My mobile home setup is 2000AH of lithium batteries (1200AH being iTechWorld batteries) but I have connected them across 4 x 3000-watt inverters to ensure that the setup is within Australian Standards as well as trying to keep cable sizes down as that is where the costs soon add up. what this allows me to do is to operate more than one heavy current use appliance at a time e.g. electric jug for coffee while using induction cooker for cooking dinner. However, as it is a bigger size mobile home, I do not have the space restrictions that many caravans have.

Hey nice work, I know the satisfaction in getting it all to look right also. Completely rewired my 45' steel yacht a while ago and all wire Neg return is a must at sea. Good to see that on the road too, much more efficient with high current. The only thing I`d do different would be to put in bus bars to take all the connectors and have just two high current conductors from each battery leading to each of the pos. and Neg. bus. Better to prevent all those wires flopping around on the road and over time loosening off the terminal bolts. BEP make some excellent high current bus bars. Commercial grade stuff too,,,

Good series you are doing. Just a comment on the formula for the current from the battery. The efficiency of the inverter needs to be added in. Itech 3000w says >85% so the formula is (3000 / 13.2v) /.85 so the current draw will be 267A. Looks like a great setup and the 240A seems to be the perfect size for what you are doing
@AsWeWander
@AsWeWander Жыл бұрын
Good to know thanks, I’ve always gone by the rule of allowing 20% of watts which is about 2400w as a buffer so I’d never run a 3000w appliance off a 3000w inverter. So would you do that formula off the appliance watts (2400w/13.2) /.85 = 214amps
@andrews8356
@andrews8356 Жыл бұрын
@AsWeWander Yes you are correct that would be amps the inverter would run (worst Case) for a 2400w load. The 3000W inverter will still output 3000W no problem but just take a bit higher current when the efficiency is taken into account. Good luck with your project

Very nice setup! Can you explain a bit more about why you don't need a ground to the chassis. Just in the process of getting our van 12 volt setup done. Cheers!
@AsWeWander
@AsWeWander Жыл бұрын
A ground to chassis just means you run the battery negative to the chassis so you can run all the accessory negatives to the chassis this makes the circuit using the chassis. Because I’m using the shunt to monitor the battery which needs all the negatives run to it and the shunt is connected to the battery negative the circuit is complete.

@AsWeWander thanks for the reply! oh nice. I've just seen alot of stuff saying to run one to the chassis aswell. We will have a shunt with battery monitor then to the negative busbar. No invertor atm but just a fuse block, solar and dcdc charger

Thanks for the video. I am in the process of changing AGM to iTECH Lithium set up. But I was told that seeing I will be installing a 3000w inverter that it need to be wired in by a qualified sparky, for safety, insurance purposes and of course if the NSW or QLD Boys and Girls go through the van on the inspection sites. Hope what I was told was correct otherwise I might be getting ripped off.
@AsWeWander
@AsWeWander 9 ай бұрын
Hey! I hope the video was helpful. You won’t look back once you get lithium and if you use our discount code you’ll save another 5%. You can wire in the 12v side yourself (from battery bank to inverter) but the 240v side needs to be done by a licensed professional if you’re using the terminal block and wiring it to power points around the van, there’s also the inbuilt power outlets in the inverter that don’t need any wiring that you can plug 240v appliances into. We had our 240v done by a licensed electrician with safety switches and inverter/shore power change over breakers.

First things first that's a great set up. Somewhat jealous 😮 My main criticism is pretty petty but it's fairly important. You started by saying the batteries are most important and they determine everything. The most important thing is understanding your power demands and getting batteries that can handle that peak load or survive long enough between shade or low input power. If that's not right then the rest of the system is going to struggle or be overkill. Out of interest I'm new to the channel so not familiar with your qualifications? Are you a sparky, auto sparky or just personally educated to achieve your needs?
@AsWeWander
@AsWeWander Жыл бұрын
Yes understanding your power needs is a must, I do explain our power needs as I go and what we need from the batteries. So that messaging is there I just haven’t said it directly, I’m saying the batteries are the first product you need to look into and make sure they suit your needs. Everything I’ve learnt and is from personal experience and hours of online reading and other KZfaq videos.

