When I did mine, I used oversized pool noodles for my gasket and built a wooden sill plate at the floor. and silicone caulk to seal the noodles...the top noodle spanned over the entire doorway that was almost the entire length of the cab back... I cut my hole larger when I realized thew advantages of the much larger hole. The gasket seems really nice but the larger opening, with curved edges and corners was so much better than just a doorway with no door...my dog loved sitting around back there and sticking his head around the seats. Glued vinyl to cover around edges was good... every few years I would rebuild and recaulk, but that was easy

The purchased gasket looks like a very good product. I think I probably would have put the seam midpoint on the bottom and a threshold plate over it. I also like GE silicone. Nice job.

I think I would have gotten a longer drill bit. A 1/4" bit, 6" long, is only $4 or so on Amazon. It might not be contractor-grade, but if it stays sharp long enough to drill your alignment holes, it would be worth it. I have seldom been able to completely trust my own measurements, so II tend to start small and then trim to final size on projects similar to this. I know you've already done this, but for next time, or for someone else, the long bit is another possible solution, especially for folks who are not as confident in their measuring skills. You make a good example with your use of protective equipment, too. I worked on helicopters and also did some shooting, while I was in the Army. If I hadn't had earplugs, I would probably be very hard of hearing now. You did a very nice job, Bill. Thank you for your very useful videos. I don't know if I will ever convince Linda to let me do a project like this, she seems to think I'm getting too old and feeble to tackle something of this magnitude. I just turned 67 last month, but inside I still feel about 35. I'd really like to have a box truck camper like yours. All the best to you and Elizabeth.

I really like how that came out! I agree with you; an actual door that closes right there isn't really necessary, and the gasket is a great solution for that gap between the door and the cab. Your plan is really coming together! Thanks for taking us along, Bill and Elizabeth! Much love. :)

Loved it. But, 1. pop rivets instead of bolts & nuts. 2. the gasket seam would have been better on the bottom. 3. stick the gasket together with rubber adhesive (inner tube glue). 4. a threshold, so that a accidently misplaced step doesn't rip through the gasket. 5. while the back of the cab was exposed, it would have been good to screw some angle iron supports to it, to stiffen the back so it doesn't rattle. Anyways these are just some suggestions. I hope their of some help. p.s. I'm glad Elizabeth is on the mend. Keep it up. ❤
