This is the 6th video in our kitchen renovation series and we're ready to finish installing all of our IKEA cabinets as we do the final prep to measure for our new countertops so we can have a sink again soon! We'll also take a look at our custom semihandmade cabinet fronts and creating side panels from scratch. We can finally see the kitchen starting to take shape!

That little disaster you all found behind your sink is the stuff of nightmares, but I'm glad you shared how Cam and his dad troubleshooted it. This gives me something to anticipate when we renovate our kitchen (crossing my fingers that we don't see any issues).

Any surprises with the templating? Or advice!?

No surprises with templating! For advice, our fabricator prefers all panels, filler pieces, and doors are installed for the templating process. This helps insure that none of the overhangs will be calculated incorrectly. You can see we at least installed the top drawer of each cabinet for reference. Also, my other advice would be to choose a fabricator you trust or has very good reviews. We have worked with ours before and they really care about getting it all correct and talking through any tricky areas. Ours uses a laser measure which also helps insure everything is very precise!

Just following you from your Condo video onwards, do you do your renovation yourself? I mean its a lots of work and kinda surprised to see this video which shows you guys are onto it yourself!

Thanks for following along! Yep, we do almost all of the work ourselves! We’ll hire out for plumbing / elec but that’s really it!

How did you attach the side panels? And was it worth the time/money to do it this way?

I think all IKEA cabinet require side panels. We attach them with multipurpose screws from the inside of the cabinet

But you made them yourselves with MDF. Worth it? Just wondering about price difference.

@@jillofalltrades11 oh yes! I think it was worth it for us bc we also painted the fronts. If we were to get pre-finished fronts I’d just opt for the pre-finished side panels. We never really did a price comparison

What do you mean by account for floor height? We also will do our kitchen reno before new floors so I want to make sure I understand!

If you want the countertops at 36” after the new floors go in, you’ll add the flooring height to that. For example, our floors were approximately 3/4” thick so we needed the counter height to be at 36 3/4” before the new floors.
