Hey guys! I went LIVE today to show you behind the scenes on how I install my double ended dreadlock extensions!
I decided to record this video for two reasons..
1. I was putting my dreads in anyways :)
2. A video like this would have been sooo amazing to have back when I was just starting out with my dreads!!
It is the entire process START to FINISH, from prepping my natural hair to styling my dreads, this video shows what it's really like to install dreads! During the LIVE I was able to answer some questions and give a Ted Talk so its your one stop shop for quality content haha
Thank you so much for watching! I hope it gives you some clarity and confidence during your dread journey!

“people aren’t going to like you for so many reasons… so give them good ones.” YO 🙌 that gave me the courage to go for it, thank you! it seems a lot of people don’t understand the difference between cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation. you aren’t artificially presenting yourself as a person of color or exploiting the products of another culture in a harmful or derogatory way. hair can be a struggle for women/people of all colors and heritage and we should all be able to wear styles that give us confidence and help protect our hair, as long as it’s done in a tasteful and respectful way.

I've made my own dreads and done my own installs for 4 years. I started out just like you with horrible hair damage due to my addiction to bleach. Since I've been in recovery my hair has fully recovered but now I'm addicted to dreads. Wish I had shard my journey like you have! Thanks for the dreadful video's!

omg! you looks so cute! I just ordered my first set two weeks ago n they arrived three days ago.Except I got a mixture of dreads, braids, and dreads that turn into curls at the end and they are blonde and baby pink. My neighbor said she knew how to put them in but she started putting cornrows in my hair and halfway threw it I told her I didn't want it done that way that I wanted to do them with the braid into the dread method (same as you) and I told her no glue and she had put it on her hand and used it anyways without me noticing so I'm not letting her touch my hair again.But after watching your video you have given me the courage to try it myself so thank you so much.I love your personality too.As far as the whole cultural thing...We are all human beings I don't understand why we all can't just wish the best for each other and realize that there is actual important stuff going on in the world we all are dealing with together and stop with the cultural and racial differences.Much love.

Im glad my videos are helpful :) I have all of the products I use on my hair linked on my amazon storefront. I'll add the link to the description box of this video so you can head over there! (idk if I can post the link here for you too but ill try!) Your amazon set might just be a bit on the itchy side. Ive heard that happens a lot with different amazon sets so hopefully some products can help you out! I would just try to focus on keeping your scalp hydrated. That might help the most, or you could try installing them just a bit looser so they are off you scalp a little more? I hope this helps! :)

Really glad your hair is doing better and making you happy. Just maybe try a different brand of oil? I find that one really expensive for somethings that has silicones as the two first ingredients. An argan oil dry oil might be better. I used to use the maroccan oil stuff before going sulphate and silicone free and that was the best hair decision of my life. Wish you many great hair days in the future 😊😅

Especially for dry and brittle hair that's kinda curly. I was so amazed by the difference after a year and a half that I chopped my butt length curls to chin length to get rid of the old hair and just have the new. So much softer and healthier 💕 thinking of doing partials while I wait for it to grow. If you are worried about yor ends have you thought about braiding yarn or ribbon that matches your hair with your hair and then wrapping that around your ends to secure it and protect your ends at the same time? If it's braided in it won't slip if that's a worry. ( Sorry I just keep adding things while I watch. Thanks for the helpful videos! )

@@nicolepoulton I don't really have specific products I just tend to use what I have available where I live that works. Just making sure it's sulphate and silicone free. A shampoo brush is a really good help and also stimulates hair growth. I use a conditioner that's slippery enough so I can detangle with a wet brush but you can probably skip that part. I also use a leave in conditioner on wet hair but that's probably too heavy for finer one. Better option would probably be to rinse most of your conditioner out but not all of it. This works too for when I'm lazy and was a tip from an experienced hairdresser after wrangling with mine a few times. You can experiment how much to rinse off and how much to leave in for your hair type. The light oil would mostly be for locking moisture in I think. On it's own it isn't as good a conditioner even though it has tons of other benefits. Not sure if this answered your question though
@TheImaginaryCat
@TheImaginaryCat Жыл бұрын
I probably should mention why. The sulphates are a really harsh cleaning agent for your hair and stripping out all the natural good oils that make your hair healthy and can also be really irritating and drying for your scalp. So just fixing that one thing can actually help dry and brittle hair a lot
@mellyboo513

I’m curious… do you find that you get breakage from the weight of the dread hanging on the hair? Or from the elastic tension on the end of your real hair? I always soaked my daughter’s rubber bands in oil to make less friction. I’m genuinely curious about the tension on the hair follicle. You look so cute with them in.

