I just bought this stuff to try for the first time, thank you for simplifying the process for me,as well as the ventilation tips. I had no idea how to secure my end panels,now I'm pretty sure I got this. Thank you sir, and I did like,and subscribe as well 👍

So I am upgrading our existing kitchen cabinets by putting some nicer end panels on them to cover the cheap faded original contact paper type stuff. The cabinet doors are actually pretty nice and solid wood. I bought 1/8" Luan Birch plywood and had to play with stains to get a good match. Now that I am done with that I was thinking of using wood glue and maybe a staple gun or brads to attach them but didn't want those to show on my new nice stained panels. Glad I googled a "how to". Great video. I assume this contact cement will stick to my existing crappy end panels? Thanks for the video!

I appreciate you sharing this. A contractor that is installing cabinets for us said he didn't want to put end panels on because after a few months they cement will fail and they will fall off.

As long as you get two good coats on each side it will be very hard to get it loose. Wait 5 minutes between coats and 5 - 10 minutes before sticking. My panels have been on there for a year and a half. No problems. Thanks for watching and don't forget to subscribe for more great videos!

I'll certainly subscribe. I look forward to more of your offerings. Thanks again.

I have used some type of 3M spray adhesive in the past but the fumes were KILLER. Like the most dangerous product I've ever used. Surprised it's even legal to sell it. I'll try this brush-on cement and hope the fumes are not as bad.

opentrunks It should be way better than spraying. I spray contact cement a lot and always use a respirator. I would recommend having adequate ventilation or a respirator if you are in a tight area.

I wonder if wood glue and some furniture clamps would work for this.

I noticed u gave the side of the wood 2 smacks when u were finished with the glue up. My question is, can I give the wood just 1 smack followed by a thumbs up, or possibly 3 smacks with a high five to my friend? Just wanted to make sure I stay on point. Kidding aside, great video.

I’d stick to the regulation number of smacks defined by your local building codes and anything you add after will be just between you and god.

Do you think this would work ok on pressed wood that has polyurethane on it? Long story short got stuck w/pressed wood cabinets when I wasn't supposed to and want strengthen them over all but especially from moisture. Thought about applying polyurethane to the pressed wood sides and then adding panels for extra protection even to areas that won't be seen. Is this total overkill and would it work OK? Thanks!

How big is the bow? If you get a few good coats on it and then clamp the bowed ends for 24 hrs is will for sure stay. Contact cement is pretty strong so you may not even have to clamp it.

Thanks AJ! Hey, can I buy these to match existing with shaker style or perhaps a raised bead molding etc. or do I need to make them?

Hey Joe, great video. Question. Do you think it would be overkill to apply finishing nails after applying the adhesive?
@AverageJoe4 жыл бұрын
Yes it would be overkill. That is not necessary. As long as you follow the process and have good contact it will not let go.

HI Joe great videos! Quick question I'm in the process of building a kitchen island and the end panels I have for my cabinets have like a plastic vinylish back on them. I polyurethaned the wood front to match the cabs, my question is will the contact cement still have the same effect with this type of backing on It? Thanks for your help!

+Richard Peo I am not familiar with the product you are talking about so I can not guarantee the results. However, if I were to be installing it, I would sand the backside really well with a low grit such as 80 grit. After that use a degreaser. Good luck with your project! AverageJoe.

You don't take the labels off ?
@AverageJoe3 жыл бұрын
Nah....they are stuck on really well. Not worth trying to get them off.

The panels I bought have a slight curve. I was using finishing nails and power grab adhesive. No luck. As soon as I nail down one side and start doing the other, the opposite would pop up. Are the panels defective being curved or am I not using the correct method. I doubt contact glue would be strong enough to hold it down.

Do they make panels that will accept stain ?
@MattG-dk6sx5 жыл бұрын
I basically have the same cabinets but stained these
