@fdr1516 you know after thinking about it more I lied I used a mix of leftover screws to attach the wood to the red iron and yes I predrilled the steel for the screws to go through and into the wood but I forgot I also used some leftover Simpson strong drive #9 x 2.5 or 3" long screws ( joist hanger screws ) to go through the steel , through the top plate and into the studs and I think I did at least one of those screws at every 3rd stud plus the shorter screws into the top plate randomly . Sorry for the misinformation earlier, it had been a while so I forgot

The trim rings are from wheel vintiques they are the 15" hot rod smooth trim rings sku # 3005-15-1 hope that helps. And thanks for watching! 40x60 space goes quick once you add an office space. I have 5 cars and a small tractor and mower I need to put in. What size should I go?
@kenschopshop
@kenschopshop 8 күн бұрын
Man that's a tough question, but yeah the office and mezzanine definitely eats up some useable floor space for vehicles but for me it added that upstairs space and gave me a nice "workshop" type space for benches and tools . As for the rest of my space I feel I could comfortably work on 3 vehicles at one time as long as they weren't getting completely blown apart bur if I was just trying to store cars in the garage like say in case of a storm of going out of town for a while I could probably squeeze 8 midsized cars/trucks if I put one on the lift and one under , probably wouldn't be much room for anything else but as is I could easily put 5-6 vehicles in mine for the night with minimal cleaning or moving stuff. My suggestion is build the biggest you can afford or your area will allow you to build.... like technically mine is just under the maximum sqft my county would allow........ that said I plan to later cover the side parking area that's 30x60 to the left of my shop with a lean-to then close it in later to almost double my closed in sqft but that will be years down the road . Good luck on your shop and hit me up if I can answer anything else and thanks again for watching!

@@kenschopshop Thanks man. This is my first time doing something like this and just put in the order for the building last week. Mine is a 40x60 with an overhang so there will be a little extra cost for the concrete there. My problem is im trying to estimate everything by googling costs which never works. At least now im in the ballpark of expectations. I made a deal with my buddy (AC contractor) to help with the electrical stuff and he will get a bay to store/work on his hot rod. Plus it puts eyes on the project when im not around.

I'm considering buying this model but wondered how much room you have to open the doors on the vehicles compared to a true asymmetrical lift where the posts are rotated 30 degrees. My other Bendpak lifts ( XPR-10AS) have been discontinued. I know it makes sense for a company to only have to manufacture one set of uprights, but I think on the consumer side there will be less clearance to open the doors. Even when set up "asymmetrically" with their bent front arm, I wonder how much room you have to open the door to work or at least get in/out. Thanks for the video!
@kenschopshop
@kenschopshop 15 күн бұрын
@atomautowerks2172 I have my 94 gmc 1500 standard cab short bed on the lift right now and I can open its door almost all the way . And the steering wheel is at the back of the post and the back of the door mirror is forward of thr front of the post if that makes sense. All the normal vehicles I have had on it so far I had no problems opening the doors but I did have an astro van on the lift and that was a little tighter hut because the back of the door was inline with the post . I do have the lift setup in the wide configuration also . Hope that helps some . Thanks for watching!

Hey Ken appreciate your videos I have the exact same shop and I've actually been copying some of the things you've done because they've been great ideas.... question your loft is 10 ft tall and does it come out 10 ft from the back wall because when I measure out to my first structural pillar that's 20 ft and that just seems too big for a loft and it takes up too much of the open area so also besides the height and depth of the Loft would you change the size of it for any reason it seems like 20 ft would just be too deep and take up too much of that big open space especially if you're going to put in a car lift and stuff like that and because of you I found out I could put the black insulation in the roof and I did that and I like it it's really neat looking now

Hey Joe, thanks ! My loft is actually 12' off the back wall, and the floor height is 10' . Yeah, I originally thought I'd want it 20' also, but I'm glad I went with the 12' . I'm actually really happy with the layout of mine as is . I had thought maybe I should have gone with 9' floor to give more height upstairs but as it is now the my toolbox open I still have room between the lid and ceiling fan above it so again glad I did stick to the 10' floor . It's awesome that you went with the black insulation. Everyone seems to like it in mine when they see it in person, too . I actually had considered it at one point with doing one or two 2 zone units like 2 heads on the side wall where my 2 units are now and doing another on the back wall with a big head downstairs and a small one upstairs in the office but just wasn't sure exactly how I was finishing out everything and also didn't want to spend the extra that the multi zone cost plus I would have needed longer lineset extension for them so even more cost so I settled for these but so far I have been happy with them and they do good heating and cooling the shop .