@@AsWeWander as I said at the start it was petty but important and agree the video is pretty comprehensive of what's required. Good to hear it's all self taught as well. There's so much knowledge available if you know where to look and how to decide what's right and wrong. 👍

I love the instructional element of this video. Well done to you all. I am currently redoing all the 12V electrics in our van with iTech Products. I have a question regarding the Thetford Fridge and the internal venting system. We have Thetford (now 3 years old) with the Freezer at bottom. All venting occurs at the base - which is counter productive with heat rising - but thats their design. On a recent trip with outside air temps reaching 35 degrees, the actual top of wooden cabinet where fridge sits was extremely warm (38 degrees C) and the internal fridge temp was at a balmy 8 degrees 🙄 and the fridge compressor working hard. I have now reopened up the top external venting (which I had sealed with Perspex) by cutting 3 x 75mm holes in it, and will install a Klevacool fridge exhaust fan set. Possibly having the freezer increases the heat generated by the system? Also parking with Sun on the Fridge side of the van also can contribute, but sometimes thats the reality of the camp site. I look forward to your journey and possibly comment on how your fridge goes in the field. Cheers Steve

Hey, thats awesome the itech gear has been great and makes the off grid living so much easier. Our Thetford fridge has been great so far, we have a draw above he fridge that does get quite warm but its just got cutlery and plates in there so its fine. The fridge we have has a fan which pulls air from underneath the fridge up the back then the warm air comes out the top. It works so well we dont turn the temp all the way down even in the top end. hope this and the video helps, thanks for watching

Great build guys . Probably worth using a small PC fan to aid in ventilation in the power storage area in conjunction with the vents to force a better air flow .it's likely to get pretty hot in there especially in our Aussie summer . Even would be worth venting the heat outside .Love your work good luck with everything

@AsWeWander
@AsWeWander 2 ай бұрын
Yes it does but if you use two different chargers you’ll get more amps into the battery eg. 22 amps from solar on the roof through the solar controller + 40 amps from the car through the dcdc. If I wired the solar panels on the roof through the dcdc charger it would only pick one or the other not both. We do have a portable solar blanket that we plug into the dcdc charger when we’re setup at camp ⛺️

That would work but they do have a portable option available that has a 160ah lithium in it, I’m looking at getting one for our car and getting rid of the wired in second battery setup. But yeah you connect the positive and negative from the inverter to the positive and negative on the battery and she’ll run sweet or if you want a battery monitor just wire in a shunt 👌🏼

You are going to drastically shorten the life of your batteries with that setup........you should NEVER draw or charge lithium batteries at more than 100Amps. Sure, they will openly state that they can draw or charge at more than 100 Amps......marketing.....but read the fine print (not the website)....it is not a continuous current draw...it is for very very brief periods. Your setup = 3000-watt inverter at 12 volts = possible max current of 250 Amps (ignoring losses and efficiencies for ease of understanding) 12volt system should only use 1200-watt max inverter = 100 amps 24volt system should only use 2400-watt max inverter = 100 amps 48volt system should only use a 4800-watt max inverter = 100 Amps Also, 50mm2 cable is vastly undersize to be carrying 250Amps DC......refer to Australian Standards Sorry but my recommendation to viewers is that the information presented here though well-presented and informative is technically incorrect and can result in electrical fire hazards if installed as shown. PS - the battery fuse is oversized at 450 amps (cable insulation will overheat prior to fuse blowing) ...should have been 1.25x max current draw. This setup would have been much better connected as a 24volt configuration as that would have brought your current draw, cable sizes, etc much closer to being a correct installation. I understand that iTechWorld does not currently offer a 24v 3000- watt inverter, so my recommendation would be to get a 24volt inverter and change your system to 24volts.....actually fairly easy to do with your setup. Yes, still a 125 Amp max possible draw current but you are very unlikely to draw more than 2400 watts from your 3000-watt inverter most of the time so mostly 100Amps IF maxed out. Based on Aussie system of 240v with 10-amp power points for appliances = 2400 watts...so really only one heavy current draw appliance at any one-time e.g. electric jug. 40+ years experienced Electrician
