in the future, i'll give a tip. use 2 buckets of clean water and 2 sponges when grouting. one is your dirty bucket and one is the clean. wipe with the dirty sponge and rinse in the dirty bucket. final wipe with the clean sponge. when finished, wipe with a cloth towel for a final pass.

I aim to please! Shockingly well - no issues in the last five years to be honestly. Just routine cleaning! I’ll add that it’s a covered patio and gets morning sunlight and only the edges get wet/in the rain. So a majority is just foot traffic with little UV or rain weather. That being said the edges see all of it and yea - no damages in the last 5+ years so far.

How is the tile holding up? Just bought a house (close on it this week) and I'm gonna do this to my front porch. I'll be doing it by myself though which is fine since I'm a stay at home mom. I cannot wait to get started!! Thanks for this awesome tutorial. Super helpful.

Good luck! It’s held up incredibly well and you’re question made me realize it’s been nearly four years. Knock on wood - we haven’t repaired a single one - but everything is outdoor rated so I think that is expected? And it sees heavy foot traffic. Everyone made comments about white grout - I washed and mopped it Sunday morning and it looks almost as good as new. My wife also did our front porch the next weekend and it’s held up just as well and it gets even more daily weather and traffic.

I learned that I'm going to save up and pay someone to do it. You both did a great job, and it looks really amazing. It’s held up very well with regular cleaning and leaf blowing; it’s covered so I think that does help - but it is all rated for outdoor use across all materials, and with regular maintenance it’s done great and I’d just flag that it’s very slippery when wet so take that into account!

I did not - it's a covered patio so there is no water build up on it. I'm also in SoCal so rain is infrequent as is and the tile, mortar, and grout are all outdoor rated. If you didn't have the covering then I would look to do something like that just to be on the safe side. Cheers

I have been doing a lot of research and have seen many different options including not using one like in your video. Wrong materials, wrong techniques, sorry. The fact that you used MASTIC (essentially glue!) to bond your tiles instead of a polymer-modified thinset means that your tiles are at risk of detaching once enough water soaks beneath the tiles and starts loosening the glue. Mastic is fine for the kitchen and other NON-wet areas, but a porch s not typically one of those. Also, laying down an uncoupling membrane before tiling prevents your tiles from cracking as your concrete underneath naturally cracks over time.
