Cessna Cardinal 2214Y is Getting a new interior! This Cessna Cardinal is long overdue for a new interior and we will being with redoing the front seats. The seats, as well as the rest of the interior, came from Aritex and it was all reasonably priced.
I will get to the costs of this later on in the program, but it wasn’t really that bad. The best part of this is that this project is something that you can do yourself. It really doesn’t require any special skills except the willingness to figure it out.
The total cost for the interior was about $3500.00. The seats were 1500 for all four. The seas came together pretty quickly, actually in about 4 days from start to finish and a lot of that time was glue and pint drying.
I got the 1968 Cessna Cardinal interior from airtex. Everything came in a few boxes, very well organized with everything I need. They have instructions that you download from their site and it couldn’t be any easier. Everything you need is included. This actually was a lot easier than I thought it would be.
Yes! I bought an airplane! This program has some initial numbers and breaks down the monthly expenses. Owning an airplane can be affordable... but the upgrades.... That is what will get me. Watch this program to find out what ownership costs.
Have you always wanted to learn how to fly but now you are over 50? Get out there and start and learn! There are so many people in there 50's and 60's who are just starting to fly so what are you waiting for?

If and when we do a new interior, the latest and greatest in sound deadening material will be a must. Thanks for sharing this! (If the Cardinal 177B we acquire needs it)

Nice job! When $$$ allows, install some 4-point inertia reel belts from BAS. You can order them in a color that matches your interior. They are a great safety enhancement, easier to use, and more comfortable than your current set up.

Great job. It looks really good. Your video reminded me how happy I am with my interior. I'm in the process of scheduling an avionics upgrade for my Mooney. I'm pretty sure I will end up with a GNC355 with some G5s. Looks like it will be months before they can fit me in though.

You may want to consider calling around to a different avionics shop and flying your shop somewhere where they can get it done quicker I know down here in Zephyrhills Florida they can probably get it done in a couple of weeks

@@Over50andLearningToFly Not sure I want to fly from Oregon to Florida this time of year :-) I'm planning on going with one of the two shops recommended by my A&P. I'm also about to hit tax season so waiting is not as bad as it sounds.

I'm thinking about doing my interior this winter. I've just done the engine, prop and avionics. The 182 has been grounded for the better part of a year. Part of me just wants to fly it for awhile before the next upgrade. This looks doable, but I'm pretty sure that my first attempt won't be that great. Decisions, decisions...

The one piece of advice I’ll give you is that do it all at once so take a couple weeks off of work or just take a couple weeks off and focus on this if I had to do it again that’s how I would do it and I would just treat it like a job and I probably can get the whole thing done inside of two weeks -I’ll tell you one thing it is very satisfying to sit in a brand new interior! Thanks for watching!

Great video, Ted! I have my Airtex interior on-order for my 177A and seeing what you had to do is very helpful. Question: How do you remove the door handles? Is there a clip behind the panel that you have to remove? Thanks!
@Over50andLearningToFly
@Over50andLearningToFly 2 жыл бұрын
The doorhandles are very tricky. I actually had my ANP do it. There is a small sea clip behind the door handle that you have to get in there with a pic and very carefully pull out the C clamp. I decided just to pay my mechanic to do it because it would’ve taken me all day and I probably would’ve destroyed something so don’t be afraid just to pay the mechanic to do it because at the end of the day it’s worth 100 bucks to have someone else do it properly. Thanks and I’m glad you liked it!

Looks nice. 1968 177A?? I thought the A started with '69 model year. BTW, I pulled headliner for spar service letter, and since it was such a PITA to remove, while it was out, I cleaned and painted, and it looks great. It was much more robust than the 53 yr old plastic side panels, which are more fragile than frozen butterfly wings...

Love the video, Ted. One question: I called AirTex about that baggage compartment bulkhead and they said they didn't make such a thing. Did you order it special or what? I'm doing my '69 177A as we speak (it's a MUCH more involved job than I thought) and would love to have a bulkhead like yours. Also, where did you get the rebuild parts (rollers, etc) for your front seats? You seem to have a great source for materials! Thanks in advance.

Sorry I didn’t see this coming till now, I got the baggage compartment from plane plastics out of Kansas and I went to a true value hardware store and they rebuilt the rollers out of washers and just roller parts. Thanks for watching!

How much weight did the sound deadening aluminum/rubber matt add to the gross weight? We did that on the interior of our van and it makes a huge difference
@Over50andLearningToFly
@Over50andLearningToFly 2 жыл бұрын
It didn’t really add anything to the weight and balance it was all negligible In fact it was just a couple ounces of difference that new insulation was super super light and yes it did make a huge difference. Thanks for watching!
