The great thing about Band Maid is that they have a lot of variation in their music, unlike most other bands. Pop, punk, rock, metal, speed, sludge. Band Maid doesn't play a genre, they are a genre.

They have about 5 instrumentals and 110-120 (lost the count!) "normal" songs, with vocals, and not a bad one. Their instrumentals are always very impressive aren't they?

Not only are they the best hard rock band of the 21st century, their rhythm section is one of the best of all time.

Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。I witnessed this song performed live flawlessly in B-M's pre-US concert in Tokyo and dropped my jaw 😲. I believe so did many of American audience at 12 venues. This song has been normally played in the middle of the setlist to give Saiki some break. Most of the audience at B-M's concerts had, of course, already known their skills and talents. They played this song, however, as opening at three festivals (Download Japan / Summer Sonic, Japan and Aftershock, USA) and in Guns N' Roses concert in Japan as support to the legendary band. Yeah! they showed off their skills and talents to the audience who knew nothing about the girls in maid outfit on the stage. I felt as if I heard them screaming "Hey guys! Listen to us and open your eyes wide! We are not the persons that you think ! Salute us!" 😄

"Domination -- Live" is a classic. They closed the show with it when I saw them in October. A hard rocker is "Rinne." For a jazzy feel, try "Manners." A great acoustic is "Sayanakidori (Nightingale)." Or anything live. That should do you for a while.

I heard them play this one Live late October and it sounded effin amazing.

Most of their catalogue has vocals, but they have 4 dedicated instrumental tracks that I can think of. They get used in the middle of shows so the lead singer can rest her voice... they tend to do about 20 songs in a set, so she needs a break occasionally. They've also released instrumental only versions of a bunch of their recent songs that are great as well, but you should focus on the vocal stuff for a bit. FYI the rhythm guitarist is the band founder and main lyricist, She is A Very Good Lyricist and a very smart lady. Akane, drums and MISA, bass were school mates at the Tokyo School of Music. A vocational school created to educate/train musicians for the Japanese music industry. Many of their instructors are formally from earlier bands. No like they have 4-5 instrumentals- tho they also have instrumental versions of about 10 or so other singing songs too. The vast majority of their songs feature their 2 lovely singers sweet vocals. Try warning or daydreaming MVs for some nice vocals- or freezer- or any song really lol- their singers are always great!

I recommend to watch "Domination (official live)" next. It's a must-watch if you want to see one of their best on-stage performance.

There's a song, Giovanni that has a version with vocals and an instrumental version, and both are excellent. The instrumental brings out Kanami's lead guitar more, and it's one of those songs that really makes your jaw drop at how talented she is.

Rhythm guitar is also second vocalist and their primary vocalist is amazing. Try "Daydreaming" from World Domination. Great vocal, great percussion, great bass. And a killer guitar solo. One of their few ballads.

Watching Kanami shred this close up on the recent tour was just astonishing. As others have said, they have a few instrumentals, which they have used mid-set to let Saiki have a break. I like the comparison to Polyphia. I was compiling my end-of-year "best of" lists, and for rock instrumentals, I have this piece by Band-maid, and pieces by Polyphia and Asterism, at the top of the list.

The first instrumental that really blew everybody away is called ONSET LIVE the official live video. That's one of the best rock instrumentals ever composed along with this one. There is a instrumental that very few people would do reactions to and it is mind blowing also look for "Without holding back"

They have 5-6 instrumentals and a few of their CD's are available in a bonus version that come with an additional CD, DVD, or blu-ray with 3 or 4 of the songs of the regular CD recorded as instrumentals. They also have their "Maid Waltzes" they use to open their shows. If you watch "Warning" it's the opener on the CD (and one of their on-line Okyu-Ji's) and starts with part of one of their "Waltzes". "Onset" live is certainly their most popular instrumental video.

There is sophistication with Kanami Tōno compositions, and it's always there. The first song she wrote and released 'Alone' * has it, and there's a music video on the Band-Maid KZfaq channel if you need proof. I'd guess if you could go back to when she was 14, it would have been there then too. I've heard Polyphia mentioned a few times with regards to this song, and I don't disagree. * actually wrote 'YOLO' earlier, but recorded and released later I subscribed, but only because Morgan Freeman asked me what I was doing with my life.

As others have said, they are actually mostly a vocal band, and the instrumentals, along with the couple of Miku (rhythm guitarist, second vocal, lyricist, in this clip with her signature Zemaitis) songs, are used to give Saiki some time to recover, as they tend to have long sets. They have released a number of instrumental versions of their songs (so you can appreciate what lies underneath the words), as well as writing a few instrumentals from scratch like From Now On. Some other instrumentals like this are Without Holding Back, and Onset. Speaking of different versions, some of their songs have been re-orchestrated for acoustic performances, so they have hard rock and acoustic versions, but both with vocals. Catharsis and Sayonakidori are examples -- the latter features their backup vocalist (and band founder) Miku Kobato.

No, they've only done 5 instrumentals. I'd like to hear more from them. Often the vocals are integrated with the instrumental parts so that it feels like an instrumental. Check out Black Hole and Blooming.

Years back their vocalist, Saiki, hurt her voice, she recovered just fine but they changed things after that. To prevent this from happening again they now have more down time between shows, Miku (2nd singer/2nd guitarist) has a few songs she sings, they have a few instrumental songs, they have "Omajinai-Time" which is kind of a comedic interaction with the audience. This is a very smart way of doing things.

They have 4 or 5 instrumentals dating back. They play them during live gigs for a vocal break, and they replace their tour instrumentals on occasion to have updated music to perform. At the start they originally did not make MV's or include instrumentals on their EP's. But, because the live video recording of their first Instrumental "Onset" became so popular they decided to start making MV's of their instrumentals as well. Actually, that's not quite accurate either... their first instrumental was before "Onset". But it became so popular with Saiki (lead singer) that she convinced Miku (rhythm guitar/backing vocals) to add words to it so she could sing it. So, their first instrumental became the song called "Play". Thats when Kamani (lead guitar) wrote "Onset" to take over as their instrumental for the live shows.

Out of their, about, 130 song catalogue, there are 4 official instrumentals I can think of. The rest all with their beautiful and powerful singer Saiki 🙂 And if you want to see more instrumental greatness, watch the band ASTERISM, songs "Dawn" or "Church". They are out of this world 👍🏻

the problem with their straight music videos over the live stuff is that japan criminally over engineers vocalists in MVs. They layer so many effects over the vocalists that you can barely hear their actual voice most of the time. ONSET is their other real big boy instrumental. it's intense.
