This is a great video. One thing you can do to prevent any sway in the discharge line if you're using those PVC hangers is to put some glue on the hanger where it comes in contact with the pipe and you'll gain some good rigidity there. And that placement of the pump sounds just like where an inspector would want it😂

I know this was a while ago, but that looks like asbestos tile to me. The telltale sign of asbestos is 9" tiles. Be careful out there.

This video helped thank you. I am installing one in my house as well. Did he put the rocks in to help filter the water? I am going to do the same, and was thinking of maybe adding a flexible screen around the basin to make it even more filtered.

No. It's just ground water going back outside so there's no need to filter it

Now today there is plastic sheeting laid down before the concrete is poured the plastic should be no less than 6 mil.thick !!!! That is for basement,s and and slabs for the main house as well.plus it help,s prevent any thing made out of mild steel from rusting in any outdoor shop or garauge.

If your basin is flimsy, fit the lid before you backfill else it can go out of shape.

I am going to dig a sump pit for the first time and I noticed you drilled pilot holes. I assume to help direct the cracking when you use the jack hammer. Do you think it is necessary though? I am thinking about just jack hammering a hole in the floor without pilot holes.

Bypass those pilot holes 🕳️ and it doesn't go right, you'll either be stuck with a really big problem you can't afford to fix or spend 20 times the money, time, and effort of renting a hammer drill and bit, and doing it properly. While I realize this comment Is a year old and may no longer be relevant to the original poster. I thought I would drop this here for anyone flirting with the same bad idea.

I don't think you can legally do that anymore on new installs especially for licensed contractors.

Pumping into sewer can overload the treatment plant if everyone did it. That's why most new roads don't tie storm drains into sewers anymore

Why no lawn fabric around the perimeter of the hole? Wont the dirt just migrate in to the stone and eventually the basin?

Depends on the dirt if it's sandy clay I would use cloth. but if it's just hard clay the stone should be enough to filter.

Gets rid of excess water in basement that can come in from too much rain, ground water, etc. It'll also help if your basement ever floods from the washer or something

Hi - I am digging the hole but there is sand underneath the cement which makes it hard to dig deep. How do I solve for this? The side of the hole keeps falling in.

The pump sends it up through the PVC out to the front flower bed. It's only ground water it pumps out

It's to allow ground water into the basin. The pump then removes the water, usually out to a drain or even out to a sewer.

@@CountrysideStrong jeeze that dusts got everywhere , I hope luck is on everyone’s side here. Were you ever told by the building regs guy why he wanted the sump in the middle of the room and why it couldn’t go in the corner like you mentioned? I’m guessing that basement wasn’t some recent addition after a building regs change which made it mandatory for a sump pump to be installed, it seems strange the owners would be forced to install one to sell the house, different rules and reg all over the globe I guess
