Thank you so much for this tutorial. I watched before I bought the 8 quart duo. It is so informative. It took me some months to decide to purchase the pressure cooker as I know how to cook and I have a very good set of saucepan.saucepans. A friend of mine also told me it is worth having a PC. I totally love that I can set and leave things to cook. I love that I can use a smaller pot inside to make 1 cup of rice or beans. Brown rice comes out perfectly. The lid for air frying is great and my 20 year old children use this regularly. As I now eat whole plant based meals this has been brilliant for meal prep.

You are a great teacher! I subscribed and I will be watching!! I ordered a 6 qt duo from Amazon yesterday. Because of the pandemic going on right now, I won’t get it until May 13th (about 2 weeks for shipping). But I guess that’s a good thing because it will give me a chance to read up on it and print out some recipes to try! I’m so excited. We are under a stay-at-home order because the virus is so contagious. I’m bored and this will be fun learning something new. Thank you! 😊

I burned some food in my instant pot, and I was trying to clean the scorched food off the stainless steel…I was wearing my arm out scrubbing 🧽… I had an insta inspiration 🤔🤓 put a quart of water 💦 and a tablespoon of laundry detergent pressure cooked on high for about 5 minutes natural release of pressure and by golly all that scorched food wiped and rinsed out no scrubbing 🧽 and behold shiny stainless steel clean 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I am from South Africa, and heard about this Instant Pot, and how amazing it is. I saw it had 83000 reviews on Amazon, and bought one for my daughter in New Hampshire. I couldn't order one for myself through Amazon because the delivery fee is very costly. BUT, I found it on my South African online supplier, Takealot, and ordered one for me which arrives this week. I don't want to leave it in the box, so am doing research prior to it's arrival. I so enjoyed your video on the pros and cons, and can't wait to get started with "beginner" recipes while working on getting "the hang of it". I hope to find your links and to follow your recipes.

great information! for the pros and cons. i have owned one for 1 month now and for the foods that can be cooked in the instant pot it works for me so much better, faster and easier. before i purchased one i researched and watched many youtube videos on cooking beans and stews and roasts ect ect. and the pros and cons like this one and i was sold on it. and after using it i love it! great video thanks! i would like to make one note on cleaning around the top edge where the sealing ring fits i just use my old basting brush it gets into that channel and move the debris to the back side wide area. you can use a 1 to 2 inch paint brush it works great for me and it is not a concern or problem anymore. and you can cut off some of the end bristles of the brush to make it stiffer for any stuck foods

Very helpful! I've been cooking and using stove top and electric pressure cookers for....30 yrs? but am new to IP. Just got a 6 qt Duo Crisp, and I'm in love. I live in Los Angeles, and during the hot months cooking is exceptionally unappealing, and pressure cooking and slow cooking are about the only cooking I want to do. I also bought a 6 qt Aura Pro, and am learning about sous vide, am in love with being able to saute then slow cook or roast, all in one pot- it's also a better shape for some slow cooking. Which brings me to my point: I would love to see you do an as in depth video on all the other features in the IP. You pretty much didn't mention slow cooking, air fry, sous vide, or steaming....these are all things that mean I can have more options, more possibilities for combining processes, (pressure cook then air fry to crisp, steam to re-heat leftovers...) so also less cleaning, less heat in my kitchen in the summer, many more possibilities for school/work nights....

I like your backsplash. And this was a great job explaining electric multi/pressure cooker’s. I purchased a “Crock Pot Express” just before Christmas, however I didn’t start using it until March because it seem to intimidating. I only purchased it to cook dried beans. And I only used it twice, the first time I didn’t soak the beans and the second time I got better results when I soaked them.

They probably couldn’t call it “ hands off pot”. The appliance that I use most. You described all the reasons I like it. Slow cooker is great for people who remember to take the roast out the night before to defrost . Putting things together in the morning so they will be ready in the afternoon.😏 I like to quickly make rice, hard oil eggs, crime brûlée, beans ( didn’t remember to soak). And that roast (that I forgot to take out) in about 70 minutes. 😁

