Very nice work as usual Dave. It was "therapy" for me to watch you doing this. I had a pretty rough week last week. We laid our oldest son to rest this past Friday. Gone way too young and suddenly at 41 years of age. God has a plan for us all. I'm just trying to get back into a "normal" routine and catch up on videos. I can't wait to see your tractor operational once again.

Thanks for sharing. I have a L3400 and I am getting ready to drop the drive line. My "O" rings are bad on the shaft that comes out of the rear housing that the push pull rod from the 2x4 attaches to. Tried of finding a puddle under the machine. Any tricks on how to separate the driveshaft housing out of the rear housing. I see how you used channel locks to light tap it back into place. Thanks again.

Mr . Dave ! Thanks for the info! I have a leaking rubber boot on mine where the two outer pipes mate together. I found that it was leaking oil . My question is , does the front end supply the oil that bathes the pipe that the draft shaft lives in or does the oil come from the rear end?
@daveknowshow
@daveknowshow Жыл бұрын
I cant say for all models. on this model there is no oil bath. if its leaking out that rubber seal then you have a bad seal either at the front drive axle or at the rear out put shaft below the tranny. my guess is yours is the same as mine. check the parts break down on the messicks website

Did you ever have a oil leak from that shat cover? I’m 58 hrs into my 3902 and it has a leak that looks like it is coming from that area. I’m stumped! It only happens after a turn and only leaks for about 20 ft and stops! It is centerline on my garage floor when I pull it in too.

Hi Dave. Thank you for featuring the driveshaft installation. In my mind i was concerned about the splines on the driveshaft on my L3800. When you took the driveshaft off was there any wear or rust on the splines? When you did the reinstallation did you apply any grease to the splines? Thank you for sharing.
@daveknowshow
@daveknowshow 3 жыл бұрын
yes there was grease on both ends and I did apply more when putting it back together. no wear to worry about you could see where the shaft rides on the bearing surface inside the shield. other than that polished look there were no signs of wear. the axle end gets grease when you grease the axle swivel joint I showed in the video beginning.

Grease fitting for front axle pivot point. Check front axle fluid could be low. Really hard to say from where I’m sitting. I’d need to be with the machine. I’m in chesterfield Virginia USA if you just happen to live near me I’d be happy to drive over and give it a listen.

It looks like you should have completely removed the roll pin from the transmission end and reinserted it from the right side of the machine to secure the prop shaft cover tube. The right side looked like it is relatively open compared to the access from the left side of the machine where you had (unnecessary) difficulty.

Hey Dave...I have a L4701...the other day there was a big "pop" while scraping the driveway...the front 2 wheels WILL NOT move when in gear....any ideas what might have happened? Any advice/wisdom you can give is appreciated!
@daveknowshow
@daveknowshow 3 жыл бұрын
oh no! that does not sound good. I assume you mean when the front wheel assist is engaged the front wheels are locked up? if so its likely a tranny issue. hopefully a simple fix and not to costly. I 'd be interested to know what you found out. I know running in four wheel drive on hard surfaces has caused the drive lines to lock up in the past. generally its the front axle that locks up where the gear from the drive shaft meshes with the gears to the front axle. I would maybe pull the drive shaft and then see how it acts. try to isolate the issue to the front axle or the transmission. then you will at least know what direction to look from there. keep me posted. praying its simple to fix and not costly. I love that 4701.
