In this video I replace my worn out control arm bushings to energy suspension bushings.
*Important update**Guys I should have kept the metal sleeve on the bigger bushing, going to install some then press the bushing back in*

A tube of high pressure grease and the willingness to get dirty saves a lot of time and actually leads to a better/ longer lasting install imo. Nonetheless, props to you for getting it done and documenting some of the process for others. I think you just motivated me to throw my 360 cam outside when I work on my engines and spend the time to edit some decent content. I wrench full time and have my life's savings invested in tools, and I have mad respect for anyone of any skill level who gets it done 👍👍 the most important thing I learned in my time spent as a mechanic was to make everything a learning experience.

I just started the car today. Everything seems to be running fine. No check engine lights at the moment. I'm still using the auto harness, I just had to extend the speed sensor. I'll test drive it tomorrow, hopefully everything is fine 🤞🏾

Hey man, as you can tell, your video is still doing wonders for the RSX community. Could you share what you noticed that led you to realizing you should have left the sleeves in? After letting my mechanic talk me into him remove them, I am trying to track down a popping noise that i have tried everything to diagnose. I am wondering if it could be related to him removing the sleeves. Did you experience any noise or popping?

Just checked the urethane bushings on my car last week after 3 years thousands of miles they are still like the day I installed them they're just dirty now 😂 best investment on suspension i did the bushings same day I did the struts and those struts are now in the trash as of last week🗑️🙅‍♂️😂😂😂😂 those urethane bushings are very durable .

I took the sleeves out. The bushings I got were pretty tight on there. Made it somewhat difficult to push down on the LCA so that it lines up my spindle with the strut bolts.

I actually ended up using the same method to remove that last bushing. I first drilled some holes through it all around, then used a jig saw to cut out the rubber, then cleaned up the extra rubber, and then cut into the metal sleeve and punched it out. Actually much quicker my second time doing it.

Nice! Leave the sleeves in, I cut it out but there a small bit of play. I didn't clean them out thoroughly because I didn't think it would make a difference since the new bushings are polyurethane. There wasn't much left on there though. Thanks man ✊🏾 good luck with your car

Good job, but you are not supposed to lubricate the outside of the bushings ( clamping force ) only the inside of the bushings are supposed to be grease ( the working part ) * liquid soap is use to install the bushings *

There are a lot of issues with these bushings, some are not manufacturers' fault, others - are. And I am not talking about price - this is something the buyer at least knows in advance. 1. Their claim that all it takes is "some smoke from the bushing to separate the sleeves from rubber" is outright lie. It may be the case with jeep but certainly not with Toyota - you need to torch it for a long time to actually burn rubber off. 2. The fact that they don't provide sleeves with the bushings is simply ridiculous. Especially considering price. In fact, I would not mind paying extra so that I did not have to dicect the old bushings, and the first issue is minor compared to this one. It is pretty common for bolts/sleeves freeze in bushings so it's virtually impossible to separated them from inner bushing sleeves without damaging. It may not be an issue with jeeps and fords because their bushings are replaced on a regular basis but Toyota bushings last so long that it's practically unavoidable to face this. In my case, the truck is 17 yo with 230,000 miles, and the original bushings were still good. The only reason I had to replace them was installation of lift and JBA upper control arms that required alignment that couldn't be performed because - you guessed it - one bolt and one cam sleeve were frozen. After 17 years in the Midwest and N-E, is should not come as a surprise. This condition requires a hell of a lot of heating and pounding, pounding and heating, and then it's a real PITA to attach the [original] washers to most likely damaged bushing sleeves. 3. The last issue is design - there are no lubrication means. And don't tell me it's impossible - just look at JBA upper control arms. I installed grease fitting in control arm ears and drilled holes in the bushings to allow grease flow to inner sleeves. Hope it will work. Overall, bushing material is probably adequate but pure inexcusable greed that prevented the manufacturer from providing lower bushing sleeves and washers (even for extra $$) is beyond ridiculous. Bottom line: if your vehicle is 10+ yo and has spent that time in places where winter happens every year, expect MAJOR (BIGLY!) hassle installing these bushings. Or - MUCH BETTER OPTION - buy from another manufacture that does provide all necessary coponents and does not force to wash and reuse condoms because reusing bushing sleeves is just as ridiculous as reusing condoms.
@aspireddrivenauto8650
@aspireddrivenauto8650 3 жыл бұрын
Wow thanks man for all your input! You're points are definitely valid! I was laughing at washing and reusing the condom lol, but it is true! They could have included the sleeves and a way to grease the bushings! I'm going to most likely go back to stock