Hello, I just finished watching your video and I have to say you made it look super easy! I have been having my local loctition put them in which goes quick and she does an amazing job but the cost is not so fun:/ I have tried doing my own but it got so frustrating I gave up. I just recently got them put back in and they are great but I think too many were put in and they are sooo itchy I’m getting annoyed by them. I so want to take them out but I spent quite a bit of money to have them installed. I would love to try and do them myself but I am way too much of a perfectionist:/ do you have any advice? I am also going to Hawaii soon for the first time and I wanted to wear mine so I wouldn’t have to worry about my hair, but if I am just going to be itchy and have too much hair I don’t think I will have much fun on the trip. 😢 Thank you for any advice you have 😊 again loved the video, best one I have seen so far for installing dread extensions ❤
@nicolepoulton
@nicolepoulton Жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply! But oh man when I first started installing mine it was frustrating for sure! I think the best thing you could do is just practice! I had to let go of the perfectionism because otherwise I would never be able to do it myself but getting them professionally installed would just be too pricy for me. Honestly, if you love you’re dreads then learning how to install them yourself is a skill worth learning! At first it took me 5-8 hours to install and now my most recent one was only 2.5 hours. So it does get better I promise! You can do it, not a doubt in my mind! Just give yourself a whole day, go slow, put on your favorite show and start braiding! After about 3 installs by yourself you’ll get the hang out it really good! Also, I wear mine to hawaii and it is amazing! I can het them wet and sandy and with the humidity, it’s all good! Have fun and don’t stress but I totally know what you mean about how the itching can drive you nuts if they’re installed too thick! Let me know how it goes!
@winterkitten2113
@winterkitten2113 4 ай бұрын
An extreme late reply, sorry! I ended up taking some out to let my hair calm down and then I put them in myself which was really easy seeing as my loctition had already sectioned my hair out. Hawaii was beautiful, I would love to go back and I am glad I wore my dreads there. I have come to realize from that install there was just way too many that were in so I have been reducing the amount that is installed which has helped with it being to heavy and it feels much better but I still have yet to successfully install them myself. I know I am over thinking it for sure but I need to find an easier way to braid them in because I have been trying the blanket method and that is kind of hard not gonna lie but it is an amazing method for my dreads to feel secure. I think I will try just braiding them how you were doing in this live and see if that is easier I just need to work on my sectioning which frustrates me to no end lol. I did actually come back to this video tonight and was attempting to install some wool ones I have but like I stated above sectioning was horrible and it was a bit too late to finish them, I have an appointment set up to install them with my loctition but it feels like a lifetime away and I already miss having them in. I have seriously considered getting real ones but they are almost just as expensive as the extensions. P.S. I love my dreadful hippie locks too, I can’t seem to wear any others but those lol ❤

The elastics have been a roller coaster for me! I’m not a fan of the pack I was using in this video (though I do still use them lol) They have this coating on it that makes them slippery and after having them installed for a few weeks they start to fall apart and dreads slip out! Ugh! I’m still in the process of finding my favorite ones. I LOVE the brand Goodie! I have been having a hard time finding the mini clear ones from Goodie in their own pack though. Buts that’s what I’d recommend 🥰

Regarding cultural diversity, to just lay it out there ( my opinion that is), Dreadlocks have been around since the BEGINNING OF MAN & ANIMAL....P👏E👏R👏I👏O👏D👏👏👏!! Homosapiens, the caveman, Druidic (Druid), Celtic, Norse (Vikings),ect, yada yada,YAWN!! Can we PLEASE find something actually SUBSTANTIAL & IMPORTANT to b!tch about?!?! Let's broach MEANINGFUL, NECESSARY & IMMEDIATE topics and issues of the w🌎RLD people!! Quit jumping on that bandwagon of slander & hate that political figures & society as a whole seem to want you to partake in. There's ALWAYS gonna be difference of options, cultures and environment but does that seriously give us a reason to hate or belittle one another?? Learn from one another & open up a whole new enlightened lifestyle by embracing ones differences, NOT CONDONING SEPARATISM & fueling bigotry, racism & fascism because THAT'S EXACTLY what the system wants us to do & is EXACTLY what we are doing people. There is but ONE RACE in the eyes of The Creator peeps, and that is THE HUMAN RACE!! We are ALL brothers and sisters in the eyes of God!! Sorry about my rant. ADORE YOU & your videos (you remind me so much of my baby bird { daughter 😉}!!) & Love the step by step tutorial about your solo mission which is exactly what I'm doing...lol. I had the legitimate real deal Locks in my younger years however I'm going for temporary gratification this go round. Wish me luck & thanx again for the tip. Blessings to ALL of you & ALL of yours!🤙✌️💓😘🙏🌊🏄🌅