I don’t have a Instant Pot. Watching your video helped me make up my mind to buy one for me plus it helped me to go with the 6 quart size instead of a smaller size . So I could have more options to do multi containers in it when I learn more how to use it .Instead of my first thought to go smaller because I just cook for me .Everything you said was just the things I wanted to know . I am not thinking about it as a fast cooker. I think of it more like they took a crock pot added the sauté feature inside it . Combined it with a pressure cooker to seal in juices . It will not take as long as a slow cooker/crock pot but it’s not a microwave . I loved the idea of recipes just for this plus groups I can join with for recipes . I don’t have to try to re-do other recipes & hope they turn out ! I am disabled I cook for myself . I like the idea of Instant pot so I can do my part of cooking with not a lot of standing at the stove time . Next step for me is picking out the Instant Pot at the right price . I do all my shopping on Amazon & they have so many Instant Pots . How do I pick the right one ? They all look the same to me ,lol. The price of them go from low to very high for the exact same one . Amazon customer review didn’t really help . Because,I’m not sure if the Instant Pot was poor quality or they didn’t like the Instant Pot . Others loved the Instant Pot . Pioneer Woman has her own Instant pot & I thought ok her’s might be good until I watched a You Tube box opening review . It is the same as the others except it has a nice flower design . I have been doing my research for this for 3 days now,lol. Everyone should watch your video before they buy or want to give as a gift a Instant Pot . Any help you can offer in my adventure to buy this I’d be grateful for . I have been looking at them for hours again ,lol. Now I need a nap ! Much thanks for your video

We (my dad, actually) still use the cast iron stovetop pressure cooker that my parents received as a wedding gift 46 years ago - mostly for mashed potatoes and cooking carrots for Zippy Carrots (with lots of cheese) casserole. 🙂 But my current roommate and I have limited time, energy, and interest in multi-step, have-to-keep-an-eye-on-it cooking, and the channel How to ADHD has featured the Instant Pot in a few videos now, so I'm considering getting one. Could mean the difference between having chicken or stew during my short unpaid lunch break, versus ice cream or cereal.

Thanks for this. I thought I wanted one. I guess it was just novel to me. Realistically my husband and I cook things that are better off on the stove top, and the rare occasion I cook a soup, stew, or chili, it’s really a labor of love and wouldn’t mind using the stove top or crockpot if I need to be more hands off... my husband will be pleased to know this phase has passed 😅

Used our IP this past Thanksgiving to cook the mashed potatoes for the family. Filled it with peeled and chopped Idahos, cooked it under pressure for 12 minutes, and wound up with the most tender, fluffiest mashed potatoes I have ever had. It's superb for cooking other veggies also, but there is a learning curve as to timing. It's very easy to overcook them when you are starting out with the IP. BTW, makes incredible corn on the cob, no muss, no fuss, and only a few minutes. The absolutey necessary addition is a good steamer basket with a silicon lifting handle for about $12.

Been using a stove top pressure cooker for over 40 years. The one I have now has seen better days and I will be replacing it in the next few weeks with the Instant Pot. What I don't like about my current pressure cooker is having to lift it from the cooker to the sink for a fast release. I had an accident a few years ago that left me with a very weak wrist so an Instant Pot will be much safer for me. I use my current pressure cooker several times a week so the Instant Pot will be well used.

Great Video, thinking about either a Ninja or Instapot, looking at the touch buttons, I have seen this style on various remote controls and they have broke after a year, the Ninja has a manual dial. I love to not only Pressure cook in my IPs, but it’s also great for slow cooking in these like we’ve been used to doing in Crockpots. I bought the glass lids for that, and they’re oven safe as are the liners. My IP lives on the counter. Clutter for some, but reasonable for those of us who are using it more than once a week, or have physical issues that could make it difficult for reaching high or low into cupboards to retrieve items. I’m interested in learning to can in the IP Max. Now then, SOME SAY THAT IT DOESN’T BRING IT TO TEMP FOR CANNING LONG ENOUGH, but my plan is to add additional time and try doing so with a testing tool inserted in one of the cans to check my work & food during the canning process. If it’s a negative I might be eating chili for a few days rather than stocking my pantry. So the only loss if any, is the canning lids and my time. Thanks for the video.

Add 1 -2 c water scrap up all the brown bits. add back to pot the pork chops. place potatoes cut in larger pieces in a steamer basket on top of pc . place carrots in large pieces in steamer basket on top of potatoes. . What a magnificent video presentation. Thank you for doing it. I've had an Instant Pot Duo for a few months and have used it at least 15-20 times (that doesn't sound like much, but I only cook dinner at home a couple times a week). I LOVE it. You're absolutely right: this device is NOT for every recipe and certainly NOT for every potential user and/or situation. I was so glad that you pointed out that no cooking technique works for every dish. Your presentation was wonderful and extremely informative. Obviously, you worked from notes but knocking out a half-hour video instruction that is so comprehensive with minimal editing is a masterful effort. Job well done and congratulations to all involved. The one "con" I wished you had mentioned (and this is coming from an Instant Pot fan!) is that Instant Pots typically can't cook with dairy products. Maybe there is an exception or two out there, but I haven't heard of them. At those cooking temperatures, dairy products separate and curdle so that might be a helpful piece of information for you to pass on to your followers. But that is not intended as criticism; you produced an outstanding video and deserve high praise for the outcome. Thank you for your efforts and you've made me curious to see what else you produced. Best wishes.

