It's coming along nicely. It was always a good feeling when accomplishing even the smallest steps. That makes the big ones (the most daunting ones) feel even better. I had to weld in my pans without gas. Yes, I had to use full electric and flux core. It was horrible. I didn't know what I was doing. I couldn't get the plugs to look like a pancake for anything. I made it work though. I ended up having my then 15 year old son stand on them and lightly bounce which proved the welding worked. I hated it though. Now I have gas and it has made a world of difference. It's almost like having a new welder. I too enjoyed opening/installing the packages of the new parts. Some the parts I installed were upwards of 20 years old purchased in early 2000's. Not complaining but other things (kids, food, bills etc.) have taken priority for so many years. You don't know what it does for this ole boys heart to see your videos, to get to go to VW shows and to actually work on my own VW. Thank you for the positivity coming through.
@VWJawbreaker
@VWJawbreaker 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you sir, I’m pushing pretty hard between work, kids, life to make some headway quickly. I ran a stock and flux core welder for years before I jumped to gas. Gas seems easier and cleaner but there’s nothing wrong with flux core welding. I’m really glad the videos help motivate you and keep you pushing forward. You have no clue how much that means to me today, I really needed that. Thank you.

I would get rid of the jack points. I reinforced the pan perimeter channel beneath mine with some RHS tube, but I still don't use 'em as I use a trolley jack or scissor jack and use the torsion tubes as jacking points. Just my two cents.

Excellent point. There still there and I haven’t given another thought to removing them again honestly. Hopefully they won’t be in the way for something that I have planned for later down the road.

Good video again , do u just plug weld it as opposed to a line of welds? Have you got and know of a video that shows the new heaters channels in ?
@VWJawbreaker
@VWJawbreaker 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Yes, just plug weld. No need to stitch weld the entire thing as it needs some room to flex here and there. There’s a play list of videos on this build, heater channel and other vids are in the play list.

Quick question about that hook. It looked like there was a bit of metal still on the hook. Did you chisel that off or leave it on? I went ahead and chiseled it off of mine, as I thought it was part of the old floorboards. I'm wondering if the height my hooks (low) will be an issue. Thanks again for your videos!

You seemed to be over the Covid . A guy asked Me why I was still wearing a mask , I told him " I don't want to catch Covid AGAIN ! If I would not got it to begin with I would had my new big valve heads now. I will get them by this summer. What I want to know is , Do b.v. heads run hotter than stock or is it about the same . I have a 71 bus .
@VWJawbreaker
@VWJawbreaker 2 жыл бұрын
Believe it or not I still have my days but for the most part I’m back into full swing. Big valve heads won’t make the bus run hotter, that’s all in your oiling system, air system, proper fitting tins, timing, carb fueling, etc. keep your compression low, follow the cam recommendations.

So you went ahead and fully welded without putting the body back down, or did you take a bunch of measurements and reference points first? I'm doing pans and heater channels so im all freaked out nothing will line up properly.