Thx for sharing your build and costs. I just finished my 24x32x10 with 8/12 pitch scissor trusses to allow my lift. It's stick built by me. Insulated R15 walls, R30 ceiling, OSB walls, 24k mini split, 9k lift came in at just under $44k. 5" 3500# monolithic slab was $10.5k and I hired the sheeted and architectural shingled roof for $6800. I did use lifetime guarantee Sherwin Williams paint. 15 gal for $1,200 on sale @ 30% off. Yes. HD paint only would have cost 1/3 as much, but it took 4 coats to cover the wooden carriage doors,10x9, and they don't look as good as the 2 coats of SW on the rest of the shop! Will have to go back and watch the playlist. THX, again!

Happy to answer, so my wall height of my building is 16' . Under the beams it a little shorter . Most average car lifts require about a 12' ceiling height as a minimum but my lift is actually 13'1" . My mezzanine floor height is 10' so the ceiling under it is about 9'1" . The office ceiling I think is right around 7' if I remember correctly and the bathroom ceiling slopes down with the roof . The storage loft above the office is like 4' tall at the front and 18" tall at its lowest point 10' back so that floor space there is like 10x11'4" . Thanks for watching and thank you ! If you have any other questions just let me know I'll try my best to answer or better explain

How deep is the rock in the far corner? Does the rock depth vary? On the mezzanine...reason you preferred osb over sheet rock? Definitely interested in the long version of cost breakdown and the concrete sealer info. Thank you!!

Thanks for watching! It was about a 4' drop to the far back right corner. So yes, they cleared all the vegetation off and got down to undisturbed soil, then built it up with 3" recycled concrete. I did the osb just because that's what I was doing downstairs on the bottom 8' and figured it would be a little tuffer then drywall and eaiser to hang stuff on . Inside the office and bathroom will be all drywall though just to give a nicer finished look . OK cool I have been thinking about doing that longer version soon just to help better answer questions people have had . As for the concrete sealer I used is Concrete Sealers USA ps100. Sorry just now seeing your question. I can't remember which one it was now but I think it might have been that one that seemed like it was just a little too long and made it difficult to secure it so it wouldn't be in the way of anything as the lift went up like there was just a little too much slack making it bunch up instead of laying flat/straight. Help from anyone please? That's a tough call honestly , really if you have one that's in great mechanical condition and lower miles it might be worth getting it cosmetically fixed up but paint and body can definitely be expensive. Maybe get a few quotes from some local shops to see what all the repairs on yours might cost ya and then do the math to see which is the better route to take . My front windows also used to get stuck, I found replacements on Amazon and fixed them within an hour after some KZfaq vids! The door lock actuators all have to be replaced so you’re not taking each one out to figure out which one is causing the issue, cause if ones out, they’ll all go out so might as well! I did that while I was fixing the window actuator too since the panels were off, that took maybe an hour and a half but only cause I decided to do all this at the end of a Bay Area summer 😂 Super easy tho and I don’t consider myself a fixer upper of cars but I sure can fix this car! I’ve been searching all over for videos on how and what I need to do on my van to get the look I want I see all kinds of trucks bagged with big rims but I want to do it to my Astro I think it’d look sick. I just want to be prepared for what I’d be getting myself into but that’s what I want and I’m determined to make it happen

The wheels are 18x8 front with 225/35/18s and the rears are 18x9 with 235/40/18 . In the next video I'll try to show and talk about all the parts used and why to better show how we did this one . Sorry for the delay in response, I was away at a car show all weekend and couldn't remember tire sizes so waited until I got home to double check . Thanks for watching

@@kenschopshop it’s all good a car show is def a legit reason for the delay hope it was a good one. That’s the same size I have on my van now but I want to upgrade to some big boys but I appreciate seeing someone else giving a Astro the way spotlight I’ve always thought they should have to many people disregard it as a family or work van but it screams for more

@user-cn2fp2un9u yeah the owner of this one wanted 20s for it but also didn't want to cut up the front inner fenders/firewall just yet so stuck with the smaller tires on the 18s . The offset of the wheels just clear everything laid out up front without having to cut the body up front
