Integrated Rice and Fish Farming | RICE FISH FARMING

What is the integrated fish culture in paddy fields? It is nothing but growing fish in rice (paddy) fields by using the same area without impacting rice quality and yield. Integrated fish farming provides the option for getting extra income along with the main crop (rice). Though this system has proven profitable, it has its own advantages and disadvantages. Rice and fish farming is widely practiced in Asian countries when compared to western counties.

Add shrimp and seaweed in the water for extra benefits to the economy, soli health, dietary needs, ands benefits when it’s wet. Have a pond that has the flow of water that circulates into the pond for clam and mussels production, to lean and filter the water. This will have better water quality too. The ditches should be dug .3 meters to 1 meters down farther so the there is more of a chance of have more fish in the water ways-please put the seaweed can grow there too for the fish to hide among and eat the seaweed. Assuming the particular species of fish that is farmed actually eats the seaweed. Blue mackerel another name is Norway mackerel fish mackerel is a nice size fish, one Norway blue mackerel can feed one person. It is unknown to me if they eat Seaweed or if they will work in your ecosystem properly. I wanted to mention Norway’s mackerel. Never kill the clams and mussels until they are giant size-my guess is atleast 14 lbs and 14 years old. Commercially farmed mussels and clams grow to do your about six years to seven years depending on the weight. Seaweed should go in that same pond too. Make a deep pond of 14 feet or 4 meter deep. Bio-char will also help the your ecosystem further too. Place it at the beginning of the flow of water into the rice paddies water way and also the exit of the rice paddies water way.

In South India,a mosquito eating fish GAMBUSIA AFFICINIS is extensively cultivated in the paddy fields for biological control of the mosquitoes. These fish feed on the mosquito larvae and other aquatic pests present in the fields thus obviates the need for chemical usage to control the same besides providing sufficient protein supplement to the farmers.
