Installing AC in my Garage!
About a week ago when I was filming my NewAge Cabinet 6-month review videos I was dying of heat in the garage. Since I spend a lot of time filming for you guys in the garage, I decided it was time to put in a AC unit as filming with fans just won’t work because of the noise. Luckily, I have a Portable AC unit for my house as a backup in case something goes down (so it wasn’t really any extra money). I decided to hook up the AC unit to my existing Garage Hot Dawg Heater vent pipe so I didn’t have to drill any holes into the side of my house! So far I have a cool garage to work in, so I think it worked out perfectly!

Purchased: August 2023 - still works GREAT!I kzfaq.infoUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

Nice. The ac unit will collect water as it cools the garage. If the internal tank is small you may need to collect it in a bigger tank or let it drain. Otherwise you will have to empty the tank often if you are running it a lot. Also the pipe exhausting the hot air outside can get hot as you mentioned. It may help your ac efficiency if you insulated that pipe so it doesn’t end up heating up the garage. 👍
@GasTachs

Thanks for the tips. I have unplugged the drain in the back and I’ll let the water run on the to garage floor and it will just run out the garage. I’ll see how it holds up with Friday’s temp to see if I insulate the exhaust pipe. 👍🏻

Man I’ll be honest with you , I installed a portable ac unit in my garage also . The unit I installed only worked for about two years and It quit working . These type of units are not designed to be worked on or recharged if needed . So I cut in a window in my garage , and installed a 220 volt window ac unit , works great , and cools the garage off way faster . Love your channel man , keep up the good work man !!!

This is a great "temp" solution. I really only need it for a month or 2 in the year so it work. BUT best solution would be a mini split. Thanks for tuning in!

These work well especially if your building/garage is insulated well. I have one. The only drawback is if I run it a lot it drives my electricity bill up by $100 per month.

I tried the portable in my 24x28 garage it didn't do much. I went with a 15k btu window unit and it dies the trick. It was 100 that my garage stayed around 78 to 79. What I found out on the portable unit is it needs to be off the floor maybe 5 to 8 feet that way It's high enough to catch the warm air at the higher level in the room.. Now I did also find out that make ceiling a.c. units that fit between your trusses if you have attic access . they portable units work well in a bedroom with a low ceiling.

Thanks for the information! Since I only use this when Im going to be in the garage all day I turn it on first thing in the morning and it will maintain the garage at the cool morning temps. If I turn it on during the hottest time of the day it really doesnt work to well.

I'm in FL and I'm looking at cooling my garage for when I detail my car. Nice setup you have now. I wonder how long it will take to cool off a 525 sq. ft. garage from 90F to 72F. I would definitely get a 14K BTU
@GasTachs
@GasTachs 4 жыл бұрын
Great Questions. my garage is about double that size. What I find is about 2 hours for a size like yours. It much more difficult to cool it down than keep it cool. So what I do is turn it on before it's hot then it works perfect.

You might look at mini split. Probably 2-3 times more but better in the long run. I have a portable I use in shop office then use it for home hurricane duty the last three years.

I have a question about portable ac units in my garage. I am in florida and this garage does not have any windows or vents. I'm staying with family for 3 months until my house is done. We are building new homw. In meantime my cats are having to stay in garage and I need ac for them. How can I get an ac if I have no way to use venting hose??? PLEASE HELP ME!

If you would built a inlet (or intake) and feed it to the condenser coil it make it freeze you out . Because you are using the air in the garage for condenser intake air which is removing the cool air making the system being in hot humid air from outside putting your garage into negative pressure which is dangerous

Gas Tachs it sure does. I have one too and realized the tube got extremely hot so I was a little concerned but when I realized the unit was doing it’s job of bringing the temp down I didn’t worry too much. If they can find a way to insulate the tube or even make 2 insulated outlets it will make these units way more efficient. May be future tech

Tying a hot-air ventilation system into a _real_ exhaust system which contains carbon monoxide is not appropriate. In the winter, when that heater is running, ensure that no back-drafting occurs due to winds against that garage wall, otherwise you'll be sleeping on the garage floor with the inability to wake up.
