Not to be a stick in the mud, but to what extent would a postmortem on a post-meltdown upper offer something of value and interest to the at-least semi-mechanically-inclined crowd this channel targets, versus just professional confirmation that, yup, that there gas tube definitely done up'n'melted?

I bought myself a BCA barrel, 5.56mm M4 profile, for about $40. I stuck that on a cheap Stag upper and BCG from their blemished bin and topped it off with a Del-Ton handguard and the cheapest gas block I could find from Brownells. It was my first upper build and I couldn't be happier. I use it for shooting steel cased stuff and similar cheap ammo as sort of a beater upper, in which it excels.

I have several BCA and PSA uppers. I can say I don't buy them for accuracy but shorter range truck or cache guns. Im not saying they are not accurate enough, just saying I see a lot of people talk bad about them not achieving 1 moa and laugh. A 299$ complete upper does not have to hit 1 moa to be worthwhile. I am very happy with my BCA and PSA uppers.
@Kattbirb
@Kattbirb 3 жыл бұрын
@@lifeinastockwrangler My build ended up at just over $260, including sights. The fact it doesn't reach 1 MoA really doesn't bother me in the least considering I built it for short range recreation and just to ensure I would have trigger time on my rifle in between classes, hunting or shooting for groups. In the end, it's a perfect platform to just buy up a truckload of steel cased stuff and not worry about wearing out good parts in another upper.

Ive always been taught if you can hit a rabbit ur good to go. Sub-Cottontail Accuracy lol. Obviously we all strive to be as accurate as possible but in a pinch if you can hit a rabbit u can hit anything lol. Out of curiosity though what is the accurizing issues with bca. Looking at .450 for michigan hunting reqs but if bear creek isnt made well ill gladly double their price for more quality.

I have to say, you have the best tool's? I really love the specialty tool's! I do use some of these tool's when I'm building or servicing my rifles. The fact that your so detailed or precise with your explanation and you are always so clearly understandable. When I was in the US ARMY, we were never educated on any of the workings of our M4's... that frustrated me all the time! When I got out I used my GI Bill fund's for welding, AutoCAD, and machine shop, but the machine shop class was cancelled due to not enough students, the college sold the tool's & machine's after that!!! So I bought a few small mill's & lathe's and I'm still teaching my self... P.S. "LOVE YOUR VIDEO'S KEEP'UM COMING" God, Country, Constitution!!!

New subscriber here And you've earned it! I'm really into the details. Good presentation as well 💯 Now me..... I have caught so much crap in the past from my range buddies for going through the measures I do to make sure each build is on Point....but most importantly SAFE! They laughed about checking headspace, checking gas port, checking bore for true, checking upper to extension alignment, said Lapping was unnecessary. Etc etc. Now here we are.... I lap their recievers and find barrel or bolt issues for them. 😂 It all started when they would buy or build these 1500 dollar rifles with $1000 dollar + optics, and I would bring my "budget builds" to the range and most times out perform these guys. NOTE : I am always using excellent quality stuff, but I buy smart. Cosmetic blems, clearance, bulk, new product, discontinued, etc..... or I may have a buddy who really wants a flashy SS fluted barrel, and wants to sell his "crappy" looking CHF, chrome lined barrel for $50 bucks 😂. I have around 500 bucks in my latest "on a whim build." It happens. Don't judge. Built with lying around parts I had already purchased, including a 6.8 BCG I've had in the bin for 4 or 5 years now. And an awesome deal on Ammo, a handguard and a never fired 6.8 ARP match barrel. I was expecting around 1.5-1 MOA tbh. It's sub MOA all day long. Very impressed. And this is a Short Barrel build. Love when I am surprised. 👍 So, long story short...... Don't rush your builds, go through each step. At minimum you will have peace of mind. I see FTF and FTE along with ruined parts, and severe inaccuracies out of quality parts just as I do out of cheaper low quality parts. A bad apple, rushing, or a small inconsistency can be a.... or become a huge problem somewhere along the line. Sorry for the book y'all! Tactical stuff..... I'm a nerd for it. Y'all take care! God Bless! 🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🙏

I have 3 BCA 223 Wylde barrels. the first 2 shoot 5/8" grps off of a rest with hand loads. The 3rd is still in load development and is at 7/8" grps, I am expecting similar grp size with the third as with the first 2. It seems foolish to me to just throw money at name brands when you can get good results from 'budget' components, if you do your homework, and pay attention in the build.

