I took this videos and put them together through the installation of this light weight concrete tile, ( Boral Flat tile , weights less than 600 Lbs. per square ) Hope you like this video and if you like it , share it with the world , so far , I think this is my best video about a tile roof.

Great Video. Tile Roof is a complicated skill. Thanks for sharing! I'm going to try to fix my mother-in-law's roof. Roof was "re-roofed" by a contractor...by-removing Flat concrete tiles (Monier Homestead)... removing battens/felt/valleys. Pro-Armor underlayment was used (stapled down). Flashing around skylights was done wrong (old flashing was re-used) and immediately leaked into the house. Contractor placed large tarp over both skylights, extending to the ridge 9 months ago...and has not returned to repair. I need to fix the leaks before the rainy season and get rid of the tarps. Also, contractore didn't use a drip edge or anti-ponding of any sort used at the edges of the roof, so, lots of water runs behind Fascia. I plan on removing tiles around the skylights and seal/flash the best I can. I was wondering if you have any recommendations on flashing around skylights (4 feet x 4 feet), and what to do about lack of any drip-edge or anti ponding around entire roof edge?

In Florida here, after hurricane Michael in 2018, we saw some tile roofs survive and others fail. The ones that survived had two nails in each shingle. The ones that failed had only one nail in each shingle. A stone shingle moving 150 mph is a dangerous projectile to all property nearby. Stone shingles were like missiles blowing through peoples doors, windows, walls, etc. I would suggest going to the added time and expense to add one more nail to each shingle.
@josht5453
@josht5453 2 жыл бұрын
Hard to take you seriously when you referred to tiles as “shingles” about 10 different times. Shingles are an asphalt-based product with completely different installations than tiles. Also hurricane level winds are going to destroy tile roofs regardless of wind speed. Quality products and installation only takes you so far when you start talking about 100+ mph winds
@scottjenkins4613
@scottjenkins4613 2 жыл бұрын
@@josht5453 I'm sure that regardless of what you call them, the manufacturer's specifications are for a fastener in each hole. And the houses on the same street in the same hurricane all faired differently depending on the installation of the roof materials. Don't make excuses because everyone knows that contractors take shortcuts and do crappy work quite often.

hey eric, great video! Had a question about asphalt shingles, how do you get the first row of shingles so straight when you do them? I hear some people saying they'll use a chalk line, others say that the chalk is not good because it can be misjudged if the roof is somewhat off. Whats your method? upload a video if you have the time. thanks again

I am going to remove 1/2 the tiles, repaper with two layers of 30 and then replace the tiles. My edges have nothing except the paper over the edge of the roof and then the tile on top. Isn't there supposed to be steel on the edge??? For broken tiles I need to cut at my valleys, what type of blade do I put in my Skill Saw? Thank you so much for this video. Closed valleys leak. Open valleys allow water and debris to flow more freely. Except for slid-down, or broken tile, debris gets trapped and builds up, causing water to run along the top of the tile causing 95% of valley failures. Not an opinion here, just an observation.

You need to remove the door flench on the bottom of the door . before installing any new metal , install 1 layer of self adhere membrane over the exposed wood. Then get a 4x4 L metal and install it to the length of the door . the metal that goes over where the metal flench was fold it inside the door. Then install the metal flench back and make sure to seal any penetration with clear caulking. Attach the new roof to the bottom flench of your 4x4 metal

Really roofer? Do you know what's the purpose of the cap nails? Do you know why they are made of plastic? It seems you don't fully understand the purpose of the cap nails..anyways Im not here to argue with you...rather I'll tell you after tou install the products on the roof...the nails are useless...the tiles hold the felt in place by applying pressure over the felt and the fastener of the tiles do that too...when you do shingles is the same thing.. The coil nails do the same thing to the felt...you dont need a million dollar to hold the felt in place...you only need it to hold it while you install the materials...read you local codes...unless you are in Florida then use round metal fasteners to hold the felt. Thank for the comment.

You are hit and miss. Some things you do great, and other things you are way off. Your tile install is great, but you used the wrong underlayment. Just saying. You used asphalt shingle underlayment for tile. Or is your rich customer a cheap ass and wanted the cheapest price possible so you used an inferior product.
