Recipe:
3 -4 pound Chuck Roast
salt and pepper
1/2 tbsp oil
4 cups beef broth
3 garlic cloves divided
1 small onion, thinly sliced
1 tbsp soy sauce
8 hoagie buns
1 tbsp butter optional
16 slices provolone cheese
Directions:
Season meat on all sides with salt and pepper.
Turn Pressure Cooker to Saute and let heat to hot. Add oil and sear meat on all sides until golden (about 2-3 minutes per side).
Add beef broth, 2 garlic cloves, onion slice, and soy sauce to pressure cooker. Place lid on Instant Pot and turn to sealed.
Cook on high pressure for 60 minutes for extremely tender meat or 40 minutes for meat that can be sliced.
Once cooking time is finished, allow the pressure cooker to naturally release for 15-20 minutes before manually releasing pressure.
Remove meat and shred with 2 forks or thinly slice.
Heat oven to 400 degrees and brush hoagie rolls with melted butter or oil.
Toast rolls for 5 minutes or until golden and rub a garlic clove over inside of the roll.
Layer meat and cheese on rolls and return to oven until cheese melts--about 3 minutes.
Serve with a side of strained au jus (cooking liquid) on the side for dipping.

I love French dips! I like to use the onion rolls instead of a baguette but these look delicious!

I've only had the French Dips from a restaurant and they always have bell peppers included with the onions. You certainly have inspired me to try it myself! Thank you for sharing 🙂

Most restaurants local to me call those Philly cheesesteak sandwiches. But what really sets the two sandwiches apart is.. phillys use ribeye steak, and on a hoagie roll. French dips usually use roast beef on a French roll. Adding green peppers and onions to either sandwhich is amazing with gooey melted cheese😋😋

How do I make extra AuJus? I ALWAYS run out when eating French Dip because I let my bread get sloppy soaked. Thank you!

You can increase the broth by 2 cups with an additional teaspoon of soy sauce. I would then change the cooking time to 18 minutes per pound to account for the extra liquid.

lol The “French” part refers to the type of bread used, not the dish itself. :) It is traditionally made on French bread/baguettes. The dish itself is American in origin, and was created when a cook accidentally dropped a beef sandwich into beef pan drippings. The customer who ordered it asked to just be given that sandwich as-is instead of having it remade, and he loved it. :)

FYI: Searing meat doesn't "seal in" anything; that's a myth.

@@andrewfitts3654 I mean, Google is at your disposal. But the long and short of it is that the myoglobin and other juices can escape regardless of a sear.
