2/3 Axis Grating CNC Milling Digital: bit.ly/2WJ61Ht (code: BG134012, 12%off)
NEW Electronics Promotion: bit.ly/2Rflo4r
My mill has had several types of DRO's fitted over the years.
When funds were tight I added X, then Y and finally Z of the digital scales, like the ones used on digital calipers. The Z one was still in use.
A number of years ago I was give a Anilam 2 axis system removed from a Bridgeport mill. The scale were much too log but I was able to dismantle them and shorten them, including carefully cutting the glass scale. Eventually the display stopped working so I replaced it with the one shown on the video.
I spotted this 3 axis system at very low price and decided to fit it to the mill and put the 2 axis one on my lathe. Look out for a video on this installation.

Anyone who has a small benchtop mill and hasn't experienced the joy of a DRO has not lived. I have a Berardi Italian made bench top jig borer/mill and have just fitted the DRO, bought on EBAY similar to the BANGGOOD one. It took approx one week of a couple of hours a day to fit with making custom made brackets and fixings etc.......being ultra careful I dialed all the scale casings with a dial indicator to get the alignment within a few thou overall just in case any misalignment caused strife. Being my first experience using a DRO I didn't want to get a failure from slack workmanship or have to re-drill holes again. A bonus is that the mill has Imperial dials on the 3 axes but now I get to 5 Micron accuracy with all metric readouts......Imperial is for the birds.

That's a very nice mill. The only thing to make it better would be a movable spindle quill. The DRO's seem to work well also. When you are going out 5 decimal places Imp., it's stands to reason that the display is going to "float" around. That's 50 millionths of 1 inch. Any vibration is going to disturb the table location at that resolution.

i guess at that price you can't argue but it seems to be very sensitive or there might be play in the mill which is unlikely. would have been good to see how it compared with the readings from the previous unit or to see how you will improve on those drifting values since your videos are always amazing to watch.

@@myfordboy I've tried and the sellers keep sending me oversized lengths. I followed a KZfaq video that shows how to cut them and that's about it. I have a Sieg SX2LF mini milling machine at it is too small for these scales. But, because I found a way to cut them short, right now I am modifying the table scale and, it just fits after cutting it, lucky. I had to remove the table to drill the 2 holes vertically, then thread the holes and hopefully the scale will be installed in a professional way. The next one will be the Y axis scale. I will make a video also, but it isn't a video itself, it's just pictures on how to install the scales on this machine.

How does it work buying these high value items from China? Do you have to pay vat and handling to the post office?
@myfordboy
@myfordboy 5 жыл бұрын
Most items escape custom duty, even large stuff like 3 D printers. Banggood always put a lower value on the custom declaration. The odd item gets a charge, it seems pot luck. I would say 95% escape charges.

I emailed the sender and said I would not claim it and they would return it to them. I got a reply about one hour later saying they had paid £34.75 into my account so I could go and claim it. Not bad service and it's brilliant just as good as the go pro.

I would say your feeding channels are not properly sized, that your alloy flow is too turbulent (use ceramic filters for a more laminar flow) and cooling down too quickly ( flame up your sand in your sandbox before pouring) or that you over heated your alloy (causing bubbles) and pouring temp to high. May be your degassing was not complete before pouring. Hope that helps, I experienced the same issues long time ago on my first attempts.