I make the best pork side ribs in the Instant Pot. I get the Pork ribs, cut them in half, place them on their side in the pot. But before I do that I season the ribs, never the same way twice. Then I add a cup of water and a Knorr chicken cube, cook for 25 Minute on High pressure, do an immediate pressure release. remove ribs to a sheet pan, put BBQ sauce on them, then under a broiler in the oven. MMM GOOD! The next recipe I want try is Beef Stew

What I'm picking up for all these videos is that you buy the smallest pressure cooker you can get away with, and for one or two people that's about a 2 Litre unit, also you buy the regular stovetop pressure cooker, not the electric type because it takes up less space. On all fronts it's better, more responsive and quicker?. apart from being smaller, you can add some oil and brown your meat in it; before adding liquids and vegetables then you go across to the pressure cooking function, and it works at a higher pressure and temperature? stove-top' seems to win on all fronts for at least some people?. Nothing's for everyone but for me, the stovetop is a no-contest winner.... Lots of good points made in this very helpful video .. Thank you ........

Cleaning tip: there are ways to clean it to look like new: Bar Keepers Friend souring powder for heavy residue. Stainless wool pads. Last longer if wet the pot, not the wool. Then let is dry in an airy place like soap dish grid. If light film, spray w white vinegar allow to soak for a minute or so. Then wipe clean and dry w cotton drying cloth. Terry cloth is especially good. When I switched to a better dish washer detergent, I rarely have to double clean. Sparkling clean should do away w the lingering odor from spices. For more cleaning tips, see book Talking Dirty w the Queen of Clean.

I loved your caveat about the marketing of the term "instant." I've used a stovetop pressure cooker (Fagor, love it) for years, so I am aware of the time you need to factor in to getting it up to pressure. Still, I caved to the idea of the timing feature AND keeping my stove free. I can see myself using both my stove top model and countertop model at the same time. The yogurt making feature and easy bone broth method also sold me on that model. Here's hoping it won't end up at the Goodwill in two years 😉 Thanks for the pros/cons reality check. Do I need it? Probably not. But will it be helpful? I can hope so. No telling how many gadgets have come and gone in my 30+ adult years of cooking...

Thanks! I haven’t noticed any loss of flavor. If anything it develops flavor more quickly, it’s really texture that the issue. Most everything is soupy or stew like unless you do a post-cooking browning under the broiler or an the stove. Make sense?
@penniewyatt9391

Actually it is usually more flavorful. The pressure forces the seasonings through the food, I’ve found that I need to reduce the salt vs oven or stovetop recipes. (Like pulled pork, I cut the salt in half.)

I wanted an instant pot for Christmas, but I got the Insignia pressure cooker because my boyfriend didn't know the difference and got the first thing that came up. I'm trying to decide if it's worth keeping or if I should have him exchange it for the IP. I see all the reviews, tips, and recipes mostly for IP. I was wondering if the same could be applied with the Insignia? Would love feedback from anyone reading this after Christmas 2020 and before January 2021. Lol

I have both an instant pot and a stove top pressure cooker, I no longer use the pressure cooker as I find the instant pot much easier to use. When the instant pot comes up to pressure , no further steam is emitted so you can cook most things with only a cup of water, so it must be more energy efficient than the stove top pressure cooker.

I have 2 IP( but I use only one) an older Lux and newer Ultra.I use the Ultra for the last 2 years. I love IP, but as you said, I use it for mainly soups and stews. I also did some pork ribs but, finished them in the oven. I also love boiling eggs in IP on low pressure. But as you said, it's not good for every meal. It has a steam function, but it takes longer and it's easier to control the cooking time in a microwave. I have a Lekue steamer, and it takes 2 min for broccoli, 3 min for baby carrots or sliced carrot, 7 min to steam boil potatoes, and 8-9 min for one medium sweet potato (skin pierced with a fork). That's all time needed, not like IP with its heating time. If you have a larger family then maybe the IP is better for mashed potatoes. But for 2 potatoes I use the MW.

