This scene has always been a very visual depiction of my mental reaction to the people and the world around me. Very few people, to my mind have a sense of self that's not derived from everything around them. They define themselves by their job, by their possessions and what other people think. That's how it seems to me anyway.

I don’t define myself. It helps keep me honest. I’ve always believed that if you want to know who someone is, the last person you should ask is them.

I would advise watching rather than asking. People tend to have avatars That they want people to see. I tend to believe that the real person shows up when they don’t realize anyone’s paying attention to them.

I'm reminded of a Calvin and Hobbes strip where Calvin is taunting a flower, boasting that he holds it's fate in his hands and if he chooses not to water it, it will whither and die. Then it rains.

So many people afraid that they aren’t a main character. Just as you interact with the world, the world will interact with you. Most of the time we don’t get to choose. That’s why it’s so important to realize when you do get to choose.

All is vanity... you'll find out in the end... all things you do in this world... all of your motivations, beliefs and acts are solely and basically all in vain... try to discover the most beautiful lasting experiences in your memory that weren't in vain... they were of the true love, compassion and engagement you felt inside and acted upon... they are very rare... but these are the things that count but are not allowed in this system of things... one always finds out in the end... when it's always too late... when vanity (and its illusion(s)) no longer serves any purpose...

… here in this film is also used the expression "takers". That's what we in Spanish call "trepas" or "climbers". The human riffraff that will climb on anything or anyone to get ahead themselves.

elligue it was adapted from the book Ishmael, where the author uses the term ‘Takers’ and ‘Leavers’ to describe agricultural vs. and hunter gatherers.

I’ve witnessed the frailty of life many times and see a person, usually the best of people, be well full of life one minute, and the next not. And not only life or death, but any aspect of life, people would do well to remember that is not constant but can change in the most radical ways in a blink of an eye as you said. The next second of life is not guaranteed.
