In this Building A House From Start to Finish Episode we finish the underside to our front porch with tongue and groove carsiding and the rough electrical, plumbing, and HVAC are installed. We are officially $8K over budget so that means we have to everything possibly can to save on costs on this new house build. It started off as a simple home design but it's definitely become a little more intricate as time has gone on. And as first time home builders we're learning tons! Today we're finishing the underside to our front porch with 8ft long tongue and groove carsiding. We also install our own fireplace while the remaining roughs go in. Join us each week as build our own house from scratch! We cannot wait to move in to this custom home.

Hi from Quebec. You guys are so beautiful and make a great couple. The fact you give all the costs makes the difference with all the other "build playlist". Keep up the good work, this is professional grade! Subscribed this morning and binge watching you house build playlist.

This is incredibly inspiring! My husband and I are finally able to start on our build after spending over a year looking for the right piece of property to build on and another year waiting for permits and getting the land cleared.....sheesh! Like you, we are going "all in" to finance our build. No mortgage! But that means we are constantly updating and revising our budget so I'm very curious to see how you are doing on your budget and what you are doing to offset the extra costs. Thankfully, my husband is the GC as construction is his trade and we've been able to save so much being able to use his expertise and heavy equipment. While he built his previous home 25 years ago, so much has changed since then. It's been a huge learning curve and being able to witness your build has been incredibly valuable. Thank you so much for sharing your journey.

Racheal, thanks for sharing your story sounds like we have tons in common! I thought our permit process was long, that’s frustrating but excited for you to move forward with the build! That’s amazing your husband is the GC. We’re way over budget and trying to offset it as much as possible. The plan moving forward is to do everything we can on our own but some things we’ll have to hire out. Prices of everything have just increased since Covid and we haven’t seen them come down yet. We may have to put furniture off for a little bit 😆 keep us posted on your build, we can share tips together!

Hi Scuba, that portion of our house is outside so we will not need any insulation, but we will be insulating the whole house in our next video. :)

Nice but please stop saying your building it your self. Your dad is the GC. You guys are doing odd jobs around the site. It looks great. 👍

Hi JB, we understand what you mean. A GC is simply a person or company responsible for overseeing a construction project. In our case it is a company and we are on site everyday ensuring the job is completed safely, on time, and according to specifications.Yes, Jerry is the "CEO" and our guide/leading source of expertise. We try to make this apparent in our videos and acknowledge we are constantly learning. We are the "GC's", but that by no way means we are the best at it...
