Installing Tractor Tire Chains The Easy Way

Жыл бұрынWhen I bought my chains, I tried to follow the manufacturer's instructions for installing them. I found out very quickly it was going to take two people, my size, to hoist that chain up on the wheel and manipulate it into position. Thank goodness for KZfaq! Here's the method I learned that I will continue to use forever.

We used to hang our chains on the barn wall to keep then from getting tangled. Getting prepped For the Bomb Cyclone here too. Stay safe and healthy. Merry Christmas to you, Wayne and Suzie.

Hanging the chains would a great idea but I don't know if I have the space anywhere to it. I just need to be careful when I'm putting them back in the bags. I hope you and Sue have a great Christmas. Nothing like getting ready for the snow!! We've been dealing with it here for a week now and our next storm is coming in as I write this !! Seems like we already have more snow now than we had all last year!! Hunker down and stay warm!! ❄️❄️

I saw what Wisconsin got. I'm just happy I had a good day to get the chains on before the weather turns sour here. This is what the Farmer's Almanac was predicting for this winter. Dang farmers! Stay warm, safe and kind up there!

Keep it simple, nice work around to get it done by yourself WP. When I saw the back blade coming down when you were in back, I thought you were going to get pinched...then I recalled your tractor has a handy feature to raise and lower the TPH from behind. Hopefully we won't get it too badly this storm, take care and hey to Suz the Q!

Hi Wayne! I can't use my old Craftsman tractor this winter, because I still have to replace the points and I have the snow blower attachment in pieces in my tent workshop. But next year when I'm getting her ready for the snow again, I'll use this technique on the chains for sure. Back when I was in the Air Force, the 25 ton tow vehicle chains took 2 guys to lift and hold while a 3rd ran the vehicle to get them over the tire. I sure wish I'd have known about this method back then! Have a good Christmas, hugs to you and Suzie! Peace

Nice job. So far I’ve been lucky and not needed chains on my Kubota, but my driveway isn’t as long or as steep as yours. Stay warm and safe.

When I put on my tractor chains, I hook the inside (towards the tractor body) and then the outside and have had better luck with then not slackening before retightening.

I had the chains last year and it was a great improvement. I'm just happy that today was a nice weather day because I would not want to put the chains on in freezing temps with snow on the ground.

Yeah, I've seen the forecast. Suzie is gonna have a tough time getting to and from work unless I can keep the driveway passable. We'll see.

I use this method. It's nice not to have to lift these heavy babies. I drive forward a bit more then you do. I can stand straight up to do my connections. I also pass the rope down a few links (not the very end link) so it can stay tied as I make my connections. Again, so I don't have to do any lifting of the drooping untied chain