I have been considering an Instant Pot for the past couple of months now. This is the first video I have watched that refers to it as an electric pressure cooker! I like in an "active" senior community, which is shorthand for very small kitchen. I currently own and use two different sized crock pots, but they take up valuable cupboard space. I don't have the counter space to leave this out all the time either. Therefore, I wanted to replace both of my crock pots with one, 6 quart Instant Pot. I had heard that it also is good for making cheaper cuts of meat more tender because of the pressure feature. I would love to know if this is indeed true. Any small appliance that could help cut grocery costs would be fantastic for fixed income people. So, if you read my comment, would you let me know whether that is actually true? Thank you for the pros and cons review. It was extremely helpful.

Carmen Nooner I live in senior housing too but am blessed with an eat in kitchen and a pantry/laundry! Yes...a great apartment find. I gave my daughter an instant pot for Christmas so I’m not an authority on it, but I was a caterer and can answer your question on tenderizing meat. In a nutshell, yes. It will. Also any recipe (especially for beef) that adds “alcohol beverage “ in it will make THE cheapest cut of meat fork tender. I do a recipe in the crockpot that has a can of beer in it. I hate beer but alcohol cooks off. The alcohol breaks down the cartridge in meat and the instant pot would be the same principle. That recipe has an impressive French name but forever will be called “Beer Beef” by my kids, but it’s the meal they always request.

Good video. I have an Instant Pot Duo in the 3qt size ( was a Christmas gift so I didn’t pick it) and it has sat in my cupboard, unused. We are a family of 4, including 2 teenage boys with healthy appetites, so I cannot cook a meal in the 3 qt Instant Pot. However, last night I decided to make shrimp curry on the stove but I made the rice in the Instant Pot. The recipe said it was 4 minutes for basmati rice, but, as you said in this video, it first took 10 minutes to reach pressure, and another 10 minutes for pressure release. So, my usual 15 minute stovetop basmati took 24 minutes. Not a timesaver. I’m still not a convert. If I had the 6 qt it might be worth it to cook meats in, but I already have a large slow cooker which cooks roasts, stews, chilies and sauces really well, so...I’m still not sure whether I should spend another $150 to get the larger IP and give up yet more cupboard or counter space...
@TheFamilyKitchenCoach
@TheFamilyKitchenCoach 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking! I do find that I use mine mostly for soups and stews and roasts, so from that perspective a bigger pot could help. To me the main benefits are: completely hands off time and cooking meat from frozen. If those sound compelling, maybe it's worth it! I just have the $79 one and it's worth it to me to give up the cupboard space but I know plenty of people who's decided it's not!

Just seen this. I use mine everyday. I even do my oatmeal in it. Even my main meals. Most o what I do I could do quiker on stove as you dont have the waiting to pressure then cook. The main reason I like the instant pot is 1 pot and best of all set start and walk away not having to stand over it

Hi there! I agree with Elizabeth about keeping it simple. That said, there are some really interesting pot in pot techniques you can search for. You can’t sauté frozen chicken but you could do pot in pot with frozen chicken and rice then just stir in the frozen veggies at the end (they’d overcook under pressure)

You missed a couple of important reasons why people might need an instant pot. If you don't have a stove or proper venting an instant pot is a safe way to cook needing only electrical. Also people who don't have space to store alot of pots and pans, this pan doesn't require storing additional accessories. It can also replace a microwave for reheating food.

It's like a little cooking robot. Makes things do much easier for me in the kitchen to have one thing in the Robot basically on autopilot so I can concentrate on things that need more minute to minute attention like direct flame or pan work. It really shines at prepping basic ingredient components like hard boiled eggs, squash, potatoes. Plus it's insanely energy efficient. I'm about to get my second one, either another 6, or a 10. I haven't decided which one yet.

It works well. Put in a bowl or plate of your food on a trivet inside the pot, covered in aluminum foil, put 1/2 cup h20 in the bottom of the cooker, put lid on and cook at manual pressure at like 0 to 3 minutes setting. Let it sit another minute or five after it beeps then quick release the pressure and take the lid off...bam.. Your food is hot. You can just lay the Aluminum foil on top, it's just too keep condensed water from dripping onto the food from the lid.

I would like to ask a question. I live in a small town and the grocery store does not have thick pork chops. If I put several thin pork chops in the Instant pot will the pork chops that are covered up cook the same? I guess this same question applies to any type of meat; round steak, cut up chicken etc.

Instant Pot gives a pretty even cook, but I would worry that thin cuts like those may cook too fast. It wouldn't take much time at all to cook them, even in a pan, so you'll have to play around with the timing a bit!
