Might want to shoot in a area that has not been shot before. I don’t think it will matter. But you know some will say the bull’s-eye has been shot out more and allows the 3 blade to penetrate more.

I've taken 2 foam broadhead targets & stacked them back to back. I got the same results Jeff got. 2 targets thick u get a more uniform medium & I got the same results. Wound channel & edge retention is a real thing. Higher grade tool stool which is harder to get a sharp edge on is like the universe. The trade off is when u get it sharp that it is also harder to get dull.

Gald your back. I hope someone buys your bow design so it can still be brought to market. On the subject, I had zero blood from a 2 blade last year. Not exaggerating, it wasn't a lung, but a liver shot. Had snow on the ground, so was able to follow tracks of the deer with ease. She ran 60 yards, laid down and expired. I was unable to find a spot of red on the white carpet of snow. I went with Iron Will Wides this year with bleeders....I will see how they do.

Jeff, glad your back! One thing come to thought, the 3 blade was shot in the most shot up area of the target. As the arrows get farther away from center there is less penetration. Like to see the test with all the arrows shot in a new part of the target. I still think it will be between the 3 blade and the 2 blade single bevel. Again glad your back!!

I recently bought some stingers and noticed the bulk of the ferrule immediately. It tapers too quickly. I doubt it would cause much issue on deer but I’m sure it decreases penetration. I think it’s to help make their broad heads so tough. Overall, still a great broadhead but I agree the ferrule is decreasing penetration.

The thick ferrule on the 150 magnus always bothered me but I still use them because i can't get a Zwickey as sharp. I wonder how a slimmer two blade like an Eskimo would have faired up in the test given it's much flatter profile? I avoid 3 blades due to my 41lb limitation. If I was up around 45lb's I would have been shooting a 3 blades all this time. Jeff, can you speak on 2 blades vs 3 blade on bows @40lbs? I'd be very interested in your opinion of that.

Good test.. but, since that target has been shot up in center it kind of seems the one hitting center would pass thru further than others to the side of center.. A side by side ballistic gel blocks one for each arrow would give a more reliable or more accurate representation. Ive been using bear razor heads for almost 50 yrs with close to 100 success so had never given much thought to switching but now Im curious to maybe try a 3 blade..

Great video but I suggest you get a brand new flat target. The target you used has the center shot out and the arrows could have entered the area with previous holes. @yourmomma2995
@yourmomma2995 Жыл бұрын
i think the 3 blade head just created a bigger hole for the arrow to go through, less friction on the arrow shaft itself. if you had a much thicker target that the head would not exit the back, the results would be different and the 3 blade would penetrate less than the 2 blade due to the larger cutting diameter of the 3 blade head.

Great video and 3 bladed arrowheads are a very old design. The scythians used them and they look very alike to basic 3 bladed modern heads. They must have also realized the same thing, that 3 blades increase the hole size and blood loss

Yes sir I’ve actually done lots more testing and if the three blade is super sharp it’ll penetrate just as well if not better than a brand new Stinger however I’ve tested some other two blades that don’t have as much of a bulky ferrule and sharp as well penetrate even a little more so I believe that a truly sharp 3 blade like a VPA is hard to beat and it opens a larger wound channel for sure 👍🏻

I personally will never go back to a two blade head. I used zwickey and magnus for years.....a perfect shot was always a kill but I've had some seriously hard tracking jobs because a two blade slit allowed a glob of fat to clog the hole.....great shot and poured the blood out gutting then.....but the wensel woodsman. exactly what I've found. I get sick of the 2 blade, single bevel hype as if penetration is everything. however, more inches of sharp edges causes more damage to veins/arteries and leave far better blood trails. and the difference in penetration between 2 blade vs 3-4 blade is very minimal. I much prefer a larger amount of sharp blades over an inch more of penetration.
@ericd2734

This vpa head looks just like a wensel woodsman without vents. What would make this a better head than the woodsman? I've killed many deer with Snuffers and Woodsman Bradheads. Far superior to any two blade head I've ever used with an exception of the Simmons interceptors. The muzzy phantoms (no longer made) four blade heads killed deer quicker and had better blood trails than the previous mentioned three blade heads. I finally located some bleeder blades for my old bear green razorheads. I might give those a try this season.
@boxertechnical
@boxertechnical Жыл бұрын
The VPA heads are higher quality steel and machined rather than stamped/welded, so they have tighter tolerances, spin more consistently, and hold an edge better. The woodsmans are a great head, and the VPAs are really more of an incremental improvement rather than an earth shattering one. I believe the Wensels have some higher end models that would be more comparable to VPA, but I'm not positive. The razorheads with bleeders would be a great option, good luck this fall!