I had a BCA .223 barrel I thought would be great for a build. sure enough I built it up. Did go/no go and a pass. I loaded up the bolt and cycled and it locked up. it locked so bad I had to walk away and start working on it later. BCA quality took about three weeks to get back to me and agreed to replace it. A few weeks go by and the new barrel arrives. Assembled. Gauges passed. Insert bolt. Cycle. Locked up. Called BCA they said it was me. I bought a Stoner barrel. Assembled. Gauges passed. Cycled. No issues. I have no idea where that BCA barrel is now ... left it with my ex after the divorce.

I prefer my FN barrels over all others, but I do have Ballistic Advantage, Rosco and a couple BCA’s. While my BCA’s may not look as nice as my others, they do shoot just as accurately. They go toe to toe in the accuracy department! So, unless your building your personal battle rifle, which I would only use FN, then BCA’s are just fine for range, hunting, training and the like. People get so stuck on the marketing hype of one name over another, when most often then not, it’s unwarranted.

Do you also deal with the AR10 platform, more specifically the Armalite brand? I built an Armalite AR10 over ten years ago while I lived in California, but it's been highly modified by myself after I moved to Tennessee. It's actually quite a Frankenstein build as the only true Armalite parts are the upper receiver, 24" inch stainless barrel, magazine catch, bolt catch, and the front and rear takedown pins. The lower is an Aero Precision, trigger is a drop in Timney AR10 variant, Magpul PRS buttstock, buffer tube, buffer and buffer spring, Radical Firearms nickel boron bcg, Midwest Industries 15" inch aluminum key mod handguard, LaRue pistol grip, and I believe a low profile VLTOR gas block. I was just inquiring if you had any experience with and worked on them as I'd like to have you take a look at it, maybe perform an autopsy/physical, and possibly get some things fixed that are beyond my capabilities and skill set. Thanks in advance.

Do you really need to lenghten the throat on that barrle if its probably just going to be a range toy?

Can you please do a video about the effect of steel bullets on rifle bores? Luckygunner did a good write up about shooting steel and barrel wear vs brass. A detailed video would be awesome.

We stopped trying to fix the throats on these in our shop, and being so tight they aren't functional isn't unusual. The melanite/salt nitride coating just destroys the cutters. The rifling looked pretty awful BTW. BCA, the puppy mill of AR barrels.

I bought a stainless 16 inch .223 Wylde upper. The first shot ripped the rime off of the case and the case was stuck in the barrel. I tried putting a heavier buffer in it and the same thing happened.

@richardlindquist5936 0 seconds ago I think these are 4140 steel. I’ve built a couple on the threaded version in 5.56 and they are great for a budget build.

All the BCA barrels I've handled have had very short throats. I've shot 5.56 and 223 out of all of them with no issues except for FTE from rough/tight chambers. 200 rounds or a hone and they function fine. That issue though, is why I don't use them in my personal builds.

I don’t believe in “rifle shaming” anyone, buy what you can afford. That being said, generally speaking, you get what you pay for. Thanks for the video, Chad!

If all you can afford is BCA, don’t waste your money, buy something else.

Wish you could put a link to your tools or at least list the make/model. That pin gage set is righteous.

I would install this barrel and shoot it as is. I don't think it's going to blow up or anything. It headspaces and I think that one part will eventually wear in. I've installed two barrels and they're both over $300 so I doubt they have these problems. I do have a cheapo for a future build and I'm getting a headspace gauge for that one.

I have had 7 BCA barrels over the last 5 years. First 2 shot very well. 10 shot groups just over 1”. Got a couple 6.5 Grendel barrels based on this experience. They shot worse than 10 MOA. One other 556 barrel shot terrible but cleaning up the terrible crown helped that. Haven’t mounted the other 2 but they look good with the bore scope. Won’t buy any more. Spend more on quality and shoot with more satisfaction.

I have a 6.5 grendel from them, no where near 10moa, more like 2 for me but it came extremely overgassed, so overgassed the extractor broke after 100rds, had to buy an adjustable gas block and new extractor and so far so good

I have a 6.5 20" from them and it's under 1" groups at 100 yards. Another higher end from Grendel Hunter and it's grouping at 1.5 to 1.7" at 100 yards. Just thinking that sime are better then others

I have a question? Is there a difference between 308 military ammo and market ammunition as far as dimensions? a friend gave me a ton of 308 mil spec and I wasn’t sure if there would be a problem shooting it in my rifle.. thanks for your time

i've been watching alot of your videos. I find it informative and relaxing. I sure would like to learn all the proper techniques when assembling a full AR. I know assembling can be a slippery slope on Utube. Maybe you should post on Full 30. Thanks and keep the info coming.

I think he has like an hour long video where he assembles 3 lowers from 3 different parts kits and trigger mfgs. MrGunsNGear used to be an armorer or something, his assembly and maintenance videos are very good and no nonsense.
