✨ Get my fave stuff here: goo.gl/2uV5L1 ✨
- INSTANT POT RICE & BEANS -
Ingredients:
- 1 cup brown rice
- 1 cup black beans
- enough water to cover the rice and beans by about 3/4 of an inch
- 1/4 onion, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tsp. cumin
- 1/2 tsp. chili powder
- 2 tbsp. nutritional yeast
- 1/2 - 1 tsp. sea salt
- 1/4 tsp. black pepper
- Optional add ins: your favorite salsa or hot sauce
Directions:
- Put the rice and beans into the Instant Pot and cover with at least a half inch of water.
- Add in the rest of the ingredients and stir well.
- Set your Instant Pot for 25 minutes on the manual setting (make sure the valve is turned to sealing and the pressure is on high).
- Once the 25 minutes is up, wait until the timer counts up to 10 minutes and use a towel to turn the valve from sealing to venting. Be careful - that shit is hot!
- Let the pressure release for another minute or so, open your Instant Pot, give the rice and beans a good stir, and boom - perfect rice and beans for all your burrito bowl needs. Enjoy!
NOTE: Cooking time may vary depending on your location, the age and size of your beans and rice, how they've been stored, etc. So keep that in mind! Play around with this recipe until it's just right for you! ❤️

It turned out really great!!! I used 2 cups of organic brown rice and 2 cups dry black beans, rinsed. Then I chopped up a red onion, added some garlic, chopped up a green pepper, 1/2 teas. Cumin, 1/2 teas. Smoked paprika, some black pepper, then poured a quart of low sodium veggie broth over everything. I added some filtered water to make it about an inch over the mixture like you said. Set the Instant pot for 25 minutes and let her do her thing. It came out fantastic!!! Thanks so much for showing this video.

Don't know how I lived without this for so long! I make dog food for 2 of our dogs kzfaq.infoUgkxG-7WiT7ocumjytOpHDFt632PL0pxXRAg (we have 5!) and it is so much quicker in this. Love having the inner pot stainless so I can use my immersion blender right in it without worrying about scratching. It makes potatoes great and fast! Still working on the vegetables, first time came out great, second time I did different ones and they were a little too mushy. Just need to adjust the time. I highly recommend this pot!!!

Anytime I'm standing there adding spices, more ingredients etc to the cooking liquid, I have the Instant Pot set to Saute. It takes a few less minutes for it to come up to pressure. (Sometimes those extra few minutes are a blessing!)

Thanks for the recipe - worked out great. I had a 16 bean mix I used instead of the black beans, so I upped the pressure cook time to 30 (the chick peas were still a little firm, but I'll live). Water was about an inch or a bit more above the beans. I also added minced ginger and ground coriander and cayenne. Such a good, cheap, and healthy staple to have around. I'll be using your base recipe and experimenting with other flavors in the coming weeks.

Thank you. I can't believe I have never tried Nutritional Yeast before . My husband has always added them to his foods, but I always thought it was too healthy, so I stayed away from it. I recently saw an article about healthier toppings for homemade popcorn, and nutritional yeast was one of them! Now I sprinkle them on almost all my foods. Thanks for doing the video. I would also like to recommend Java Rice, a filipino rice dish, which I love having by itself or with other dishes: olive oil, turmeric, annatto powder, shallots, fresh minced garlic, salt, a pinch or two cayenne powder, soy sauce or liquid aminos, maybe even your go to flavoring, Nutritional yeast, for extra flavor, usually not called for. There are different variations out there, but turmeric is the key ingredient in making this rice. I love your hair!!!

Thank you for the recipe. I used a cup of cranberry beans (because I had a lot), a cup of brown rice, cumin, basil, rosemary, celery seed, a quarter cup of dehydrated green onions and about 3.5 cups of water. Then I cooked for 23 minutes and it came out perfectly. I have three 2-cup containers to freeze and a couple of cups for dinner. Next time, I'll add fresh garlic, onions and perhaps Better Than Bouillon to the water.

