This was a customers motor. I did have a similar motor in the past that I had to replace the impeller housing and it had to be positioned just right otherwise it would wallow out the housing and couldn’t pump water. The rough idle sounds like you need to clean the carbs!

That’s why we make these videos!!! The tach will have posts for three wires, usually labeled on the gauge near the posts as: “I” or “+” for ignition or key on power. For Yamaha the solid yellow wire from the engine harness will be attached here. “G” or “-“ for ground. A solid black wire will be attached here. “S” for the tach signal. The solid green wire will be attached here. If you want to power the backlight of the gauge(s) you can run a jumper wire from the key on power post to the post connected to the light bulb. The ground for the light is already tied to the ground post. Lastly, consult a chart for the gauge to figure out the correct pole setting for your gauge and motor. It’s a small turn dial on the back of most aftermarket gauges that must be set. Search my channel, there are a few videos about gauges!

Happy to post for help! That switch is the choke. Newer style boxes might have a “push key” choke where you can push the key in while turning it to choke. That switch must be held while cranking to choke on this style.

@@foolio9112yes, it’s a momentary toggle so it must be held to keep choke on. Then choke is off when switch is released.

Even before the motor has been started? The horn is to alert you of the alarms...depending on the motor it could be temperature or low/no oil (2 stroke oil injected)....or oil pressure issues (4 stroke). Sometimes a bad sending unit in the oil tank or reservoir can trip that alarm and give you the audible horn at the control box.

So I have the 10 pin harness going into the remote, the steering cables as well as another harness that has 5 wires, 2 black, 1 yellow, 1 green, and 1 pink. Any ideas on this?

With the gauges and the harness for those I have 2 black (ground I assume) yellow (key on power I assume) green for the tach, but what is the pink one for and does it affect the key on alarm like the pink one in the 10 pin harness?

Are you installing a new control box for that motor? I'm wondering if you have the incorrect control box for your motor. Yamaha had some push to open throttle motors and some pull to open throttle motors.

Typically a gauge harness. Green, yellow, black and one more?

What color are the wires? I believe they’re for a gauge harness, and I can confirm if I know the colors.

The colors are 2 black, 1 yellow, 1 green and 1 pink

Your plug in at the motor for the ignition should be the same I believe (10 pin). You need to make sure you know if the motor and the box are compatible in terms of pushing or pulling to advance the throttle. That can be different on some Yamahas!

All of the wires and cables are fixed lengths for these types of controls and cannot be cut. The wires and cables would have to be replaced with a new one.

A quick Google search for “Yamaha 3300 style shift and throttle cable” should give you tons of options. They’re sold in 1 ft increments…always better to have them a little long than short!

I'm seeing it called a "Remote Control Bracket" and there are two separate parts and part numbers listed (labeled 1 and 2) for those parts. Check out www.vanssports.com and follow their links to find your exact engine. The parts diagram for "bottom cowling" should show the parts and numbers for your outboard. You can even order from them. Great small marina here in Grand Rapids, MI with knowledgeable staff and great inventory!
