Installing a vent for the Thunder USA Nova 51 Laser

After unboxing the Thunder USA Nova 51 Laser, my friend Jon from O Dark Thirty Woodworks had to prep the shop for the venting of the laser.
Jon used a 6" hole saw from Spyder products. He first used a long drill bit to make a pilot hole all the way through the drywall, foam insulation, OSB, and vinyl siding. Then we installed the dryer vent housing. This was as easy as it looked.

That should be a similar process, but just with a much bigger drill. good luck!

Does the alignment have to be perfect? How do i know where to drill from the other side

We drew the diameter of the circle on the inside, found center, used a really long drill bit to drill all the way through as a pilot hole, then went outside and placed the drill into that pilot hole. It came out perfect.

I see the cap is on straight to siding? I was going to cut a square of allura trim and insert it into the cutout siding “mounting” the cap to that.

Yes, my friend Jon decided to finish it off this way with just some caulk. it worked out well, but the method you want to incorporate would probably look more finished. Good luck!

How do you know where to drill on the outside when it doesn’t appear you drilled all the way through? Did you use a special tool did you stick the drill bit all the way through the house?

In the beginning of the video and process, we drilled a center hole with a really long drill bit. Then just went to the outside, placed the center of the hole saw bit in said hole, and drilled.

@@marrazzowoodworkingdiy8118 can you share the bit type you used to go thru house? I see a lot on Amazon for wood, ect. 1 footers, suppose that’s probably fine huh?

Question, I have pink insulation in my walls. Do I need to put anything between the vent pipe and the insulation

It's a 4" hole saw made to cut drywall, OSB, and siding.

Just like any dryer vent, use sime outdoor caulking around the vent box where it contacts the siding/brick.

How you know is no cables or water pipelines?

The structure was only framed out on the inside with no drywall, electrical, or water lines. My buddy in the video with me had a contractor add power and drywall and knew exactly where the laser would be going. So he knew that there were none of those things in the wall. Ok… and how do you secure the vent to the exterior wall?

Four screws, through the siding, into the wall. Then caulk. Nice and tight and sealed.

@@marrazzowoodworkingdiy8118 Thanks. Didn’t mean to come off like a jerk. I discovered, to my dismay, that my exterior walls don’t have any OSB to screw into. It’s just a 3/4” thick layer of polyiso foam board behind the vinyl siding. I had no idea that houses could be built so flimsily. :(. I just moved from a brick house built in the 40s into what feels like a disposable house.

Slip two small vertical pieces of sheet metal under siding and trust a friction fit sheet metal to foam board & screw 4 corner screws thro siding into sheet metal. To sandwich the metal to the back of siding. Go inside & spray foam or caulk tube to dry wall. Using wax paper to contour & shape for a more finished look. Look for more ways by asking the HVAC guys.
