I ended up using a heatgun to get the collars off, about a min of high heat, then I took the set screws out with a T8 Torx bit using an impact driver 😊

hi, I also upgraded with the 4060 kit and replaced the spoilboard with the hybrid plan. I preferred this configuration because I already own a 4030 prover xl with 6060 extension and aluminum spoilboard. Hello from Italy

25:20 Note that the original shorter front and back bars are exactly the same height as the new longer ones, I plan on putting mine under the center of the spoilboard assembly to add more deflection/rigidity support, then surface the board after, might as well use them :)

I changed my spring as it seemed to be a bit of a thicker gauge. I wasn't sure, with the extra length, they wanted a beefier spring.

James, I'm on the fence to upgrade my 4040 Pro, or just put that $350 and effort towards a PrintNC some time down the road. What are your thoughts after using it a couple of weeks.

Excellent video! Would you recommend to change the linear bearings and backlash nuts while you have the machine apart? Any idea where to find the right parts for the 4040 Pro?

i had to use a small propane torch to get the second coupler apart without stripping the set screws. the first one i had to put the coupling in a machine vise and drill out the set screws. what a nightmare. it left a bad enough taste that im saving up for a onefinity.

Thanks for the vid James ! What sort of lubricant do you suggest for the lead screws and rods and rod bearings?
@TunaSoda
@TunaSoda 21 күн бұрын
I reached out to Sainsmart with that exact question... "Thank you for reaching out to us. When it comes to lubricating the lead screws on your machine, we recommend using a silicone-based lubricating grease. One specific option you can consider is fluorinated silicone lubricating grease. Please note that it's important to use only a small amount of lubricant to prevent excess buildup, which could attract more dirt and debris over time. Additionally, be cautious not to apply lubricant to any belts or pulleys."

The 4040-PRO obviously wasn't meant to be disassembled with locktite having been used all over it. I stripped 3 screws trying to disassemble it to install the 4060 extension. In the end, I got it all together (took over a week waiting for a replacement part Sainsmart shipped to me from China), but one of the limit switches was behind a plate attached with one of the stripped screws so I gave up at that point and ordered a Onefinity CNC. Sainsmart blew it on these expansion kits. Even if everything had come together in the end, which it didn't, it still would have been a horrible upgrade experience.

this was a crappy enough process that im now saving up for a onefinity machine. currently waiting for another coupling from sainsmart. one is sketchy and there is now a squeak because its slipping.

Good video, I now have a 4040 and brought a 2000 rpm 775-m motor for it. This motor is VERY LOUD, and has a lot of vibration, any thoughts?

Nice review ! How do you change the Cutting Speed on this machine? My G-Code shows F40. Do I need to change the XY GRBL $ settings ? If so which ones ? Like how would I double the cutting speed ? Thanks James

Hi James, great video as always. I have the 3030pro. Do you know if it's likely there will be an extension kit for it, or if there is one in the pipeline? Thanks for all the time you put into your videos, they are always excellent!

Hi James, I started out with the prover 3018 machine and I've now outgrown it as far as doing mods on it, which machine would you recommend for build quality on a budget of £1300?

Recently upgraded mine like this too. Have you noticed any deflection at all when doing long cuts across the x axis? If i do a straight cut of say 500mm, it ends up being an arc with a deflection of about 1mm in the middle. I use illustrator + easel + candle... pretty much elliminated software issues. I curently susspect gantry sag when getting to the middle of the x axis.
@JamesDeanDesigns
@JamesDeanDesigns 13 күн бұрын
There is a little. The axis essentially twists a bit closer to the centre because the weight is pulling it forward. Its like it needs a stiffener
@LeddingtonGuitars
@LeddingtonGuitars 13 күн бұрын
@@JamesDeanDesigns Thats what i suspected.... any ideas on how to compensate? A stiffener?
@JamesDeanDesigns
@JamesDeanDesigns 13 күн бұрын
I'm currently thinking 2 things. Either add a third rail above it, would need 2 brackets building for the ends (this is essentially how they did it on the Onefinity). Or trying to fit a linear rail to the back of the aluminium guard
@LeddingtonGuitars
@LeddingtonGuitars 12 күн бұрын
@@JamesDeanDesigns A third rail above would also need a linear bearing and bracket attaching it to the router carriage right? I don't think the aluminium guard is stiff enough to attach a linear rail to, it would need swapping out for something beefier. I've been doing some tests over the last few days... there is definitely mechanical sag in the x axis. x axis cuts deviate by about 1-1.5mm in the middle and return to 0 at the end. y axis cuts are dead straight. It is also seemingly more pronounced when under load, i.e. the router is on and cutting material (even with very shallow plunge passes of 0.3mm). And even more pronounced when doing diagonal cuts, I guess because the carriage is spending more time in the middle of the rails. This is unacceptable tbh and i will write to Genmitsu. Has no one else noticed this at all?
