3 concrete pad for both.

Yeah I keep the fans on auto I just don't set the mode to auto I just pick either heating or cooling. The plastic ones will do fine for a while , if they start to get brittle from the sun then ill think about putting concrete under them . Thanks for watching.

nice video! i just installed a multi zone 27k unit. i noticed my condenser has the same “hizzin/wind” as yours. Manual states low hizzing noise is normal but have you had any issue? do both units have same sound?

Thanks! yes, both of mine sound the same and so far are still running trouble-free . So far im still very happy with them , my only complaint is the app and for the most part that was ok too but because I was using the remotes in the center of the room on fallow me to better balance the temperature from one side of the shop to the other , once i started using the app it was using tge temp at the unit instead of the remote and in turn was keeping the far side of the shop much colder in the winter by like 6+ degrees so i stopped using the app and just went back to the remotes but now i cant turn them on or off unless im in the shop but .... Thanks for watching!

thats good! yes i did notice the App and Remote counter each other. ill just use the App, but i did notice the app temp reading is identical to my nest thermostat so ill stick to that! i ran mine all last night and woke up to an icebox! it was just the sound that had me worried but i have seen a few videos with similar sound on larger than 24k units.

How did you frame the second air handler? Not the one by the stairs but the other one. It looks like the wall extension part is just floating there. I want to mount my air handler in the same spot but don't want to put up walls like you did. I just want to frame enough to mount the air handler. Thanks, and great video.

I wish I had a picture of it before I put the plywood up, but I just framed up a mini wall from 2x4s that I bolted down through the wall girt into the lower wall and I overlapped the plywood down onto the lower wall just to help tie it in better. If you weren't doing a lower wall like mine you could still screw the plywood into the face of the wall girt and maybe add a 2x4 under the wall girt to bolt through and sandwich the girt and extend the plywood to the bottom of that just to stiffen it up more and maybe if need be put 2 diagonal braces from the top back , down towards the back of the wall girt just to help stabilize it a little more but that's probably not necessary as mine didn't have that and you cannot shake that top section. Sorry, that's probably not the best description, but I hope that helps a little. Thanks for watching, and let me know if I can help clear that up anymore