I like this one! I"m new to cooking in general. I have an instant pot. I'm looking for more recipes for it. Do you have any other rice style dishes? How about quinoa? Also, I have the 'gas issue' when I eat beans. I have found that a three day hot soak works to break down the protein inside so that my insides can handle it. Does this recipe also negate the gassiness of beans?
@KristenPound
@KristenPound 5 жыл бұрын
You should definitely check out my other Instant Pot videos! I have a playlist on my channel. :) To reduce the gassiness that beans can induce, then you'll definitely want to soak them (adding a little bit of apple cider vinegar to the soaking water can also help) and then when you cook them, I suggest adding a small piece of kombu (a sea vegetable) to the cooking water. That will also help with that gassiness/bloating! Hope that helps! :)

You still have to take the dry beans and rice off the shelf and measure them out either way; why not just dump them in the instant pot the night before and let them soak? Anyway, I appreciated your putting this vid up.

sounds delicious! thanks so much for making these videos. Do you soak the beans overnight first? are they just dry and rinsed? sorry for all the questions, just learning...thanks!

Good job. I love my instant pot. Have u ever made oatmeal? I can't prevent my oatmeal from sticking in the instant pot....any suggestions? Thanks

I haven't made it myself yet, but I've seen some recipes that say to use the trivet that came with the instant pot, with a cup or two of water under it, and then an oven proof dish on top with the oatmeal in it. Or you can try spraying the edges with a bit of spray oil. I try to avoid oil if I can, so I probably won't try that option, but I'll do an IP oatmeal vid soon and see how it turns out! :)

Kristen Emily ok thanks. I've tried it with butter smeared on the bottom but it didn't work. So I'll try the trivet. Thanks much!

Hi!!! In the new year I'm going to start living more low waste and as a vegan beans and rice are a major part of my diet! I'm going to make the switch from canned beans to dried and I'm thinking an instant pot is going to be the best option for me. So can I cook all types of beans from dried in the instant pot? Like for example, can I cook dried chick peas and then use them to roast in the oven? I'm worried about making my usual recipes entirely in an instant pot because I'm scared stuff will overcook while the beans will be hard... any instant pot tips are super appreciated particularly with only dried beans. I see so many instant pot recipes but people still use canned beans!! Aaaa also I loved this video super helpful thank you!!

I still need to play around with mine more, but I LOVE my Instant Pot! It’s been such a money and time saver! You can cook any kind of bean in there for sure! It comes with a little manual for cook times so it makes it easy for you! ❤️

Thank you so much Kristen!! I was wondering if you could just cook raw beans and rice TOGETHER, and finally someone answered my question! One more question: have you ever thrown veggies in there with the rice and beans? Or would they get too mushy? I'm wondering if rice and beans cook too hard for veggies to hold up...I can't wait to check out your blog too!!

Oh yay!!! I'm so glad you liked the video! I haven't added veggies to mine before, but it might work! I have a feeling they'd get kinda mushy, but you never know! :)

One nice thing about doing it this way is that since the pressure cooker gets to such a high temperature, a good part of the phytates is neutralized, making digestion and assimilation easier.

Kristen Emily I cooked 15 bean and rice tonight and I went 30 minutes and they weren't done, the beans. I cooked 15 minutes more and was fine. But I don't think I'll do that next time because the rice seemed mush cooking 45 minutes.

Here's the recipe for ya! 👇 FYI: My recipes are always in the description of the video if you ever need to check 'em out. 😊 - INSTANT POT RICE & BEANS - Ingredients: - 1 cup brown rice - 1 cup black beans - enough water to cover the rice and beans by about 3/4 of an inch - 1/4 onion, sliced - 2 cloves garlic, minced - 2 tsp. cumin - 1/2 tsp. chili powder - 2 tbsp. nutritional yeast - 1/2 - 1 tsp. sea salt - 1/4 tsp. black pepper - Optional add ins: your favorite salsa or hot sauce Directions: - Put the rice and beans into the Instant Pot and cover with at least a half inch of water. ❤️
